Where does that quote originate from?

It's a fair point, but at least Peugeot gave Audi a fair challenge in their first 2 attempts before winning it 3rd time around. Toyota just seem to have tamely rolled over both times. I know that's not true and they're trying hard...just seems Audi have it so much easier with Toyota as a rival than they did with Peugeot. Peugeot kept them honest most years.

With any luck next year's rule changes and return of manufacturers will shake things up a bit. Especially pleased that the ban on large engines will be revoked - just how Le Mans sportscar racing should be. Use whatever tech/engines you like, so long as it does this mpg and you can make the finish 👍

Anywho, imagine the noise from the open public roads. If I was leaving work, I'll just phone the misses "I'll be about… 24 hours" and I'll stand there just listening :r

It's weird...I don't dislike Audi for being reliable and the best car out there.

I'm starting to dislike Toyota for just plain not being good enough.

If you're gonna have 2 factory teams being so far ahead of everyone else, the least you can do is make those teams competitive. At least Peugeot gave Audi a good fight. Toyota are more like the Jeff Smith of Le Mans - cars far superior to everyone else bar one team and yet constantly average at best and not good enough to actually win outright.

(Might be harsh on Jeff Smith...)

I wonder if the difference being bigger than with Peugeot is because of different engine. Matching two diesel hybrids through regulations might be easier than one diesel and one petrol that have to have different rules governing them...
 
How so, they're in F1...that pretty much says it all. Also GTE is far more competitive and realistic to their road cars

Also what's the point in spending millions of dollars in R&D on a new LMP car at this stage when a) it'll get mauled by Audi and b) the rules are tweaked with every other year in the Prototype class?

Maybe give it a year or two after 2014 and see if the rules stabilise, then maybe give it a go. But they're doing well in F1 and showing off their high performance road cars in GTE and various GT championships around the world. You could easily accuse any of the GTE manufacturers of not being tough enough because theyre not in LMP, but to be honest it takes a lot to live with Audi at the moment. Kinda contradicts my last statement about Toyota being average...but hey :dunce:

Until the accidents last year, Toyota was giving one hell of a fight. They seemed to do the same this year, but I think the drivers kind of got out of the "zone" after the safety car had been on track for 50 minutes.

Once again how so? When they are already in the most difficult class currently, secondly a P1 outfit would cost tons of money that is already going to F1 which is far more competitive than P1 even if Ferrari joined. You're starting to sound as bad as ICEYOU on threads that aren't nascar related.

That's definitely a fair shout. It always seems to me that the ACO have favoured diesel engines all along, and even when they've said about giving parity they've always tended towards diesel.

Still remember how badly Aston Martin got screwed over by developing a petrol prototype and then it being suffocated to the point of being 5-10 seconds slower than the diesel Audis and Peugeots per lap 👎

F1 isn't as much of a challenge as the WEC. I mean, these cars go through more punishment than an F1 car could take for this amount of time.

No, it's their second. 2012 was their first year with the TS030.

There's only so much you can do in 2 years. Like I've said, Audi's the team that won in 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003 (The Speed 8 was a developed version of the EXP Speed 8, which was a developed version of the Audi R8C), 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2010, 2011, 2012.

You don't just turn up as a new team and beat that kind of team. Peugeot first had their concept ready in 2005, two years prior to their first participation. Toyota only first ran any laps with their car 6 months prior to the 2012 race.

I never expected Toyota to win in their first 2-3 years. But neither do I hope that Toyota's Le Mans project turns into the same project they had in F1 where they are throwing so much money at this project, and get nothing out of it. Up to a point where they again will drop out of it.
 
Porsche is coming back to LMP. Ferrari has plenty of money, lets not kid ourselves.

No one is kidding themselves but you, Ferrari don't have enough money to run a multi hundred million dollar F1 outfit and a Prototype LMP one at the same time. There is a reason Toyota left F1 and then made plans to do LMP, and it is due to money.
