One theory mentions the mandatory use of new Michelin tires. Since the Corvette's do not participate in the other races in the series, the other teams have acquired a little more experience with these and setup the cars accordingly.

It's sad to see the Corvette's and Viper's struggle keeping up with the Vantage's, 911's, and the 458. I had hoped for some closer lap times between all of them. But hey, it's Le Mans so anything can happen in the race!

Thanks for that.

Did anyone see Jackie Ickx on eurosport yesterday? Still Mr. Le Mans to me, they just don't make'em like that anymore. My son (Kristensen fan) had trouble believing what I told him about Ickx ...

(Le Mans winner with the Gran Turismo Gulf GT40 :D , and all the way up to being winner with several Porsches, including the Rothmans 956. I also mentioned Ferrari F1 driver and multiple GP winner, vice-WDC in 1970)

... and went to check wikipedia. Jaw drops and tells me "wow, he also won a Paris-Dakar?"

I said "Yes, I forgot, that too  "

What rule does the Corvette violate?

Guess he ment the vipers. They got a 95liter tank, because of the massive V10 engine, the vettes have 90liters like the new porsche and aston (Ferrari 85liters afaik).

Quote from corvetteracing.com
"Oliver Gavin took advantage and improved the position and qualifying time for the No. 74 Compuware Corvette to 3:58.644. Antonio Garcia's 3:59.526 from Wednesday's session remained the best for the No. 73 Corvette. The pole time was a 3:54.635."

"The Corvette team is focusing on a race setup that will deliver the right combination of performance, handling, fuel economy and durability for this 24-hour race," said Jim Campbell, U.S. Vice President, Performance Vehicles and Motorsports. "Add to that efficient pit stops, staying out of trouble and a little bit of racing luck, we can position ourselves to be up front in the GTE Pro class in the final laps of the 24 Hours of Le Mans."

The Astons are very fast, but through that a bit fuel thirsty. We have to wait, till the end of the first race stints, to get a glimps how GTEpro looks.

I feel the same about Henri Pescarolo going from Driver to Owner. I do hope that one day he could return and complete the dream of winning as owner...but not likely at the moment. :(

25 minutes to the 2014 56th garage reveal. For those interested, you can follow the annoucement live on "nismo.tv", they'll start broadcasting in less than 10 minutes.

LOL, I'm very excited with this, I've always been a DW fan and it was sad to see what had become of the old car.

Edit - And the inevitable Ben Bowlby on stage!

Until Nissan say otherwise, I'm assuming that the inspiration behind this was Kazuki Nakajima rear-ending the DeltaWing last year. Because that's exactly what it looks like: somebody driving an LMP1 into a DeltaWing.

Could be too early for the real final design to be revealed, could this be just a concept?

This particular example looks like a Deltawing kit car. The rear looks quite rough, could look a lot different by the time it hits the road. Could be wrong though of course.

Definitely not a looker though. Glad to see at least the original designer of the DW working for Nissan now, guy's cool.

I wonder how that thing looks inside. haha, I imagine trying to go up to it to try to open the door and having it fall apart or be full of packing peanuts.

Opened a dedicated thread, like we had for the original DeltaWIng, so we can discuss the car there for the next 12 months 👍

Meanwhile Nismo TV now showing Lucas Ordoñez and Jann Mardenborough :gtpflag:

This will be the running joke for this car, great work.👍

Looks like a clay model with painted windows to me.

Jeez dude, take a chill pill before you hop on the forums sometimes. We're all race fans here.

 No. I don't take pills. I just replied to someone who clearly doesn't know what they're talking about. Wasn't even a big deal, so no need to turn it into one. :)

No. I don't take pills.

If it was anyone else saying this, I'd think it was mildly playful. But considering the post you're responding to and my history of reading the posts you make, it makes me wonder if you're being serious.

I just replied to someone who clearly doesn't know what they're talking about.

And this is why you need to take a chill pill. Your methods of education have, in my opinion, proven ineffective. Also, not every post requires a response. (Example: I choose not to respond to a great majority of things that you say).

Wasn't even a big deal, so no need to turn it into one.

Again, if it was anyone else, it wouldn't be. But it's you, which is why I'm guessing Wardez made the post in the first place. We don't need this to be a big deal, you're right. So just relax and have fun and let others have their fun too and it won't be. Don't dismiss his comment to excuse yourself to continue your passive-aggressive posting style.

And now, to ensure you and I both continue to have an enjoyable experience on GTPlanet, I will be hiding your posts. It's nothing personal, but I just don't care for the tone I pick up when I read your posts. To me, you come off as snide. I may be wrong, but that's just what I take from them, and it ruins the chance of you actually teaching me something, since you do seem to be reasonably well informed on the topic of racing cars.

Thats nice. Want a cookie for your time or something? Seriously don't get the grief. I'm not here to make friends. I am sharing what I know. If you or anyone else don't like how its said or typed thats a shame. I cant sugar coat words on a screen or convey their tone. Sorry.

What the hell are you talking about? Toyota didn't want to compete? Why even enter if thats the case? They had the intention of doing select rounds last year, but stepped up because Peugeot pulled out.

Take a look at the recent history, they ran an engine in a Dome S101 open top lmp1 as early as 2009. They were planning an lmp1 come back before they left F1. They had to wait for the hybrid rules to open up, which then had to be put back because the financial crisis, then the earthquake/tsunami in Japan which cut into the plans as well recently. That is like saying they entered for no reason. Toyota wants to win, just as much or more than any team.

Sources?

...and don't Privateer teams usually compete mainly for the fun of the sport?

Hopefully the Toyota's are a lot closer to the Audi's come the race otherwise it's a easy victory for Audi.

Was the pole lap the one that Duval set very early into yesterday's session

A part of Toyota's strategy is to pit less. I recall seeing something where they'll try to stay out for an average of one or two extra laps each stint compared to Audi.

Here's my math: I'm going to assume that both cars will average 3:30 laps in the race and that pit entry to pit exit will take, on average, 1:45.

There will be 412 laps completed. Audi will have to make 42 stops 412/10 equals 41.2) and Toyota will have to make 35 (412/35 equals 34.7). 7 stops times 1.75 minutes means Toyota will have a 12.25 minute advantage over Audi. This equates to (again, at 3:30 laps) three and a half laps. Audi will need to run laps of approximately 3:25 to make up this disadvantage. Again, this is assuming quite a bit, including that neither team will run into mechanical/accident/pitstop issues during the race

The flaw I see there is that Audi already has a 2-3sec per lap advantage over Toyota. The question is, can Toyota spending less time in the pits be enough to make up for that gap.

No I'm talking about the standard tech regs. Max engine size for GTE is 5500cc N/A and 4000cc turbo.

Also the Porsche is using a GT3 based engine on a Carrera 4S body shell which again isn't homogated therefore actually needs a waiver to run as both the car and the engine itself exist the 911 GT3 as this moment in time doesn't hence why it uses a C4S shell. Also gives it a wider rear track too.

And that's just for starters.

They already have three seconds. They need, according to my math, about five. Around this track, that's no more than hitting GTE traffic in the wrong spot.
