Porsche is coming back to LMP. Ferrari has plenty of money, lets not kid ourselves.

Ferrari do have a fair amount of money, this is true. Ferrari could probably afford to R&D a new LMP, but they would still be unlikely to win for a few years, but still be at least somewhat competitive. I doubt Porsche will be the best team next year, but we'll just have to see.

VWAudiPorsche is terrified by Ferrari... Or they would have tried to stop the Schumacher domination, but they choose to race against privateers with a F1 like budget.

Top F1 Teams (RED BULL, Ferrari)>>>Lmp1 Top Dogs.

No bias at all.

Also, I hardly think VW is scared of Fiat (owners of the two companies), with the effort, VW could crush Ferrari in anything, be it F1 or Road cars. Sorry to say :)

F1 isn't as much of a challenge as the WEC. I mean, these cars go through more punishment than an F1 car could take for this amount of time.

Aston takes Porsche. ALLONS-Y!

How so? The season is far smaller through WEC, and at the end of the day they are still race trim engines, they are set for only a handful thousand of miles, because that is all the materials and duration will allow.

Dusk is on its way. I love this time of the evening where the sun (what we have of it) starts to set and eventually we settle down into darkness. Who will still be running as morning comes?

So excited. :D

Yeah, I aggree that WEC is much closer to actual road cars, but the competition and TV coverage is much bigger in F1 :)
Also, Grand Prix racing is more important for Ferrari ;)

No one is kidding themselves but you, Ferrari don't have enough money to run a multi hundred million dollar F1 outfit and a Prototype LMP one at the same time. There is a reason Toyota left F1 and then made plans to do LMP, and it is due to money.

Exactly. And Toyota are the third-largest manufacturer in the world, behind GM and Volkswagon Group (which includes Audi). So if they have to choose between F1 or LMP, then how on Earth could Ferrari manage it to any good success?

Also on point about the Toyota LMP - I do hope they stick it out, and don't do a Lotus in the ALMS - make a big noise about a factory program, leave a team to do all the work, then pull the plug when unsurprisingly their car doesn't do well (having had absolutely no factory support or development all year). 👎

Nope, turns out I get to stay. :)

#42 Nissan is in 4th place but that's bound to change as a bit stop is expected soon.

Toyota, Honda, BMW and Mercedes were also MUCH bigger then Ferrari and never beat them.

Money =\= Success

Toyota had a 500 million $ budget, the best facilities and still only competed in midfield.

Sorry to say, your VWs would get stomped by FERRARI.

The sound of that Toyota is just <3

Swap that for 'Aston Martin' and 'Corvette' and you have me. I actually stop whatever I'm doing and pause whenever those cars come onscreen...that sound <3

EDIT: Although having just seen the onboard, yeah the Toyota sounds very nice :)

Not enough for F1.

And don't even get started on Honda who had an even bigger budget for F1 and they were worse than Toyota

They are terrified of Audi.
BS.
If so even McLaren, Mercedes, Lotus, Honda, Lamborghini and every other brand of the world not partecipating LMP1 would be terrified.
The truth is most of these constructors are not interested in prototypes, not with these regulations, something could change next year though.
Furthermore Ferrari have GT cars for their client teams they are not like Aston and Porsche which are OFFICIAL teams.
And Ferrari don't make diesel engines. They should open up to turbo and aspired to have a fair competitions, but again, same story old, Le Mans organization just love money and Audi are keen to invest A LOT in this business.

VW would probably just buy Ferrari :-/

Toyota left F1 because they couldn't compete. Money isn't everything.

I'm keeping the focus on Le Mans. The more manufacturers there are in LMP, it would be better for the sport. At least Toyota is trying.

Yes, Porsche should race in F1.

They had the biggest budget, only rivaled by Honda. Much bigger then Ferraris, Mclarens and Renaults.

Ferrari had 300 million at best in the bridgestone era (2007-2010) most of it sponsoring money.

Hmmm... I thought it was more for the top teams.

Didn't Renault state that they were aiming to participate in LMP1 at some point? Their participation in LMP2 is just the start?

The Aston & Vette give me shivers. Just too good. For LMP's (should've stated that), the TS030 is by far and a way the best.

They did race in it and were an engine provider, they did okay but found it too be tough and with the rule changes they left. ACO just like FIA needs to do more with the regs if they want big manufactures to join.

Just started watching this year's 24 Hours of Le Mans. Heard about Simonsen's crash and his subsequent death. My condolences and hope the best of luck for everyone else still in the race.

Definitely. Hence why they've kept it in favour of diesels, and kept fiddling with the regulations - they know Audi have a massive budget who will keep sinking money into this. And really they're the only manufacturer who can to such an extent. Hopefully next year's tweak will open up the rules more and get more manufacturers on board. I just hope more variety comes in - this year it's a battle between two bulky, blocky, squared-off small-engined diesel/hybrid type cars. Where's the variety of engines, of shapes, of tech? That's the wonder of Le Mans for me.

For Corvette racing fans, the 74 is in fifth at the moment...

I noticed that...like another team in yellow today, they just won't die no matter how bad/down on luck they are :)

I thought 2015 or something would bring Renault to P1, I don't remember the race engineering article but they talked about a supposed plan. I think they would try and utilize their F1 V6 technology.

Thank you Bob Varsha, for giving a proper shout out to Simonsen's family.
