Ah. So the feebs stumbled on an interview in which the CEO who is more interested in vibes than safety says he doesn't look at 50-year-old white guys with specific expertise as prospective hires because he doesn't think they have the capacity to inspire like a young platform operator supposedly does (?) and obviously that's woke. How they manage to refrain from explicitly invoking racism and ageism is beyond me.
“When I started the business, one of the things you’ll find, there are other sub-operators out there, but they typically have, uh, gentlemen who are ex-military submariners, and they — you’ll see a whole bunch of 50-year-old white guys,” Rush told Teledyne Marine in a resurfaced interview.

“I wanted our team to be younger, to be inspirational and I’m not going to inspire a 16-year-old to go pursue marine technology, but a 25-year-old, uh, you know, who’s a sub pilot or a platform operator or one of our techs can be inspirational,” said Rush.
I mean that's more than a little stupid...but okay, I guess?
Disqualifying a driver with military experience because he’s white and over 50 is quite the edict, particularly given the risk of operating such a vehicle.

Translation: Environmental, social, and governance (ESG) infested OceanGate.

ESG scores — with the “S” representing diversity — degrade companies for hiring white men of a certain age.

ESG awards identity over competence.

OceanGate did just that by proclaiming qualified drivers who are white not “inspirational” enough for the job.
Wait What Peter GIF by The Bachelor

Conservative is when...just...aggressively stupid.

Edit: I'm compelled to add that OutKick was founded by connie bitch Clay Travis who, with Buck Sexton, filled the void in talk radio left when Rush Limbaugh went tits up.

The internet is really going to town with the Sub memes.

Hate to admit that I snorted a bit seeing this one.

"But some industry experts and a whistle-blowing employee had worried about its safety, expressing concern that OceanGate opted against certifying the Titan through third parties such as the American Bureau of Shipping, a leading classifier of submersibles, or the European group DNV, an independent quality assurance and risk management company that sets standards for the design safety of underwater vehicles.
...
In particular, Lochridge was concerned about the materials used in the hull and a lack of testing performed on the hull to measure its ability to withstand the intense pressures of deep waters.

The company called a meeting the next day to discuss Lochridge's concerns, according to the lawsuits. At the conclusion of the meeting, Lochridge stated he could not accept OceanGate's design decisions and would not authorize any crewed voyage without further testing. He was then fired."

It's almost like this was about engineering, testing, and certification practices and not really about whether anyone was "woke" or otherwise.

lol. So now Dan Crenshaw is criticizing search and rescue efforts. Setting aside that rescue is basically a non-issue given what actually happened to the sub, few are likely to be more familiar than Dan with that which most hinders efforts to find missing submersibles: poor depth perception.

Christ on a bike that connie bitch is D-U-M-B, stupid.

Not for nothing but it certainly does seem like Hunter Biden is just as much of a scumbag as the GOP has been shrieking about for the past 4 years.

Kinda like a "Trump telling the Justice Department to investigate Cuomo over/in retaliation for COVID" broken clock moment.

Real tragedy is for the families who now have to live with one of their family members or relatives dead in a watery grave deep down.

My mum knows of a doctor whose nephew got swallowed by the ocean due to Rock fishing. Ocean swallowed him and the body was never found the mother still lives with tragedy. It really screws your mind up when you hear this story.

Rest in Peace my condolences to the families also sad how a 19 year old died alongside his dad. They interviewed James Cameron the man even knows by the body langauge they did not make it his criticism was mainly how unsafe the oceangate submerisibles were especially the use of Carbon Fiber.

Can you give some examples in here? What I've seen reported is that he didn't pay income taxes in the US for two years while he lived overseas, and a very manufactured charge of owning a firearm while being addicted to a controlled substance was used to get a guilty plea on the income tax thing. That's as far as I know, but it definitely doesn't make him what the GOP has been claiming, which is a lot.

The 19 y.o went to Strathclyde University, where I did my undergrad degree and where I worked previously to my current job.

I think that even though passengers signed disclaimers that Oceangate will still face massive lawsuits, especially if it can be demonstrated that they ignored warnings and/or misled customers or misrepresented the massive risks involved. The families of the victims will no doubt be devastated, but I'd imagine that pain will turn to anger quite quickly.

Imagine being the people who had booked to go on the sub next though...

Honestly, that's one of the kindest memes about the situation, there have been some absolute corkers out there which I will not post just because, you know, deaths.

However, that doesn't mean this isn't still a funny situation. Literally one of the best parts of Horrible Histories, which (for those who don't know) was a British children's educational comedy TV show, was the recurring "Stupid Deaths" skit, in which the "grim reaper" presides over various historical figures who recount their stories of how they died, always in hilarious ways. This submarine accident pretty much ticks every box.

Thing is, 5 people died and there's nothing funny about that. However, the manner of their deaths is the thing which has made it such a moment with lack of sympathy. I mention Stupid Deaths because, well, things can have terrible consequences and still be funny. This was a perfect storm of arrogance, ignorance, mismanagement, safety naïvety along with the pure irony of sinking at the worlds most famous shipwreck. You literally couldn't write a more delicious checklist for a Stupid Deaths skit if you tried. Apart from lives lost, there literally isn't a redeeming feature from this escapade which warrants anything other than being memed to oblivion.
Adding that the founder who ignored everything plus a couple of billionaires were onboard, and you get the people (apart from politicians you don't agree with) that the general populace has had enough of and it just increases it all.

It's like the Suez Canal blocking event in 2021. An absurd situation caused which had unbelievable knock-on effects on the entire world in an area where you go "wait it was that easy, and there's no contingency plan?". In that case we had the opposite response though. With the Titanic sub, there was incredible man-power out to rescue it, looking like too much. With the Evergiven, you had the photo of one little digger and the world watching on as it had billions of dollars relying on it working. Here, we had Billionaire's having millions of dollars of equipment and manpower out to rescue them in a super-deep part of the ocean. Meanwhile, across the Ocean in the Mediterranean Sea, another two migrant ships sunk, killing multiple more people than perished in the sub. It was despicable to see news websites with three articles on this Sub at a time - as the main headline too - and then seeing the response to 20+ deaths at Sea being just a footnote with a cryptic headline to hide it. If just 1% of the wealth of the billionaires was sent to help a rescue effort, then the desperate people fleeing from Africa and paying for it with their lives might have had a chance, but no the money was spent to rescue people who willingly paid for a death sentence in a carbon fibre can that deliberately went out of their way to avoid every safety regulation designed to stop them dying in the exact way they eventually did.

One wonders how readily wealthy people are going to climb into any more pressurised craft built by self-proclaimed "disruptors" after this.

Lots of things are done in a specific way for a specific reason to do with safety - and lots of safety regulations are written almost literally in blood. The deaths in the Titan were unimaginably fast, but if you're in a vessel designed to keep pressure in rather than out and you're unlucky enough to survive the rapid acceleration from an explosive decompression, you'll have a whole number of seconds to contemplate your upcoming fate before it arrives - and it'll hurt the entire time until it does.

Although you do get a better view. Until the blood vessels in your retina burst and the rest of your life looks like a Call of Duty screenshot.

100% I think you were just cryptic enough for some people to miss that you're talking about space tourism, but you're absolutely on point. If people aren't seeing the parallels between this event and the new space tourism surge, they need to look again.

I don't really care about the charges Hunter had brought against him by the IRS, nor whether or not you consider the gun charges to be an elaborate con to get him to commit to a plea deal. He was never going to get more or less than a slap on the wrist from the start. I also don't care about the specificities of the heinous 🤬 the GOP have deluded themselves into thinking must be true and Democrats/his father must be conspiring to cover up. I care about the things about his character that have been dug up in the process of the GOP's witch-hunt. I compared this to the Cuomo/Trump thing specifically for a reason.

Scumbags steal tens of thousands of dollars to use on hookers and drugs. More importantly and what I was specifically talking in relationship to, scumbags use their relationships to people who are actually important and powerful to threaten others when they aren't getting what they want. Assuming that the IRS whistleblowers aren't just lying, that pretend goombah TV mobster crap is something I'd completely expect from Trump's awful children; and I think no better of Hunter Biden just because his father isn't a piece of 🤬.

I'm not following this story very closely. Do you have links to the theft or the IRS whistleblower accusations? I'm not playing coy, I honestly haven't been paying attention to the story.

“I am sitting here with my father and we would like to understand why the commitment made has not been fulfilled,” according to a document Shapley gave to Congress, which quotes from texts that are allegedly from Hunter Biden to the CEO of a Chinese fund management company.

The message continues: “Tell the director that I would like to resolve this now before it gets out of hand. And now means tonight.” The message goes onto say, “I will make certain that between the man sitting next to me and every person he knows and my ability to forever hold a grudge that you will regret not following my direction. I am sitting here waiting for the call with my father.”

Shapley said he participated in the investigation of the 2018 tax filing. Court filings in Delaware indicating that a plea agreement is forthcoming have been sparse on detail, but Shapley testified under oath that Biden was listing personal expenses as business expenses.

“He was expensing personal expenses, his business expenses," Shapley said. "So, I mean, everything, there was a payment that — there was a $25,000 to one of his girlfriends, and it said, 'golf membership.' And then we went out and followed that money, it was for a sex club membership in L.A.”

Shapley says travel costs to visit prostitutes were also improperly booked as business expenses.

Thanks. I agree that this is scumbaggy. The GOP has claimed more than that, but it's scumbaggy none-the-less. The allegations from the right are that Hunter influenced American policy through his father, and then was shielded from consequences by pressures placed by the US government.

I don't understand the "RFK Jr. is my kind of Democrat" brand of conservatism. I mean I understand that it's founded upon anti-vax and Putin apologia, but it's still really bizarre to me that the "reee socialism" types have so latched onto the bitch when you could have removed the anti-vax and Putin apologia and he still wouldn't be the kind of Democrat that appeals to the me that was a Democrat.

RFK JR is basically Jimmy Dore in a suit. His entire grift is appealing to conservatives (and disaffected, easily influenced “independents”) by towing the Trumper line about vaccines and the “woke” coupled with a vague, insincere populist message of “the uniparty establishment is bad” or “big corporations are exploitative”. Even if he does wind up appealing to enough of these types, I’m not sure how many would vote for anyone with a D in front of their name to begin with. Let alone would he sway any progressives/Bernie bros who actually give two cents more about corruption and corporate influence over political the political sphere.

I think the glaring issue is that RFK JR would need vast amounts of conservatives to sit out the hotly-contested Republican primary to vote in the Democratic primary...which seems extraordinarily unlikely in this cycle...since most states do not allow people to participate in both.

But RCV in the GE could be his ticket to the presidency if RCV was so adopted.
