A poor DA is how that happened. She was only charged with reckless endangerment, which is a Class A Misdemeanor in Tennessee. That only carries a maximum punishment of 11 months and 29 days in jail as mentioned in the article. Had she been charged with manslaughter or 2nd-degree murder, she would be in prison.
Well, the guy didn't die

She actually said this:

“This has inspired me to do better,” she told the judge, The Tennessean reported. “It inspired me to help people who have been in my shoes.”

Help people who shot unarmed homeless people? Is that what she means?

edit: Apparently she is attempting to sue somebody for $40m for calling her a murdering on twitter. Sounds about right.

Ah, I somehow missed that. Still, it's poor DA though since there was likely enough evidence to convict her of Second Degree Attempted Murder, which looks like it carries a sentence of 5-15 years in Tennessee.

The case looks like the DA wanted a conviction without much effort and just went for the lowest charge they could.

That makes sense, although I will quibble the point about funding social care not improving general health as a well maintained social care sector has positive effects on health outcomes in direct and indirect ways. I'm guessing the best testable metric of this would be QALYs, and there is research to show how increasing funding for social care may increase these.
Would that research factor in any benefits for increasing funding for social care while making an equivalent cut in the health budget?

Oh no! Nobody could have seen this happen!

Nobody. What a complete shock it is.

The problem with these parody accounts is that I'm not sure if they're a joke or really the person saying that stuff. I can see Matt Walsh who, according to his filmography, doesn't know what a woman is asking people about their genitalia.

I thought that was meant to be the idea.
Of course, but the worrying thing is I can actually see some of these people saying the most absurd stuff and it being completely normal for them. Don't get me wrong, I don't want it to stop.

Didn't Meta just go through a massive lay-off? Are we seeing an end to corporate social media or something?

Whatever it is, it's going down in the history books i guess.

Meta laid off 11,000 people, primarily due to shareholder pressure and Zucky admitting that they massively over-hired during the pandemic. He seems to be staunchly resisting their call to stop dumping so much money into his virtual playground though, which is more the real issue.

Money isn't stupid cheap to borrow anymore. The whole business model of post-2012 Silicon Valley (IE acquire money from somebody else to grow) is basically not workable with 3% federal funds rate.
