Well, there is a reason why every car dont keep their stock setups when they add alot more power, and it is nice to be able to stop the car as well when at end of a straight. Let's face it, Fading is one aspect, but going from 0-250-0 again, your stock brakes wont do that very fast compared to a big brake kit.

Because of brake fade. Face it.

If you want to fit that damage model in a game with the current weather system/online features/track/car selection and course editor and photo mode that GT currently has, and come out with something that holds more info than the blu-ray discs be my guest :)

No game has come even near to 50 Gbs in size and like gt2, you could have 2 discs.

I knew I would get this argument, it's getting a bit old. :) Damage plays a HUGE part in racing. Some of you may find it unimportant, but it's not.

it plays into racing between crappy drivers like you. DAMAGE IS IN GT5. so what if it's not visually perfect? that's not even what matters about damage. & even if the cars aren't effected realistically, who cares? do you plan on crashing people? if so don't buy the game bcuz no1 wants to deal w/ppl like u

That is your opinion.

Personally I think cosmetic damage is 100% important, and mechanical damage I would rather not have.

Edit:

LOL all this talk of brakes, look at the ad @ the bottom of my GTP page, EBC Brakes Direct.
Not in a driving sim, which GT5 is. Go play Grid or other arcade physics games. Not an opinion.

edit: Arf arf arf :-/

true. forza was forced to have 2 disks and they still only had 20gb of video game as gt5 tops. so basically, gt5 is 2.5 times the game that forza is except forza's car list and damage is far better. I don't care about the damage because I know how to drive but it would be nice if turn 10 chose gt5's car list instead of kaz making a car list that only serves him. I don't mean to insult the guy, he's a legend and I am thankful for him but it's true

This is so wrong. Read some preliminary school physics before posting fall statements.

Of course the diameter of the brakes give you more force, thus more stopping force, thus better brakes. It's not only for the fading.

What are you talking about? Did you even read my posts?

And you'd be happy with a free polished turd, so here you go

Great, now all I need is 100 posts so I can start my own thread discussing the minor scratches and the food that the dog ate before excretion and how much better it could have been with more pedigree chum rather than so much (low poly) standard chum :)

Right, because the best drivers never crash. I mean, Ayrton Senna never crashed, nor did Giles villeneuve, or for that matter neither did Bruce Mclaren nor Jim Clark. It's not like Schumacher has ever crashed into someone else either...

Oh wait...

I guess they were just crappy drivers. ;)

Lets be honest, Gran Turismo isn't a sim.

Mechanical damage would be pointless also. If you're a bad enough driver to crash and damage your car, you'll probably be the type of person to just restart anyway.

Think of older cars that don't have very powerful or resilent brakes. Many of them from the '60s-'70s only had drum brakes.
The lack of brake upgrades means that especially for those cars, stopping power cannot be increased and that fade is not simulated, or if it is, that it cannot be reduced.

Drum brakes are extremely powerful, but the feel they have in real life is poor, not as linear as disks, but again you cant relay this into a game... but ye, does seem weird that you cant upgrade brake kits.

Dude, just run and never look back. You're gonna get stoned!

220 Premium cars + their racing modified versions = 444 Premium cars

Except not all premium cars are going to have Racing modifications. You have to discount the racing cars. And even then, there are probably going to be some that can't be RMed.

Without the penalty of mechanical damage you would have people who take advantage of that and ram people/use other cars as brakes/scrape the armco.

But I'm thinking about random people in matchmaking sessions.
