Good stuff. Glad it's the #2 Audi on pole as that's been my favourite car for the last few years, McNish and Co. Well done to the Aston Martins too for their front row lockout in GTE Pro. It's going to be a great race.

Audi 1-2-3 :D, 3 cheers for Audi :sly:.
My favourite privateer team in LMP1 got last in its class :(.

Vote for who you're going to root for in LMP1:
Audi
RESHIRAM5

Toyota

Rebellion

Strakka

They'll be much closer on race pace, and Audi can do 10 lap stints while Toyota can do 12.

I can already predict Audi will do triple driver stints (are they allowed quadruple stints?) and quadruple stint the tires in an effort to minimize the time spent in the pits, as they've done in the past with the last R8s, R10 and R15.

If neither team suffers major drawbacks, it's going to be very, very close on sunday afternoon.

Didn't Lotterer do a quintuple stint last year in the morning, or was that the year before? I know four hours at a time is the limit for one driver. I think it'll be close (not quite 2011 close, but still), but you still can't bet against Audi for this one.

Hopefully the Toyota's are a lot closer to the Audi's come the race otherwise it's a easy victory for Audi.

Was the pole lap the one that Duval set very early into yesterday's session

Toyota because I always root for the underdog.

Strakka since they are the underdog too, plus relentless sponsors a Team in Isle of Man TT.

All Playstation sponsored cars, Michael Waltrip Racing, Patrick Dempsey Racing, and Team Corvette!!!

Most importantly I like to see Anthony Davidson keep his nose clean the whole race. He cause Corvette a Victory in 2011 when he ran them off the road on his so he said "chase of all chases '" and had his incident with the Ferrari in 2012.

At this point, everything that's happened since the start of the season is of very little revelance. Le Mans is so much harder on the cars, it's so different from every other circuit out there. Outright speed is one thing, reliability is another.

If I'm brutally honest, I don't expect Toyota to be able to win this, certainly not with Audi's experience, both from its drivers and engineers, but stranger things have happened (Mazda anyone?)

I'm very excited already! :D

If only my motorcycle training course wasn't this weekend. Oh well, at least I'll be able to watch a decent bit of the race still.

I prefer Audi because I like their cars and the Audi R18 looks better :D, I can't really appreciate Toyota because they didn't really wanted to compete in the 1st place.

I was reviewing the 2009 tapes last night and I'm deadlocked on which Audi was the best looking. Either the 2009 or the 2012. Ill try to find pics since I'm sitting here in front of the PC 👍

Here we go!

2010 Audi LMP1

2009 Audi LMP1

I think I'm going to pick the '09

I wouldn't go that far. Reliability is of course very very important, but speed is very important as well, especially these days as the cars are much more reliable than they used to be. You can't just trundle around at a slow speed anymore and hope the other cars in your class fall apart. One of the top teams in each class will win their class, the odds of a minnow winning their class is very small.

Qualifying has, for the most part, gone by the formbook. A few were faster than expected (Morand, Porsche), a few were slower than expected (Corvette, Pecom), but for the large part the teams that were fast earlier this season are fast here at La Sarthe.

Edit: Consider this: all 4 class winners at LM last year (#1, #44, #51, #50) also won at least 2 more rounds of the WEC in 2012 and all 4 also became world champions.

Can someone explain to me why the GTE-Pro Vette's are that down on the revs and off the pace? They were able to pull out a 3:55 last year in quali so...

I've been really busy and haven't been following it as close as I usually do so if someone could inform me.

One theory mentions the mandatory use of new Michelin tires. Since the Corvette's do not participate in the other races in the series, the other teams have acquired a little more experience with these and setup the cars accordingly.

It's sad to see the Corvette's and Viper's struggle keeping up with the Vantage's, 911's, and the 458. I had hoped for some closer lap times between all of them. But hey, it's Le Mans so anything can happen in the race!

What the hell are you talking about? Toyota didn't want to compete? Why even enter if thats the case? They had the intention of doing select rounds last year, but stepped up because Peugeot pulled out.

Take a look at the recent history, they ran an engine in a Dome S101 open top lmp1 as early as 2009. They were planning an lmp1 come back before they left F1. They had to wait for the hybrid rules to open up, which then had to be put back because the financial crisis, then the earthquake/tsunami in Japan which cut into the plans as well recently. That is like saying they entered for no reason. Toyota wants to win, just as much or more than any team.

Jeez dude, take a chill pill before you hop on the forums sometimes. We're all race fans here.

Anyway, Just finished watching this excellent episode of The Racer's Edge, Peter Windor's vodcast/show for F1 Racing Mag. They did a special show preview for Le Mans this year. Have Allan McNish on and Craig Scarborough. Really cool to get his take on Le Mans tech.

Also the cars don't actually meet GTE rules aswell so they have to carry penalties.

Well my journey has been underway for about 2 hours now. I already have a numb arse and I've already eaten most of the food we bought with us. Its going to be a long day.
