7th GTP F1 World Championship (F1 2010 edition) * SEASON FINISHED :'''( *F1 2010-2016

Just a heads up guys, won't be making it this weekend sadly. I'm pretty gutted that its Suzuka I'm missing as I love it, its by far one of the greatest race tracks in the world. I'd actually say it is the best race track still in active use today at the top-level. I love each and every corner on it and I could race on it every day..in fact I did just that on GT5 Prologue racing online!

Too bad Ardius, see you week after next!

I prefer these ideas of removing the worst finishes, etc instead of penalising drivers for missing races. But even still, I don't see the point - generally this won't change anything as far as championship tables are concerned.

Effectively, this would make the championship not start til the third race as the first two would be your worst. I'm not against doing that as I'm sure most people will miss a race or two. I just don't know what that would do to the positions. I'll try to do a what if with this current season just for interest sake.

I guess I wouldn't mind rotating tracks and limiting the number...but inevitably someone will always like a certain track. Perhaps make a seperate championship just for running "classics"? But I don't think this series should change to that. I think the only track that has universal dislike is Singapore and perhaps Catalunya - though there are still people who like those tracks (I don't mind them though Catalunya has forever been a weak track for me). I think we'd have difficulty agreeing on which tracks to run.

If a second championship was run, I'd prefer doing a two or three race night 20% or less on the same circuit as the 50% championship, but using your previously mentioned grid placements. This does a couple of things, gives us more practice at starts and more race practice for the upcoming championship race on the same circuit.

Hi guys,

after reading the race reports its a great pity that i couldn't attend last weekend.
Now I'm really motivated for suzuka and the upcoming circuits in general.
So hopefully I can tickle the upcoming world champion a little bit ;-)

See you on circuit

Just out of interest what was the theory behind keeping the pit lane on manual, bearing in mind the limiter bug kind of made that a redundant feature? Are you guys just trying to slow the pit stops down and manually making sure the car is under the speed limit?

Bug or no bug, we just want it to be as realistic as possible, with a couple of exceptions (e.g auto gears or racing line are available to those relatively new to the game). BTW the Lotus is yours (car performance is equal) and you'll partner DarkPSI at Benetton 👍

EDIT, oh and what's your PSN?

Tis true, but I am now playing GT5 with the paddle shifters and am pretty much beyond where I was with the automatic. It's amazing how much less braking space you need. Getting more comfortable with manual shift every time I go out.

I've tried manual in F1 2010 a few times, but am not quite there yet. I will be for F1 2011 though!

I switched to manual for the first race I took part in back with my control pad and haven't looked back since. I find it so much easier as it gives you more control over the car I feel. Esspecially when the rear wheels are off on a mad one haha

I'm going to give it another try, the issue I found was how fast I had to be for the first three gears, found it hard to be consistent with the timing. Also remembering which gear I'm in, lol. Might be better after the time spent with GT5.

If it helps with the rear wheels, all for it 👍 Hate it when they do that :sly:

Yea I was the same you'll soon pick it up though. Trying to memorise each gear for every corner seems to be a daunting task but I was surprised at how quickly you figure it out and remember it.

I find it helps in the rain too as you can short shift if you get into some trouble with those crazy rear wheels haha

Just as a warning though, short shifting does not stop a burn out of the rear tyres, and it often results in spinning - you can't just short shift and expect to put the power down and get away with it. It does help in the wet though, definitely.

About manual gears, it is amazing how instinctive it becomes. Even across all the 7 gears, you just get used to it - like how if you were to tell a novice to pick up a guitar and play something, all the individual hand movements would be too much for them at first, but with practice it becomes second nature, and you don't even think about it even though what you're doing is actually very technical. That's exactly how manual gears became for me. BTW Ali your pace has improved hugely since you started, so it's definitely working for you.

Okay, thanks, looking forward to using the lotus, it's one of the better cockpit cars. i think in 2011 they have remembered to include mirrors on all the cars this time!

PSN is Paulzx

Yea Shaggy your absolutely right. Since I've become used to manual gears I can''t play any driving game without using manual, it just becomes second nature as you said.

Thanks man that means a lot, I feel I have improved loads but the last few races I've really let myself down, hopefully tomorrow I'll be alright. (Except once again I'll be hungover haha)

Thanks man that means a lot

Gutted that I had to miss out on Suzuka! One of my favourite F1 tracks without a doubt :(

Looking forward to Sau Paulo however, should be fun with my G27, that's if it doesn't get damaged on the plane

Congrats on your G27 Tom, that was an amazing deal you got - great idea to get it in the states so much cheaper. You'll be back next week won't ya? That means you can make Korea I hope.

EDIT:

Well, not the best preparation for the race for me today, embarrassingly passing out at the gym this afternoon!

Got a bit over worked by an inexperienced personal trainer, but i'm feeling much better now. Thank god F1 2010 doesn't simulate real g-forces or i'd be screwed.

Guys I'm really srry but something last minute has come up with my family and its meant I'm not going to make it tonight, again I'm srry for any disruption I might have caused.

Well not as hungover as I thought I'd be which is good but Im not at all quick around this track so I'll just try and keep out of trouble in tonights race guys and and if I finish the race without going off the track too many times I'll be happy with that.

See you out there

Race Report :

For me, that was the most fun race so far. Qualifying went as well as I had hoped, qualified 6th with a time close to my pb. But started 5th as Paul had a 5 position penalty. Shaggy, Dark and Baumi were in a different league, well done.

Right from the get go I felt like I was racing. I had good battles with Ali, Paul, PJ and Nev Nev. The longest one was with Paul, awesome close quarters driving for most of the race. We were back and forth a couple of times, it was a complete blast. It might have been closer at the end had I not made so many unforced errors, but that's the way it goes!

My apologies to Dark for messing him up as he was passing me. I messed up turn 8 and braked way too hard going into 9, pretty sure I surprised you there, sorry man.

I hope Paul and Nev Nev will be back next week, it was good having a few more people on the grid 👍

A couple of bizarre things happened to me during the race, not sure if it happened to any of you.

1. On lap 4 going into turn one, the car started hopping up and down and was uncontrollable. It happened again later in the race too.

2. During the latter part of the race, PJ had a moment, crossed the track and Paul and I went by him. A lap or so later, PJ was in front of us again, I assumed he'd had some real issues and we were lapping him. I think it was a huge lag issue, because from there, PJ was either not registering on my lap monitor or was showing in 6th. I was quite surprised when we got to the end and he was actually in fourth.

A bit of a mixed race for me

I was expecting to start last and just take my time and make no errors but races never seem to go as planned. I only managed one flying lap as comming out of the pits for my next attempt I spun off and lost my front wing. But it didn't bother me too much as I was happy that my only flying lap wasn't as bad as I thought it would have been.

Race time came and after the first 2 corners I somehow avoided all trouble and up to 4th. With no practice with full fuel load I was sure I'd go off in the following few turns. I took my time and came through without incident but then kcheeb was right on my tail and I turned in for the Degner Curve a millisecond too late which can be rather unforgiving if you clip the gravel.....which I did and the pack I was holding up flew past me. All that was left were me and Paul who I think had a bit of a slow start because after about 5 laps he was gone. I'd like to apologise to Paul for clipping him at the hairpin and spinning him out, When he caught up I then parked on the Casino triangle to let him past but he miss understood and let me past again. Our battle seemed to be getting pretty good and we started to catch up with kcheeb (I think it was kcheeb). Then I totally lost it 👎 for the next 10 laps or so I couldn't get into no rhythm whatsoever. Nearly every corner I'd go off the track a bit and every now and then I'd spin off. I couldn't make any consistent laps at all and was soon a minute and a half behind everyone. I had got slightly better once I had the primes but it still took me about another 5 laps with them to finally get any sort of rhythm going.

I think Nev Nev had a few dodgy laps or maybe had a damaged car because suddenly I'd caught back up with him and found him off the track, soon after he'd totalled his car which was a bit of a bummer as we probably would have had some battles.

Nevertheless I enjoyed the race and congrats to everyone because you all seemed to be driving great last night 👍

Nev Nev definitely underperformed last night - he's a previous winner of the GTP F1 championship back in the F1:CE days. He's switched only recently to a G27 wheel after using a pad with auto gears for ages, so he seems to be struggling but he's actually an extremely fast driver, I hope he shows it once he gets it sorted out.

What a mixed bag that was!

The low points: 5 grid position penalty for speeding in the pits - did i switch the limiter on too early or too late? how are you guys dealing with the limiter?

Followed someone off track briefly, slowed down to let them take position and got an illegal overtake penalty!

The highlights: brilliant racing with Ali and Kcheeb, boy did i know i had been in a race after that. Everyone seems to be quick, it's really difficult to just drop someone who's chasing.

Congrats to Shaggy for first place, although from what i saw it was never in much doubt. I don't think i had the right setup for suzuka, people were catching me through the bends too easily but then dropping off on the straights. I need to look into that a bit more.

I should be around for the next one too hopefully, plus i'll add you lot in case anyone's on during the weekday evenings

Congratulations to Shaggy on another win.

Can I ask the fastest guys on here how you find Expert difficulty in career mode say with car like McLaren? How much margin do you guys outqualify the fastest AI driver? How much do you win races by? I am doing the shortest race weekends at the moment, is there a huge difference between that and what you are doing in terms of speed. I find that the AI is quite quick especially in qualifying.

I'm certainly not one of the fastest here, but in GP Mode, not career, at most circuits I'm faster than the hardest AI by .5 to 2 seconds, depending on the circuit. There's a few circuits that I've not beat them, can't remember off the top of my head. But I'm usually in the top 4 on those.

As to races, depends on how many 'moments' I have :dunce: Again, depending on the circuit, I've been 30 seconds ahead, to barely beating them, to 30 seconds behind.

I use the same settings in GP Mode as this series.

I know you were talking career, not GP Mode, but I thought it'd give you some point of reference.

I thought you were going to race yesterday???

I probably practice on GP mode if I get to race against you guys as it is probably closer to online as the cars are most likely upgraded to the same level? My PSN is: saidur so if anyone wants to add me, I can maybe join you guys for a practice session if any of you are online at one point.

Thanks for the reference. I'm going to race in September if any spots are available. I did one race today in Melbourne, got a one-two trophy too which was good. Only got pole by 4 tenths and won the race by 15 seconds. This is on the short race weekend so I don't know how it will compare with what you guys are running. It was not as bad as I thought it would be to drive with no assists and the pit stops after practicing a bit. Just don't feel I can attack the track as much as before / with as much confidence though but it is OK. Do you guys keep rear downforce to 1 for race setup, that is what I had on mine? Same setup as qualifying.

The cars are set to equal performance for the race, which I believe is the Red Bull, someone correct me if I'm wrong.

No problem, that'd be good, another car on the grid 👍 I'm still trying for that one, seems when I do well, the teammate doesn't and if they do well, let's just say I have a sub-standard performance :sly:

Attacking is where I'm losing a lot of time, need to accelerate earlier, right Shaggy? It'll come with time and confidence.

I used to just use the Quick setups, and typically the fastest one. I've since learned that car setup can make a huge difference in times. I'm not doing this on my own, not enough experience with all the settings, I'm using some I found on another site, if they make me faster of course :)
