Hi, nice cockpit Hajaz and Martinmaxx đź‘Ť
I'm building a cockpit now too. I'm thinking of making a pedal mod to make it feel more like real life. Something like this: http://home.comcast.net/~bbarnett49/DCP02080.JPG

btw, this one looks amazing http://forum.rscnet.org/showthread.php?t=157579

Thanks!

If you are after good pedals, maybe you should check these : http://www.frex.com/gp/ (click on pedal)

Don´t forget to post photos of your cockpit, once completed! Good luck!

wow, those pedals look really nice.
When i get some free time i might go for a complete redesign by the time gt4 releases.

btw martinmaxx, i dont know if you got my pm but i was wondering if you could hook me up with the right drivers to get my dfp working on my pc.

No problem. :)

Yeah I know frex but the cheapest pedal conversion is 255.56 euro and I have to buy a driving force pro too. Bit too much for me. :embarrassed:

edit: Ah I don't have a digital camera... oh well maybe by the time GT4 is released ;p
thanks

Didn´t get your PM. I see that Pak has already answered your request. Cheers!

By the time you have built a really amazing cockpit you could have probably bought a decient second hand car .......but ofcource, you can't drive on some of the most amazing places on earth at over 100 mph plus!

thats is a great cockpit :) :) :

I will build the most 133t cockpit on GTP cuz mine will have a door and a cup holder. Damn i'm so cool.

what it will look like
dance551-homie.jpg

sideview
dance551-homie2.jpg

buttview

i will make a wannabe roll cage n block the other side so people will have to use the door.

My drawings are still in the expiremental stage, cuz we're buying a cheap racing seat and we have to conform the cockpit around it. It'll have one side open, and the other side as an armrest or something. We're takin measurments from different stuff....even thinking about taking the measurments from by bro's BMW 318ti or my Honda Accord. It's gonna be hard cuz it's not gonna stay in the same place every day, my mom would freak if she saw that just sittin in the middle of the room. Neat freaks......
I need 150 dollars..... or at best 100, for a used DFP on ebay.

Now that I think about it, I often wonder about how to make a cockpit for me to enjoy not only Gran Turismo, but also other racing games. But when it comes to stuff like this, I'm an artist. So I want to be as artistic as possible. I have professional visions in mind. Perhaps if I had the money, I'd get a flat-screen and get two good speakers. So I wouldn't mind having a Twin set reminiscent of "Super GT" or either "Daytona USA" game, for example. And those are the ones I'm thinking about for a project.

Look at this site below, then look at the arcade consoles I was able to pick up from this site to give you an idea as to what I've been thinking of all alone.

Here are 9 Cabinet examples I'm inspired in to making my own model:
SEGA RACING GAMES:

http://www.klov.com/game_detail.php?letter=L&game_id=8399
MIDWAY/ATARI GAMES:
http://www.klov.com/game_detail.php?letter=S&game_id=9429, http://www.klov.com/game_detail.php?letter=S&game_id=9428,
OTHERS:
http://www.klov.com/game_detail.php?letter=R&game_id=9226, http://www.klov.com/game_detail.php?letter=R&game_id=9312, http://www.klov.com/game_detail.php?letter=N&game_id=8810

And as a "Did You Know," did you know that Ridge Racer V has an arcade to it? If not, look at this: http://www.klov.com/game_detail.php?letter=R&game_id=9314

http://www.klov.com/game_detail.php?letter=&game_id=7770

Ferrari F355 Challenge. The game is freaking LOUD. And I know because I played this game before in an arcade. It's damn near close to being there in real life. I don't really like the F355, but a nice game, if not challenging to control. Strangely enough, the game has seperate difficulty levels with the two shifting styles. I used the paddle shift, and I think the game was at its hardest. There is a stanard stick to your right when you play. To me, this is perhaps the ultimate setup if you want to go all-out in your design. And it comes with three screens. You know, just in case one screen isn't enough to increase your love of the GT series.

here´s my 10 euro solution. 6 pieces of wood and 16 screws is all you need. 👍

I've been thinking more about this topic (before my freaking browser crashed), and I was thinking of something that's functional and stylish. So if I could, I could come up with some kind of cockpit design that kind of combines the shifter placement with my "RUSH the Rock" example from the links I provided. On top of that, I want a rather stylish design for my cockpit. I guess in other words, I want to come up with a cockpit that I can be comfortable to use and enjoy. As I said, I prefer not to come up with a bigtime project as building my own unit to play GT4, but more about bringing arcade designs home. I think coming up with a great one entails how detailed and artistic you want to be. And everyone knows what they want to create for a personal cockpit to play the game with. So, I hope some of my ideas are more of what I'd consider "professional cockpits." Of course, people are free to come up with their own ideas. Work with your talents and your budget. Give it a try, GTPlanet.

Kind of what I'm going for in terms of a steering wheel and shifter setup is like is with the Honda NSX. An example is here:

http://www.pistonheads.com/news/images/5985-12.jpg

Note how you lay back and drive the car, while the shifter is down for you to grab traditionally. You know, traditional in the sense of reaching down to your left or right and switching the gears. This is of course if you want such a shfting setup. I'd of course want to have both a paddle and stick setup for however I want to do my shifting. I don't know, I kind of want to feel like I'm in a car and not at an arcade. I'll play Sega Super GT to death if an arcade place has one, but if I came up with my own custom driving assembly for GT4 (as well as other racing games), I'd want something truly unique but still works. I'd have to apply for a patent for something really out-of-the-ordinary. But the driving position and shifter setup is something I would like if I had money, talent (more than I have now), time, and a JGTC Race Queen cutie sitting on my lap or in my arms. Uh... back to the topic. In fact, I'm trying to draw up a setup I would want to use. And I was considering a setup as if I wanted to allow a twin unit like in some of the links I provided. Maybe I'm thinking like I was building an arcade machine than a specialized driving setup.

But if you wanted to go all-out on your creation and money isn't an object, which arcade game in the links I provided, would equal or come close to your creation? By the way, a few years ago, I went to the beautiful Houston Galleria shopping mall. I played Daytona USA at big arcade place there, and it had about eight Daytona USA units linked together. I'd love to imagine a place where this company builds up a place so that six people can play GT4 in the same building, playing on an LAN. But to me, the San Francisco RUSH arcade games were the realistic in the sense of the wheel and shifter setup. I'm sorry to say more than I usually do, but I just wanted to comment.

ok guys, just a quick warning.
DONT buy from www.racebasecockpit.com
if you do, make sure ure well covered legally.
I ordered their DIY plankit 5 weeks ago, payed by banktransfer (dumb me).
Havent received anything to this day, eventho they confirmed getting my cash a month ago.
What makes the whole thing even more annoying is that theyre not even replying to my emails ive sent them asking about my order.
:grumpy:

I don't know about that, I ordered from them last year with no problems. I can't remember how long it took to receive it, but just give them more time. I have only heard good things about them in the past.

Very nice cockpit, you'll be pleased.

Did you build the DIY plankit? Do you have any pictures? How long did it take? How stiff is the whole setup?

thanks.

I have also paid Robert from race base for a monitor stand months ago. Robert didn't reply to my email or mobile calls last week. If I don't receive a satisfactory reply this week I'm going to take some action.

BMW- Yes, I built the DIY kit, the MkII version. It took me a few weekends to complete but someone that knows what they're doing could do it in 1 weekend. It is very solid and also quite adjustable for different users. I bought a $30 seat massager and padded it with extra foam and is really comfortable. Plus the massage motor makes it feel more realistic! I will try to post some pictures soon.

The only negative is that it's a little challenging to get in and out of, but that's a minor concern.
