I doubt anyone spends more time and money on an LMP1 program than Audi. Even Toyota.

Well that's what I heard, either way Audi dominance is not financial in nature, its an engineering and driver advantage, which they have made for themselves. Remember Audi where the underdog once too and they dominated.

11 safety car periods for 6hrs. Wow this is the most safety cars ever during a race. 6 was the next highest in 2009.

'maybe this frantic final hour won't be as frantic as we thought'

Mainly because half of it was ripped up by a damn safety car? :grumpy:

I think Simonsens passing shook the ACO so they haven't taken as many risks this race, hence more and extended safety cars.

6 hours of safety cars? This has got to be one of the most boring Le Mans ever, without even talking about what happened at the start of the race ):

Audi were never really an underdog. They simple continued their LMP program in 2000 when all of the competition left the sport. It was Toyota vs Mercedes vs BMW. When all of them left, Audi suddenly found themselves racing at Le Mans from 2000 onwards without any competition from another works team. If anything, Audi probably only has ever been an underdog for a podium position in 1999 with the R8R.
