I'm actually surprised insurance execs are killed in greater numbers. If you've been denied coverage and are going to die anyway, might as well take out the person benefiting from denying you coverage.
Area where the person was killed is VERY busy (especially today with the tree lighting occurring 6 blocks from the hotel). Would be stunned if this wasn't pre-meditated.

May or may not be an assassination
Most certainly was. Manhattan is one of the safest areas in the country from gun violence per capita because basically nobody is carrying unless they've got bad intentions, and even then it's so thoroughly packed with people and security cameras and cops walking their beat that you will get caught unless you've got a plan.

Its right next to Times Square and between the Diamond District and Millionaire's Row. I walk about 10 blocks south of the hotel when I am in the office. It is not even a quarter of a mile from Radio City Hall.

Last time I walked from a hotel near Grand Central toward the convention center I caught Halle Berry leaving one of the studios. There were a couple dozen people waiting, a decent portion of those were security enforcing a perimeter around the door. Even when the public knows exactly when and where a person is going to be, the boldness required to gain access to a reliable and fatal shot would be tough to do.

Outside the front door of a random hotel? One of hundreds on the island? With all sorts of people walking in and out constantly, getting dropped off and picked up? You don't just accidentally find a powerful CEO and take a random shot lol. Wild.

That's a pretty far walk (NYC standards) from 43rd and Madison to 11th Ave and 38th.

I've seen the video and this was NOT an accident. Man was wearing a mask and firing a silenced gun right at the target. Never faced the camera so completely possible they just have a poor general description. Then again, that's what was released by the NYPD.

This is actually something I've been pondering about since I saw someone mention it on Twitter a couple weeks ago. Trump is effectively untouchable and multiple people planned out shooting at him on the campaign trail anyway.

His toadies (most of which are not only unelected but are not even government officials and are just buddies with him) who are all making big promises of how they will personally help fire hundreds of thousands of government employees and ransack Social Security/Medicaire and deport tens of millions of people and take steps to eliminate access to medical care for anyone who isn't C-Suite? I would not be surprised at all if at least a few of them don't survive his second term.

I think we're entering a very violent era in America. I wouldn't be surprised if Trump himself doesn't make it a year, and if violence like this CEO assassination becomes relatively commonplace, almost like the rise of school shootings. In fact, I don't doubt that the school shooting trend reverses and transforms into this type of targeted violence. The culture of the country and especially our politics has just gone off the rails and left an incredible number of people feeling helpless and hopeless.

Interesting supposition. School shootings are... exceptionally normalised despite obviously being a horrific tragedy each and every time.

I wonder how swiftly action would be taken if rich CEOs were gunned down in as great a number. Would it still be thoughts and prayers then?

If there was any doubt that the insurance guy was deliberately targeted

Earlier, we mentioned that US media said police have found three shell casings with words on them.

Our US partner CBS News has just confirmed with law enforcement officials that the words "deny," "defend," and "depose" were written on the shell casings recovered at the scene of the attack.

Officials say they are examining whether the words point to a motive related to insurance companies' responses to claims.

That the words were written on the shell casings, according to officials, was first reported by ABC News.

There is speculation that the words come from a book written by an insurance law expert called Delay, Deny, Defend.

It would seem "depose" has become the fourth step in that process.

Edit: I just checked the entire internet and as far as I can tell there is not a single person who is upset about this lol.

I like that the NYPD has released a Crimestoppers photo of the suspect without his mask at a Starbucks and also with a different build, different clothes and a different backpack to the guy who was on the video. Keep that conviction rate high no matter what.
My immediate (like within 2 seconds) response was "that's clearly not the same person".

The only thing we can say with any kind of certainty, insofar as we can be certain about it, is that they're both people. I mean it seems like the one at Starbucks without a mask could be female?

(Also this has nothing to do with much of anything but New York had pay phones in 2022?)

Can’t be too careful but this is clearly a girl in a Starbucks with no backpack and strings hanging from her hood.

I suspect a lot of people are already praying for rich CEOs to be gunned down. Wishful thinking isn't a crime yet.

This feels a bit like when you see someone stealing baby formula.

"Did you see the guy who shot the rich CEO who was responsible for the death of countless people?"
"Nah mate, not me. Must have been looking the other way. Nippy bloke he was, lit out like a cut fart before I could get a proper look. Think I heard someone say his name was Jesus Christ? Dunno. Best of luck. "

The pre-authorization for our thoughts and prayers was denied.
In this particular case, according to social media, the "Thoughts and Prayers" deductible is so high that it never reached the authorization manager's desk.

They've gone from "it didn't happen" to "it happened but it's not that bad" in record time.

Expecting "it happened and it's good, actually" to drop any moment.

They'll probably go full tilt in the next 4 years with, "Yeah, he did it, but the victim's a woman & they're basically property."

Just saw this in my news feed (from the BBC):
"Search for man who shot health boss in New York now ‘multi-state’, say police"
Apparently he may have left the state of New York already and is now somewhere else.

Think Season 2 GIF by NBC

I wonder whether all this Clancy Wiggum stuff is indicative of the police being as unenthusiastic about this search as the majority of the population seems to be.

So anesthesiologists routinely overbill providers and Anthem Blue Cross moved to implement a system like that which the state uses in order to limit the practice. The American Society of Anesthesiologists then harnessed leftist outrage and the slaying of an insurance executive to strike down the change.

Like most of us, I still don't understand what any of this means.

But I do know that the American Society of Anesthesiologists likely has a leader who will be some sort of place at some sort of time.
