ALMS Season V

Tower Turn 13
Okay so everyone look at the OP and check to see if it's OK. We can start at Laguna next Friday?

Next Friday I'll be at an actual ALMS event.. :P Luckily it's pre-season, to bad I love Laguna..

Everyone is updated.

BTW you can all switch cars after the preseason race and up to the start of the first season race. After that you're stuck. :)

What would be good specs for the V12 Vantage during pre-season? The specs are not specified in the OP. I really would like to try running that.

EDIT: Also, did you see my question about the RS tires in my previous post TT13?

Eleven people already and it hasn't even been up for 24 Hours 👍 Looking forward to this.

I'm pretty interested in coming back for another season.

GTPlanet: Tez_SP17
PSN: StormPacer17
Car: Lotus Evora

I did say I'd be running the Evora this season.

Now the hard part.... do I go for Red/White/Blue, or Green/Black? Hmmmm.....

Nope I didn't see it. I was actually thinking the opposite. Turn off tire wear and require a pit stop, since tire wear is so absolutely lousy.

I prefer softs but we could require one stop and allow only one stint of softs.

I also don't know anything about homologating cars, and I don't know who was doing that with the Vantage, unfortunately. Was it techni? I'll add the newcomers now.

I know for sure i wanna run Daytona and perhaps Le Mans at the end, but aside from that ill just be trolling the thread all season :sly:

That's what I like to hear. Lots of trolling from Kev.

Also FH who is this mysterious Anthony? What's his PSN and car choice?

Not sure if I mentioned it but I'll be missing Laguna for sure, real ALMS event at Mosport that weekend.

That's fine Mac. Preseason is no worries. That's awesome that there's an ALMS race up there for you to watch! It's probably more affordable than Sebring, too, which is the only one near where I live.

When are we starting again? This friday?? I'm stepping down from the RUF. lol It needs some down force. Or a better driver! Think I'll try the 458 or the vette. If its not taken yet. Tried the 458 at spa during the half way race and liked it. Sorry gatrs still haven't hook the computer up yet. Work!

Naw next Friday. 458 is prematurely spoken for but that might change. I'll put you down for those for now.

But you guys can still get together and do a test race tomorrow night. I just won't be here, but that isn't important.

I'll be away for whatever race is on the Friday in two weeks time. Most likely going out and getting sloshed for my birthday. :D

I live 40 minutes away from Lime Rock Park. :dopey:

Well, it was just a suggestion. you are the race steward after all. Thanks for the input. The only reason I bring it up is because I'm just sick of using them all the time just to try to remain competitive. But I'm one voice and a rule shouldn't be swayed form just one voice. Even with the shoddy tire wear, softs always trump any other compound. (I can get racing hards to last over 30 minutes in a 555 HP R8 Race Car offline).

To be honest, I don't like having the tire wear off.

I don't know who homologated the cars last season. Anybody know proper specs for the V12? I've seen it run in the actual series and it looked so strong, especially a Laguna Seca (too bad for the penalties and a botched pit stop :ouch:).

Also, I live near Connecticut as well.

Yeah you're right turning off tire wear might be bad and probably no one wants to do that.

What I worry about with switching from softs is what Jav brought up in the past--that LMPs are difficult to run on any other compound because of their torque. But I know a lot of series are switching to RH. I did it with the RUF RGT cup series and it seemed to work but then again the cars didn't have much power. And yeah the Vantage is a car I follow in ALMS races when it participates (not sure where it was at Lime Rock).

Well, 1 or 2 stints with softs, or limit to RH or RM. RS is only really supposed to be used when the conditions are right (i.e. cold weather or rain, etc.). They're not really supposed to be used all the time (especially during hot weather), but then again, GT5 doesn't have regulated temperature changes (not even when it rains), so temperature doesn't play an important role in tire degradation as it should.

That was odd for the Aston not to show up at Lime Rock. It wasn't on the entry list either. It's not on Mosports entry list as well. The GT field is supposed to be around 450-500 hp and a minimum weight of 1,245 kgs, but with GT5's inability to RM so of these cars makes that difficult.

I say limit to one stint on softs.
Free choice other than that.
And THAT GUY is not allowed to use the Ferrari.

Im pretty sure the vantage wont be doing anymore alms rounds until petit lemans. If I remember correctly it was also under the stipulation that they recieve sponsorship from lowes again.

As for the tire wear issue I say ban softs from gt and let lmp run what ever they want.

That's also an idea. I also forget to mention in my last post that if you are going to turn off tire wear, then there has to be a compromise somewhere, for instance ban ABS. But then that wouldn't be in the spirit of the ALMS as ABS is allowed.

That sucks about the Aston martin. I really wanted to see it finish the season. I am stoked about the Evora though. It did pretty well in the last race with all things considered. I just can't wait for the 2013 Viper GTS-R to make it's debut. It's been too long for them.

Gatrs are you running the RUF again this season? I'll consider teaming up with you if so. I have a car with a good suspension tune.

Turn tire wear off and make everyone use 2 compounds. In my 90s LM series we have an option and prime tire with a minimum amount of laps and stints per compound with it varrying from track to track. Also I was running the Vantage @520hp and +25kg from minimum weight to get the 50/50 balance. Its probably fine @stock minimum weight.
