The game demo is here!
I just got my issue of OPM magazine and it has the Ace Combat 5 demo. This version is HARD! The last title was way too easy in comparison. You now have a couple pilots that you need to watch over along with your regular actions. It pays off though, so it's not just another escort mission. In fact, I never saw them get hurt while I played the game.
The extra pilots pay off because of what they can do for you, provided you know what you're doing. They can cover you, to make sure you don't get shot down, which can be helpful. They can attack front, which is very helpful when the mission first starts since the enemy is still directly in front of you at the start of each mission (I only played one mission). They can dispurse and attack any target. You can choose it they use their specialty weapon, or their regular missile and gun attack. But, if you call the wrong set of orders at the wrong time, you can pretty much kiss your ass good-bye. This game is impossible without them. You can select the jet they are going to use before each mission which is very useful. You need to use different jets, and not all the same one, or you're going to have trouble.
The control of the planes is different too. It's a lot less easier to dodge missiles. Before, if you heard a missile warning, you could fly for a brief second still, and shoot at whomever you were targeting. Not anymore. The planes move less like an arcade game, and more like the real thing. It was very frustrating at first, but you'll get use to it after playing for a while.
The Yellows are gone, and have been replaced what appears to be the Yukes. They fly just as well as the Yellows, but perhaps even better. They can fly very well with the F14s, which is a plane you can choose to use in the demo. But, the jet handles like a freight train, so it's best to use the F18.
The game looks beautiful, but you hardly notice it. You're way the hell to busy doing your mission to notice, but it does look better. The bullets now fly past over your head when someone is shooting at you from the rear. It looks awesome. Missile trails look better, and actually move like real missiles this time, instead of that perfect "computer generated" straight trail as before. The radar system is new, and I don't like it. It's more touch sensative and I hate it. When heavy into battle, you often don't push the button with the required easy touch that is needed. The radar shows the targets, Yukes and fighters pretty much as the same as before. To big change.
Well, that's about all I think of at the moment, because I want to get back playing it. If you have any particular question, feel free to ask them here. If you have or are getting the demo, let me know if you need help, because I know exactly what to use and do, and when and how to use it for an easy victory. But, don't think that I can't be shot down because of my experience. As I said before, this is a lot harder game, that requires you be on the ball at all times, or it's good-bye to you.
