No idea why people keep doing renders of coupes and convertibles based on the Giulia, Alfa is not German they have a History of having both those being based on a entirely different looking platform, see the Brera and Spider of the last gen, and the GT and Spider before that one.

I think people are desperate for not only more competition, but also, an entirely different approach to the typical three/four model platform in that segment. A typically exciting Alfa approach in more than just a sedan just seems right in some respects. Considering how Lexus, and hell, even Chrysler have dropped the ball in the same segment(s), another option seems right. Feels right. Should be right.

But I'll be damned if Alfa barely gets the sedan off the ground before they hand off a coupe to Dodge, a wagon to Chrysler, and a convertible to Maserati.

Blue

Even though it doesn't feature V8 engine, its dimensions and drivetrain imply that it would be a popular choice for people currently trying to replicate V8 Supercar series in GT6 using all kind of high-powered coupes and estates (counts for the top Quadrifoglio model). :)

The blue makes it look like the car has been in production for a few years. This design is like the B4 A4 and Accord Euro/Acura TSX in their time. It is perfect in proportion and execution.

Why? Mid 90s DTM was 20 years ago. Both companies have moved on.
BMW moved on, Mercedes moved on, Alfa has been set aside by Fiat Group.
Now with this car Alfa hopefully will be back where it belongs, on the same class of sports sedans like BMW Mercedes and Audi.

When did Alfa Romeo ever compete directly with BMW? They've always done things slightly differently to the Germans, and that's why they're special. Alfa's lineup has historically been very different from those of the Germans and I sincerely hope it stays that way. The Germans sit around and copy each other until they're left with impeccably built copies of each others' teutonic saloons. Alfa built sporty, fun cars that tended to be smaller and worse in just the right ways.

When i think of Alfa Romeo cars during they FWD years, they remind me of Italian Acura's Sporty Premium FWD cars

To this day, I think FCA would be kidding themselves just a bit if they thought Alfa was really that far removed from the Acura/Volvo/Skoda/Infiniti near-luxury grouping of cars. Sure, they're luxurious in their own right, but they don't get to sit at the big-boys table with ze Germans, Cadillac, and Lexus.

Acura/Volvo/Skoda/Infiniti near-luxury
Why is Skoda listed in this group? High spec Volkswagen and low spec Audi are much closer to other listed brands. Although I'd still put Infiniti among the Germans and Lexus.

Seeing as how the flagship Skodas are second-hand Audis, it largely has that feel from me. Even if we were to make the argument that they are premium VWs, that's largely where Audi was 10 years ago, and they were more of an Acura/Volvo/Saab competitor at that time compared to today.

My problem with considering Infiniti at the same level as the Germans, Cadillac, and Lexus assumes that they have consistent levels of quality and refinement across all of their models - and its simply not there.

I do realize I forgot to put Jaguar with the big-boy table. Lincoln, and to some extent Buick, could go in that near-luxury set, too.

Seconding the confusion at Skoda - Alfa is more in line with VW as far as aspirational stuff goes. Realistically more so, since even VW with its relentless niche-filling hasn't got any plans to make a 500bhp saloon. That's what Audi is for.

Traditionally though, Alfa has been a BMW/Audi/Merc/whatever competitor. They just haven't quite achieved that aim.

They aren't. They're slightly lower (perceived) quality, slightly better value-for-money VWs. Obviously they all share bits under the skin, but Skoda is very much the lowest rung of the VW empire - alongside SEAT maybe, but not as "youth"-orientated.

Does Skoda still use their own engines? The early 200x models did, and the 1.4mpi was so, SO much more reliable than the 1.4fsi/16V piece of crap found in its VW group brethren.

Ah! So Skoda is VW North America!

I believe everything is shared now - but I'm also led to believe that Skoda itself designs all the Volkswagen Group engines below 1400cc. Just as Audi handles everything about 3 litres, as far as I'm aware.
