8-5 Not Fun

I must admit that I was only on silver before I added a notch of TC and hit gold on the first run. I feel it's kind of cheating but I'd had my fun of drifting around for a few hour previous and just wanted to finish.

i don't cheat and i don't wanna cheat
i just get frustrated when i hit a cone and get disqualified when i know i did not go off the track.
even if they move the cones back 12 inches.

Do you think that we will take you seriously with grammar like that? No is the answer.

Update:
Thanks to all you guys that gave me some tips. I finally got gold. I ran a 1:34.xx. I know I wasn't going to make to cut. I just wanted the cars and get gold in all the events. Its more of a personal victory for me. Thanks again guys.

I didn't read this entire thread, but I find that increasing the steering sensitivity helps on tight courses like Motegi and Eiger. After two weeks with a wheel I'm still a half second faster on average with a DS3 than a G27. I can transition a slide from left to right with a DS3 with no trouble, but not with the wheel, and spin/accident recovery is a nightmare when racing online. The two hairpins (3 and 5) are the trickiest for me.

I'm just fine with the cones even though I like to hook a wheel around a tight turn. But, invalidate the lap once and let me keep driving. ;) I just can't seem to break 1:35. Anyone care to share their G27 and settings with me?

Funny how I started this thread because I can't get good lap times, and would like some ideas. Now its about cones on the driving line and off road driving. My best lap time is 1:42:xx and I see others with 10 seconds better.
I've tried all assists off and various combos with assists. I'm using a ps3 controller.

Here are some tips. It is good when starting to keep TC on 5-7. This will help control the back end. Now, I got gold merely from getting good times in the first two turning sections.

You do not need to brake after the first turn of the second section. As people have said, throttle modulation. It is not all or nothing. Use the driving line at first, until you get gold. Get a feel for the braking points, get a good turn in. Follow the leader's ghost for a few laps to get an idea of how to do the turns. Then, follow your own ghost so you can find areas of improvement. Also, stick to auto in the beginning, it will help you to focus just on turning and throttle and braking.

A good way to get a handle on the car might be to leave the TCS at the default setting, run that until you can get faster, then slowly reduce the TCS until you don't need it anymore. That's what I did with the GT Academy 2010 TT when I was still using the controller and wasn't use to the new physics it had.

That's what I've been working on. I started with TCS=5, and I've been dialing it down from there. I got down to a 1:37.7xx at TCS=1, but I don't have the throttle control skills on the DS3 to pull off a decent lap at TCS=0 - I spend too much time trying to keep the arse end in line.

Pulsing the brakes and throttle (not at the same time though) will give you a bit more control with the car. My technique with the DS3 was to bring the throttle to 100% just briefly and then jab the throttle until consistent full throttle was possible. I used R2 for gas/L2 for brake so that might have made it easier to do that technique.

also recently I've noticed that pulsing the brakes instead of going 100% braking power slowed teh car down faster, which translates to being able to get through and out of the corner quicker.

No, it's not fun. I think that 370z is actively trying to (virtually) kill me. :scared: I'll get the gold, though. Less than a second to shave and lots of room for improvement.

Plenty of good advice here, as usual. Thanks for sharing, guys. 👍

Spent 30 mins on this to get Gold this morning. Another 2 crucial points are the right hand turn 6 after the long straight, slow down more than you think you have to, and concentrate on getting good exit speed. And also the same is for the second to last corner the tight left hander, slow it down more than you think, and then aim to get a better exit speed. The last hairpin I find going in a bit deeper, and changing the Apex out to the exit part of the corner, just past the cone, helps on your go lap as it helps increase exit speed slightly.

By just doing that on those 3 corners made the differance between 1.36.3xx and 1.35.3xx. On a DS3 using the sticks as throttle. Auto, with ABS @1, TCS @ 1.

That was on the outlap, never managed to get a good lap in on fully wamed up tires. I might be a person that prefers his digital cars to move a round a little bit.

I got a 1:34:2xx using Auto Trans and a DS3. After braking I immediately dap both the brake and accelerator together while turning the analog stick to get the car to turn in a bit more. Feather the throttle when exiting turns and of course try to be as smooth as possible with your inputs. I can't seem to get any faster with the Auto trans though.

DS3 Buttons Auto Trans.
R2 - Accelerator
L2 - Brake
Analog Stick - Movement.
ABS - 1
Everything else - Off
Controller Sensitivity - 6

Manual transmission, so far I'm at a 1:33:607. It seems I'm getting faster the more I'm on the track, so I'll keep at it to see how much I improve.

DS3 Buttons Manual Trans.
R2 - Accelerator
L2 - Brake
Triangle - Upshift
Circle - Downshift
Analog Stick - Movement
ABS - 1
Everything else - Off
Controller Sensitivity - 6

1:32:245 with DS3

-Manual
-No AIDS except ABS:3

Acceleration: R2 Brakes:L2
Up shift:R1 Down Shift:L1
E brake: X
Sensitivity:3

1:34.759, everything off, MT, modified DS2 with converter, circle for gas, triangle for brake, L1/R1 shift gear, sensitivity -2. Got the time with a few late trail braking + slide, smoother run would gain at least a second or so. I don't care much about the finals, just having fun :)

Finally golded it - 1:35.561. I'll take it. I loaded up the ghost from the slowest of the top 10 (the slowest ghost I could load, in other words), and just tried to see if I could keep him in view the whole time, and that helped push me over the top...

I finally got gold... not by much, but Gold anyways... only took an hour of whittling the time down from 1:38 or so...

Awesome. Yeah, it took me seemingly forever to get from 1:36.7. I whittled it down to 1:36.4xx. 1:36.3xx, 1:36.1xx, then just BAM! - 1:35.5xx - more than half a second, all at once.

And I credit loading the other guy's ghost. It didn't really change anything I was doing - I just had to do it FASTER, trying to keep up with someone running a 1:31.xxx!

No attack -- come on man. You are obviously good. Your time proves it. Now if you can post that time-- you can find a way to improve it just outside the cones. Faster time will shut every one else up

Same here, it was quite reassuring to see that I was at least doing some things right. I was already starting to think that I was a GT5 idiot when seeing that I was like 3 to 4 seconds adrift from the top guys :P
But as they say : practice makes perfect, as does loading up a ghost from someone faster and watching some replays from other people :D

FINALLY!!!! I hope that i might have locked myself in national finals for US with a 1:31.210 for 5th in US. I can now get off gta and go to bed lol. :dopey:

5th out of 32? Pretty good chance of being in the finals I think

Great job!

I wish equal parts good luck to all the finalists. May the best driver win, clean and fast.
