I got the letter a couple days ago. I think within the 2nd or 3rd sentence I started reading it in his voice. I was also annoyed that the letter was sent via IRS, which gave me a small heart attack.

Needless to say, I had a good chuckle and immediately tossed the letter in the trash.

Can you remember what it said? For the non-USians.

Colorado governor hid test kits to keep them from getting seized.

This is not a healthy response for the US to the pandemic. This is governors doing what needs to be done for their constituents in a lack of federal leadership. This kind of thing is exactly what you'd expect if the federal government completely failed and left the states to fend for themselves.

"I have total authority."

"Fine, you want to defy my orders? You're on your own."

"Give up your supplies."

Either Maine or Maryland (sorry) is supposed to have ordered in its National Guard to prevent the Feds from seizing the covid testing kits they legally and freely purchased from South Korea.

"You have the freedom to do it how you want."
(beat)
"No, not like that..."

Clearly they haven't done enough orangenosing. Do they not know the rules? (!)

And I don't blame them either. Despite whatever misinformation FEMA is attempting to spread, the feds are seizing medical supplies.

After reading up more about the Murder Hornets, their existence in the US is almost more alarming to me than COVID-19. While the hornets rarely attack people (although 50 people in Japan supposedly die every year), they absolutely wreck bee colonies. We're already treading a dangerous line when it comes to bees and we're getting pretty close to having a collapse of the entire species. Bees account for something like 80% of pollination in the world, both in the wild and on farms. Without bees, we could have a serious food shortage since pretty much everything we consume relies on crops.

Couple this with the current food shortage, or rather meat shortage, and a mass famine is not out of the realm of possibilities.

I just want to emphasize how disgusted I am with the Democratic Party right now, in light of it is going about the Biden accusations right now.

Back in 2018, when Christine Blasey-Ford accused justice Kavanaugh of assaulting and attempting to rape her 37 years ago, the entire right-wing instantly branded her as a liar, claiming how there's not enough evidence of what she alleged had happened, how Kavanaugh is a "good guy" and could never do such a thing, and some even saying how she's just a Democrat shill funded by Soros and other elites. The Democrats were obviously appalled about how the Republicans treated these accusations, sided with Ford, and the phrase "Believe All Women" become popularized. Two years later, the exact same thing is happening again, except the parties are switched. Biden gets accused of sexual assault 27 years ago. Republicans instantly believe Tara Reade, the accuser. Many democrats, however, the supposed "MeToo" and "believe all women" side, brushed off these allegations, pulling the "there's not enough evidence" card (despite the fact that there's seemingly more evidence given by Biden's accuser" as well as the "it's politically motivated" card. Such massive hypocrites. These people don't have the gall to follow through with believing all women when its inconvenient for them. Even worse, it just further proves that the DNC only cares about keeping the billionaires and elites wealthy and protected, even if it means nominating a demented old sexual abuser who has no clear policy on any issue, was less popular than Sanders for almost the entirety of his campaign, and has virtually zero shot at beating Trump.

To clarify, I believe in both Ford's and Reade's accusations. Statistically speaking, only 1-2% of all rape allegations are proven false, therefore accusers shouldn't instantly be met with this "they could be lying" rhetoric. Providing evidence is much harder than it sounds. And maybe it's convenient for me to say that I believe Ford and Reade because I hate both Kavanaugh and Biden, but I can say with confidence that if Bernie Sanders (I am a strong supporter of him) is accused of sexual assault, my support for him would instantly end, and the only way I could ever support him again is if it is somehow proven, through a court case, that the accuser had lied, which is statistically very rare.

But most of all, this is a huge setback for those who have survived sexual assault. At this point, why should anyone who was sexually assaulted by a prominent politician even come forward, considering that nearly 1/2 of the people will instantly not believe the accuser? Making these allegations are incredibly hard and courageous to do, and I can only imagine how the victims feel when they see millions of people doubting them. And believe me, there are many politicians in office who have committed sexual assault that we don't even know about.

As a leftist who already disliked the Democratic Party/DNC, I now revile them more than I ever have. It's clear as crystal they are not about equity, justice, and progressive values like they claim to be. Leftist, lifelong independents like Sanders who bring about progressive ideals can virtually never do well under this system; they are too "radical" for the DNC yet independent/third party candidates can't do well from the beginning. This just furthers the idea that the current system is unjust and needs a drastic overhaul.

Regarding the Asian giant hornets that have touched land in Washington state, there is a finite window where they can be contained, captured and extirpated.

I hope you use that time wisely. After that, it will be impossible to stop them.

Hmmm, finite window to contain an outbreak.

This is fun.

President Trump on Sunday took aim at George W. Bush after the former Republican president issued a call to push partisanship aside amid the outbreak of the novel coronavirus.

In a three-minute video shared on Twitter on Saturday, Bush urged Americans to remember "how small our differences are in the face of this shared threat."

"In the final analysis, we are not partisan combatants. We are human beings, equally vulnerable and equally wonderful in the sight of God," Bush said. "We rise or fall together, and we are determined to rise."

In an early morning tweet on Sunday, Trump called out Bush for his failure to support him as he faced an impeachment trial earlier this year over his alleged dealings with Ukraine. He cited apparent comments from Fox News anchor Pete Hegseth, who asked why Bush didn't push for "putting partisanship aside" amid the trial.

"He was nowhere to be found in speaking up against the greatest Hoax in American history," Trump said.

...

While Bush never commented publicly on the allegations and the trial, he and other members of his family have voiced criticism of the president and his policies.

The former president released the video as confirmed cases of COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus, continued to rise in parts of the U.S. The country has confirmed more than 1.1 million COVID-19 cases and more than 66,000 deaths from it.

Bush invoked the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks in his message, noting that the U.S. has faced "times of testing before."

Here's the video message from President Bush the Younger, since it doesn't appear in the article.

The religiosity is a little cloying at times, but I appreciate the spirit in which it's tendered.

I'm compelled to posit that since W. hails from a time before the GOP was so plagued with Trumpism, calls from him to cease partisanship very well could have manifested as a condemnation of the GOP's efforts to keep their leader from being held accountable, with the brunt of criticism being directed at Mitch McConnell and Lindsey Graham.
But he's obviously just part of the Deep State and a never-Trumper, as the Trumpkins like to say.

I have seen a conservative page mock the news about the hornets making Covid-19 lockdown jokes. The rest of the page's commenters just go, "I already saw them last year. Killed a couple. More media fear".

So yeah, that's not happening in this country.

Proving an allegation false? That's difficult, and not a legal standard. "Believe all women" is as bad as refusing to believe any of them. How about a slogan like "use your brain" and "apply critical thinking"? No? We have to just use a rule of thumb in a case where someone is accused of a crime?

I hate to break it to you, but outside of social media (let’s be honest, that doesn’t really reflect what the majority of people think) Sanders wasn’t as popular as the others. The (admittedly large) social media base that he had gave his crowd a false sense of majority. Don’t get me wrong, Sanders is appealing, and sometimes for good reason, but it seems like some of the people who support him aren’t willing to better themselves. I kind of supported him (Warren was my top choice until she dropped), but I was keen enough to understand that he wouldn’t solve my problems and that I’m going to have to -gasp- pull myself up from the bootstraps regardless of who is in charge. There is no conspiracy by the DNC. It’s clear that most of the people who voted wanted Biden, and voting is what matters at the end of the day.

Biden probably is guilty of sexual assault, but like what the GOP did for Trump I imagine the DNC will too throw it under the rug - after all, millions of people overlooked Trump's accusations when they voted for him in 2016. Hypocrisy and playing dirty seem like the only things politicians are good at nowadays.

It is also possible for the giant hornet to overcome thousands of bees; 30 hornets can tackle and kill 3,000 bees. However, based off the video posted above, I can't be sure if only the females are able to do that.

Although they have pincers, males do not have stingers and the scouts could very well be males incapable of prolonged combat. The female is by far the dominant of the species with their unbelievable size and powerful stinger and unlike the layman's view of hymanoptera, the Asian giant hornet stinger can be used multiple times.

Edit: I know it wasn't a serious suggestion but importation of something else to tackle the hornets is a very fast slope towards 1920s Australia approach to ecological "conservation".
