Only seems like the Americans have a problem with Fox Sports. Australia's is fantastic, a lot less of this 🤬 that the Americans here have to put up with, from the sounds of it.

After a three-month comedy of errors, I have FINALLY got a signal to my apartment, so I'm looking forward to this.

I'm not entirely sure if they are broadcasting the entire race, but they did do a fair bit of it last year, using the American transmission. Usually you can bounce between Eurosport and whatever of the 5 Fox Sports channels are broadcasting it.

And you guys still have SPEED.
Not anymore. That got replaced rather quietly with Fox Sports 4 & 5.

Are we allowed to ask about paid versions of the race stream? Im not condoning pirated streams. But Im not going to lie and say Ive not considered it. Fox sports broadcasting times leave only a few options.

I still can't find anything on the WEC website about an available Pay Per View stream. Is it yet another thing we have been swindled on? Or is it through a third party? I seriously will pay $10-$15 just to get proper coverage. I'd rather not resort to the 🤬 tier streams since I've never ever had to specifically for racing. UFC events on the other hand.....

Are you kidding me?! 5 different Fox Sports channels? I'm not even sure what to think of that! I can think of some positives, but also plenty of negatives out of a setup like that, going by how stupid things are handled on side of the planet with just 2 channels!

It's actually better because now more then 1 race can be shown live.

It's fantastic. But, if you want to get technical, there's actually 8 Fox Sports channels. However two of them are dedicated to Sports News or the AFL. Take two weekends ago as an example, you could watch F1, NASCAR & IndyCar all at once, or all in close proximity of each other, by simply changing the channel. Simply put; Fox Sports in Australia is the best in broadcasting races or any sport for that matter.

Can't recall if already posted, but;
Gaetan Paletou has earnt himself a shock call up to Le Mans with Greavs Motorsport

The only downside is that they did their deal with Channel 10 for the Grands Prix about a week before Melbourne, which gave fans less than a month to get FOXTEL. And since their distribution network is horrible, I think a lot of fans would be disheartened by it.

Only half on TV and surrounded by the corruption league womens cup and Nascar.
What a garbage 🤬ty TV schedule; starting the race on the channel 5,000 people have [thankfully my cable provider dropped FS2 from the sports package to the high tier (which I have)], then no coverage whatsoever for 7 hours, an hour drop in, then another 3 hours of no coverage, another 1 1/2 hour drop in, 3 hours of nothing, then they finaly decide to broadcast for 6 hours when no one is watching at 3 in the morning . Worst of all, they have to have the horrible Speed commentators instead of Eurosports.

ESPN or NBCSN should get the license...

Yeah, as I was saying, the only place I've seen any prices for official "PPV Streams" has been in the WEC/24HoLM Android app. Maybe they had piracy issues with browser-based streaming last year and this year want to do mobile apps only...?

Though I really don't want to even consider that option. I have a bad feeling the streaming quality and reliability will be terrible if I put it on my tablet. If that's what it comes down to, I'm going to be stuck with the on-boards and the leaderboards again this year. :(

(Though, hell, I've got family visiting next weekend, so I'm probably not going to see much of the race anyway. :) )

The enigma of Nissan's Le Mans contender

It may have been somewhat premature to read too much into the pre-Le Mans test day earlier this week, but there was clarity in the struggles endued by the Japanese LMP1 contingent.

Whilst Toyota were hot favourites coming into last year's race, this year they appear to be bit-part players as the TS040 Hybrid struggles to make the huge strides comparable with the Porsche and Audi entries.

However, at least Toyota is just about in the hunt… Nissan's much anticipated public debut of the GT-R LM NISMO, by contrast, seemed to prompt more questions than answers.

A series of minor – but time sapping - reliability issues meant that none of the three cars completed a lot of laps and many of those that they did complete were done in the wet, leaving it not only 20secs off the ultimate pace, but adrift of most of the LMP2 contenders. Nissan may have said it wasn't courting headlines, but it was always going to be keenly watched.

Ironically, however, Nissan did produce one rather striking headline, particularly set against the context of its lap times – the car is seriously quick in a straight line!

At a circuit where top speed is usually king, the Nissan was crossing the speed traps at a remarkable 336kph officially, though many believe it was exceeding 340kph at its peak. Granted, the car that set the time did it very early on and clearly was not optimised at all, but I have been told that a much higher top speed is expected in qualifying when a different aerodynamic configuration is to be used.

Exciting stuff… but then how does this translate to a slow lap time? In short, the Nissan can corner, just not as quickly as the other LMP1 cars, or it seems the nimble LMP2s.

Indeed in the Ford Chicane the cars were about the slowest things out there in the first session, slower in fact than most of the GTE Am field, but that was improved a lot in the second session. Overall the GT-R LM corners like a LMP2 it seems. If the team find a way to improve that cornering performance then the GT-R LM could be pretty potent.

One big problem with the GT-R LM is its hybrid system, built by SIlverstone based company Torotrak. The 2MJ twin flywheel hybrid system is not what was originally intended to go into the car. A bigger 8MJ system has been envisaged but there were too many issues with it to get it working correctly, so a smaller design was adopted. There are many rumours of the system being taken out of the cars for the test at Le Mans, but I have seen some of the data and the flywheels were definitely in operation on the data I saw (which was from one of the few dry laps run in the morning session).

The reliability issues the car has suffered come as no shock to me at all. I look at the space under the front of the car and it is just so full of complicated things. The engine, the turbos, the front crash box, coolers, there is barely any space for the suspension and I cannot even see the gearbox. This looks to me to be the worst car I have ever seen in terms of serviceability, so I feel very sorry for the mechanics. There are just pipes and wires running everywhere.

This complexity is certainly going to hurt the Nissan team in a 24 hour race, where making quick fixes is crucial, but I think it probably hurt them really badly in the test too - they spent many hours fixing tiny things, because the car is too difficult to work on.

One fix that was a surprise was to the rear view mirrors on the car, they are mounted in neat little pods just on the insides of the fenders, and while the drivers have not been very happy with them the car also has rear view cameras. However, halfway through the test session at Le Mans the officials forced Nissan to change the design of the mirrors on all three cars before they could go back out on the track. The cars had been at the track for a week I do not understand why the French decided to make this demand in the middle of the test. It was very strange. The mirrors were moved about 5cm outwards, but it still took time to move them all properly.

In the end the Nissan's completed very few laps overall, and set a best lap time over 20 seconds off the LMP1 pace, but with the weather and the reliability problems this is not very indicative of performance overall.

I think Ben Bowlby will make a lot of improvements for the 2016 version of the car but the race at Le Mans this year will prove very difficult I think.

As a Nissan employee, I am pulling for them 100%. I also know that they are not expecting to be competitive this year and that their goal with this program is to win in 2016. So I think everyone that's watching their every move right now are expecting too much.

My prediction for Nissan: One car will retire in the first three hours, one will retire sometime just after the sun rises, the third will finish four or five laps down from the winner.

4 or 5 laps down would feel like a victory for them. They were slower than GTE cars in some corners and I don't expect them to go much faster because it will burn their tyres after 4-5 laps. The front tyres need to handle nearly all braking, accelerating and cornering...I just can't imagine how that should work.

Just checked the europsort player to see when the coverage starts next weekend and they only have a few 24minute of lemans updates scattered about, are they not doing the full coverage this year?

We'll get full 24h coverage on Eurosport in free TV here in Germany with a few 24minutes shows every now and then. Don't see why it should be different in UK?

There's also a dedicated 24 hour stream on the Eurosport player. No add breaks at all. It's what I've watched for the last couple of years.

Well here's to hoping it's a schedule issue then as according to the eurosport player

http://www.eurosportplayer.co.uk/tvschedule.shtml

Next Saturday afternoon they are only showing tennis on both channels.
Are you sure you're not looking at today because my guide on Eurosport player only goes till Friday

I expect at least 2 Nissans to finish. Darren told me they're looking to cut the deficit by another 10 seconds or so in practice, which I think is doable. The car is ridiculously fast, even in this trim.

Having checked the actual TV guide, the Eurosport Player schedule is incorrect. Full live coverage as usual.

Get member access and select the Le Mans package below? I suppose once you pay for the access you have the streams? Or that is what i'm hoping on at least as i want to buy it this week.

My guess is the idea is to get the power transfer fully in-sync with the rear electric driven wheels, they seem very early in their Hybrid development though so my guess is they are still atleast another 6 months away from making the package work as intended in the slow speed stuff.
