A light-hearted look at GT4

Walk into your local Toyota dealership, and in addition to being able to buy a brand new Prius, you can also buy a vintage championship-winning Group C car. In addition, the economy has affected these car dealerships so badly that they are still selling cars from 2001 and earlier as new cars.

This just gave me an idea. I'm going to pop GT in the PS3, do a lap or two around the 'Ring, and see how many times I find "Call ???-???? for a good time".

 That's classic! But I bet PD edited those type of things out.

To compete in a certain Toyota championship, you go to Toyota to purchase this car called an Altezza. It turns out Toyota don't know what an Altezza is because no car exists in their showroom. They then tell you that you need to go to Lexus, pass a stringent test of passing those guys your money first to purchase something called an is before you can come back to Toyota and enter.

Try to race a Lexus in the Japanese Championship? Can't do it; your car is American. Try to race an Acura in the same? Oh, well THAT'S okay! This, despite the fact that both companies are just higher-quality versions of Toyotas and Hondas, with different brand-names to fool us here in America.

Options for saving or cancelling during a championship:

(1) You are currently racing in the Japan Championship

I proceed to attempt to enter MY garage...

(2) You cannot proceed any further since you're in the middle of the Japan Championship

presses OK

(3) Do you want to continue Race 1 of the Japan Championship?

Press "cancel"

(4) Would you like to withdraw from the Japan Championship?

...uh yea, that's why I just pressed CANCEL. Presses "OK"

(5) You have just withdrawn from the Japan Championship race event.

I KNOW!!! DO I GET TO STOP PRESSING BUTTONS NOW?

Certain legends like the Ford GT40, the Bentley Speed 8, and the Toyota GT One, one of the fastest car to race at Le Mans, always have 🤬 races in the game, the GT40 in particular. It can't seem to complete just 1 decent lap at least.

The Bentley and the the Toyota are often one of the slowest LMP at Le Mans at the hands of the Ai.

Due to unknown facts to mankind, you can mess with the suspension, modify the engine and even add ridiculous grayscale rear spoilers, but you can never, ever paint your car in the color you want, that's absolutely forbidden in GT land.

During a cold saturday night...

"Hey just finished the 100 miles again, now let's take a look a my brand new sexy red Alfa and....... 🤬 Nooooooo!!!! it's white again and it will be stuck forever in this color! :scared: Whyyyyy?? Why are you doing this to me, I just want a red one..... whyyyyyyyyy????? * attemps suicide *

Are you saying you can't race the Lexus in the Toyota showroom events or in the Japan championship Parnelli?

Another thing which I've learned after playing GT4 many years. Kazunori must have one heck of a camera collection!

No, can't race them in the Japanese Hall > Japanese Championship. Guess I was a bit unclear, which happens sometimes.

1) At Le Mans, it's almost impossible to drive a 1000+ hp car after 10 hours of racing. Certain corners like the Porsche Curve, and Indianapolis, one tap on the brakes, and if you hit a blade of grass, or bump, you'll definitely spear off the track.

2) As the chassis wear out at Le Mans, it's a common sight to see cars zig zagging on the Mulsanne, as it's impossible to drive in a straight line.

It's okay to change your oil or get a car wash if you're in-between races during a series, but want to peruse your garage or go car shopping? You'll need to drop out of the series.

There's only one color suit & helmet set in the world.

Stock Audi TT 1.8's can be raced in a 4-wheel drive challenge, even though they're not Quattros and have front-wheel drive.

Deloreans with an '80 or '81 production date are unavailable, but Deloreans with a 2004 production date can be won.

Apparently the folks running the 24 hour races at LeMans can allow 6 cars in, but never seem to always get 6 cars that are decently matched (a GT40 or a C5R isn't useful if its in the LMP class).

The AI's complete stupidity to instead of drive around a slow car, RAM into it at top speed.

A Citroen 2CV going faster than 50 mph? Just get a moron, a Shelby Cobra and a vintage race together and watch the 2CV cross into unknown places as it crosses the line for the first lap.

A Dodge Ram being able to outrace a Corvette.

Some cars (TVR 350) having insane grip when tuned right, others (V8 Vantage) feel like you're racing on ice.

No matter how many times you hit your opponent, 5 seconds is always a sufficient penalty.

The AI can somehow get better fuel mileage than your AI can, even if you use identical cars.

Somehow there is a race for a Camaro and a Corvette, but there's no exclusive race for Vipers.

All Group C race cars, regardless of how many of them you have, come in just one color that's exactly the same as the prior one you got (you know, there were 4 Silk Cut Jags in races of yesteryear and not all of them had the same number.

An F1 car never needs its oil changed or any bodywork replacement regardless of how long its been raced.

There's a feature in the game for parts that half of the cars couldn't do (Displacement Up) and I still don't know which ones can use it!

While Autumn Ring and its mini brother show up for GT4, Seattle's mini-circuit is still AWOL.

You can run a race for an hour over a track that has RR tracks, yet you never need to stop for any train coming.

A 6 mile oval is overkill.

Every one of my local car dealers will give me three sets of tyres for any car for free.
That's 12 tyres per car. And they've got them in stock, so I don't have to spend more than a day getting them. In fact, I could get tyres for all of my 718 cars (8568 tyres) within a single day, and all for free.

The Skyline GT-R (R32, R33 & R34) and the Honda Civic's (EG) are the only ones that can do it from memory.

about 10 cars can do it? Can any of these cars receive the treatment IRL or is it just really a gaming gimmick?

Also the ever common rant of why do rally cars not come with snow/dirt tires.

Why do some cars in this game (from games past) feel different? The Escudo is no longer fun for me and the LM Impreza from GT3, a near perfect car when tuned, feels watered down in this version.

Any motor can be increased in capacity. Some by boring the motor out, therefore enlarging the cylinders, others by stroking the motor which is putting a longer stroke crankshaft in. In this case, they are right as the Displacement kit that's on the GT-R is most likely to be the NISMO 2.8L stroker kit. The B16 Civic, although being taken out to 1800cc makes it a bit difficult to work out whether it's a B18 crank in there, but a whole B18 bottom end being swapped in is more common in the real world.

I see, I guess the reason why I asked is because so few cars use it (meaning that almost all the cars I drive don't use it).

In GT2, the Datsun 240Z-G and Mini Cooper could accept displacement increases. I think the '71 Skyline GT-R as well. But try and bore out a 426 c.i.d. Hemi V8? Not possible.

The Gt exclusive lm cars have been watered down to touring car spec. That's why the S2000 lost 250Hp(but can be restored to Gt3 spec by buying the top turbo) and the Impreza has the same downforce settings as the Wrc car.

Which still doesnt explain that ZZ2, though... couldn't that run with some of the Gt3 lm cars stock?:scared:

Here's another one: While racing, apparently there's no such thing as a yellow flag period. I guess that's because the track is perpetually the same every lap, making it more like a wind tunnel than actually being somewhere.

You have the ability to obtain a car made in the year 2022.

You can buy a car from years past NEW, but there's no used version of the same car. Also, even with all of the miles put on the engine, the car suffers no breakdown. (Try putting 300,000 mi. on your car and you'll probably have to replace everything in or around the vehicle).

TWICE!

The game likes the NIKE One '22 so much that its a prize car from both the Saleen S7 One-Make race and from the IB license (bronze). It must be a great car! I can't wait to race it somewhere!

Here's some stuff i found out:

A souped up Mercedes can beat Le mans racers

A car from 1886 can never go up hills

A tommy-kaira can do 383mph (so they say)

A stock Dodge Ram competes against small hatchbacks

A Diatshu Midget can do 80mph without exploding

A dodge viper is able to drive off-road (someone get an ambulance)

A photographer gets morphed into a car (B license, driving on dirt 1 i think)

There are about 10 million types of skylines, although no one really buys them

And finally, who left their blue and yellow S2000 doing 24 hours of Nurburgring? I don't think he's in the race.

I found that weird too. I guess it's just a placeholder so someone doesnt get 6th place.

If that's not the case, then it has no business there, considering it cant even beat the australian cars in the 4 hour race:ill:
