Silver lining - the supreme court still has 5 somewhat rational justices - a majority. The decisions the court makes over the next 4 years will be likely bad for people who value liberty, but I'm hopeful they won't be utterly unhinged.
(I would argue that SCOTUS has 2 bat**** crazy Justices, 2 boiler plate conservative ones, 3 liberal ones, and 2 who probably feel the largest responsibility to not let the USA becoming a bag of flaming dog****)

FTFY. Let's not act like just because Roberts and ACB have surprisingly ruled in our favor at times, that they will be poised to strike down some of the more insane things that the Trump admin is pushing for. After all, Roberts did have a pretty scathing and unhinged dissent to Obergefell v. Hodges, which, as given by Idaho's upcoming attempt to literally ban gay marriage once again, may not even last much longer.

That's why I qualified what I said - "the next 4 years will be likely bad for people who value liberty". We're at a pretty bleak point.
Where we're at: I think 5 justices would block Trump if he attempted to dissolve congress. The fact that I don't think we'd get 7, let alone 9 speaks volumes....but at least it's a majority.

I think it's time for Europe and the other Western Democracies to step up and act cooperatively to counteract Trump. Appeasement was tried in the past to contain another nationalist fascist. It didn't work. If Trump's intimidation and aggression bears fruit, he will just continue with more of the same. Call his bluff on tariffs and trade. If he doubles down, so be it. The fall out & economic dislocation will be substantial, but it will affect the US as much as other countries.

I hate to be a doomer but I feel like Trump's probably got Canada cornered with his tariffs and policies. If we don't somehow play nice with him, he's going to destroy Canada's economy, because we're so vitally linked to theirs.
There's a reason Alberta hasn't become this massive oil superpower like they always go on about wanting to be, it's because outside of trade with the US there isn't really much of a market for it. The EU is trying to cut down on fuel usage, Russia is never going to buy it even if we still traded with them, China isn't going to buy it because they buy from Russia... Nobody really wants Canadian oil, or our other resources, because they can get it elsewhere for much cheaper.
If US trade closes, we're kinda screwed. Even if we did find trade partners elsewhere, our ports are underdeveloped and so many pipelines and other infrastructure projects have been blocked over the years, the cost to transport the goods is way higher now than it could have been had they gone through.

I didn't say it would be easy, just not impossible. Give it time, plenty of nations would likely rather trade with Canada than Donald Trump's USA.
What we absolutely should not do is give up and become a US state, or worse, a territory with no rights. Appeasement was tried before, it's never worth it. We're even more screwed if we just let them take the country. The world would be screwed if that happened.
To be clear, I don't think Trump will actually invade, but I'm preparing myself mentally for the possibility nonetheless.
