Hi, new here just looking for some settings for the '97 Civic Type R (EK) on the ring. I did a search and wasn't able to find anything (not for the CTR) so I hope this isn't a repost.

Thanks!

I'm giving you this setup assuming that your car is fully modded (NA). Also assuming you are a decent driver. My setups aren't really for comfy driving. They are made for all out fast lap times.:sly:

A good lap with this setup will give you a low 7 min lap. In the 7:10 or 7:15 range! If you need any help adapting this setup to your driving style, post!:)

Thanks a ton EG6, I'll go try it out right now. I hate to sound like a tard though but what is the tranny trick?

*Edit* And will this set work with just about any of the Civics as long as you go N/A?

It will work on almost all the civics (EG, EK, EP). Minor tweaks may have to made. Although minor tweaks will have to be made for your driving style as well. :)

The tranny trick is just a way of making your entire range of ratios closer together without sacrificing top speed. Since GT4 has two adjusters (the final and auto set) and they work against each other, not with each other. A certain procedure of adjustments can be made to make your car ratios short or long enough to go 300+mph!(car pending) That was a short explanation, and if you need more info search for tranny trick and be prepared to read. There is quite a bit of info about it here.👍

Tranny Trick
Step-by-step:
1. Return car ratios to default
2. Adjust final to highest number/lowest ratio
3. Adjust auto-set to lowest number/lowest ratio
4. Re-adjust final to desired top speed (normally between 4.0 and 4.7 for CTR)
My Trick(i'm sure other people do it too! )
5. Adjust 5th and 6th gear to highest number/lowest ratio
6. Adjust 1st and 2nd gear to lowest number/highest ratio
7. Adjust 4th gear directly in between 3rd and 5th (use graph)

My additional trick keeps the overall ratios even lower, which is essential for hondas, because it allows them to stay in vtec all the time.💡 The suspension would work with turbo hondas, but the bigger turbos are to much for the chassis, wheels, and tires to handle and it won't be any fun to drive. So I stick with N/A and sacrifice some time for enjoyment. You ain't living till 9K RPM!

Post if you need more help!👍

fully lowered suspension.. for bouncy, uneven Nurb? are you out of your mind? it'll bottom out and bounce all over the place, throwing sparks like old F-1 cars did..:odd: that might be good setup for flat track like Midfield, but for Nurb that is just useless.

I know it sounds bonkers but it will work and does work. It may not be a comfy ride, but I never claimed it to be. The setup does clock very fast lap times I promise you that. Thank you for your honest opinion.:)

(there is a thin line between fast and undrivable)

could you give some specs about your civic, like bhp and weight, tyres, and did you have NOS or not? I think I'll create my own setup, that way we can do a small comparison..

Sure that would be great!:) I'm not around my PS2 right now (at work), but the civic is just a EK CTR that is fully modded with NA tune up stage 3 and weight reduction stage 3. There is no downforce, no driving aids, no nitrous, no ballast. If I remember correctly the cars HP is around 300hp and weighs in at around 930kg. The tires were posted above, but the front were R3's and the backs were R2's. Sorry about not having actual specs!:nervous: Can get back to you later with them if needed.👍

it's ok. I have the same car, a 6.2 mile one, and the performance figures matches with those you mentioned. I'm off to Nurb now, and I'm pretty certain that this will be interesting little test.. :mischievous:

I have no idea how this setup could return 7'10-7'15 time. It's far too skittish. And grip (more like the lack of it) isn't there when I need it. This feels more like a drifter setup than a track setup. (Actually, I did pull few un-intentional drifts there as the rear did break loose..) I also tried the tranny trick, but it didn't help much. My own setup gave time of 7'36+, with few accidents and too long gears.

I'll try that setup again around the ring, but I'm 99% positive it has yeilded results in that time range before. That setup may suit my driving style and not suit yours. I am not sure. Did you try the setup without staggering the tire compounds? That might do the trick!:) I will try the car when I get off of work tonight and get back to you about the time I ran.

Were you using the DFP or DS2 when trying out the setup? In the past I have found that setups made on the DS2 are horrible when used with DFP. It is just a thought.:)

I use DFP. and I also just found few tricks to make my setup bit quicker around corners and straights. what about your time? and did you use DS2?

I use the DS2 still:yuck: , due to limited space in my residence. I know this only from that some of my friends have DFP and when I used their DFP some of my cars were very hard to drive fast.:ouch:

(P.S. still at work, I get off soon and will do a couple of laps ASAP. If I don't get around to it soon I'll post later or P.M. you my times:tup: )

allright. and I know that it's quite difficult to create good setup, or even drive, with DFP at first. I had to practically learn how to drive again.. it took two months, but now I'm good.

It really does bring a whole new perspective to GT4. It took me awile too, but now I can get the same laptimes with DFP as I do with DS2. (with completly different setups):)

indeed. the suspension setup for DFP is a lot more sophisticated thing to do, since you need to think how everything affects to other things, and since you can't go from lock to lock in a millisecond like you could do with DS2, you have to doa really well handling setup if you want to stay on track.. though, on cars like MX5/miata, you don't need setups, all you need is to drive and laugh.

Some partially relevant stuff re: the DFP vs DS2 debate:
I started on DS2 with buttons, then with paddles, then to DFP. While the former will givew your steering left lock to right lock almost immediately, the DFP allows you to adjust steering in increments of 5-10 degrees at least ten times per second, usually more, depending on the number of beers you've had. I could never do that on a DS2.
And her's why it's relevant...
The 'ring is a track that (at least for me) requires constant readjustment of steering. If your car gets a wheel or two in the air from a bump you have the option with DFP to take it (for example) from 5 degrees right to 10 left, and then readjust it slightly if you eff it up a bit. With a squirrely setup like the one posted by eg_6, I'd favour the more subtle approach.
[DISCLAIMER: I've not tuned a car since my son was born two years ago and even then was a rubbish tuner and driver; please don't take this as an educated opinion]
