America want to ruin Only Fools and Horses

It won't. They had their remake of a UK show about the working classes years ago. The legendary Steptoe & Son became Sanford and Son, which was very popular in its day.

Sure, The Office is a hit over there but which one would we, the Brits rather watch? The Office (UK) is like Fawlty Towers; the star that shines twice as bright only lives half as long. They were stopped way before they became saturated and stagnant. Unlike say, Top Gear.

Not all pilots are picked up. Red Dwarf USA's pilot bombed twice. With good reason.

Edit: Looking at that cast list makes me die inside.

So is the talk of having Granddad as the main character. Just.. no.

There's something I've always noticed about American sitcoms; they're always very... clean. There's much less grimeyness to them in comparison to British sitcoms. Anybody who has watched parts of Red Dwarf USA will know what I mean. And it just gets me thinking that OFAH USA would somehow not be as... 'common'.

Second edit: Only just occured to me that that cast list is pretty much Anchorman reunited. That just wouldn't fit in with the essence of OFAH.

I've always found OFAH resolutely unfunny anyway. It's a bunch of idiots being idiots, and whenever anything happens or a joke is on its way you can predict it a mile off. It pains me every time it makes it into those "top comedy show" lists.

The only way that the US can "ruin" Only Fools and Horses is if they put David Sodding Jason and Nicholas Chuffing Lyndhurst in it.

Dreadful program.

Please don't blame America as a whole for the crap the TV companies put out here.

Plus, look at it this way, it will make you like the British version more!!!

(I have never seen the show for the record)

America, Trolling the world since 1776.

As soon as our backs were turned the other way, you guys started throwing paper aeroplanes and putting the finger up while Canada did its best to not be associated with your antics.

I think you will be looking at a D- at the 250 year review...

Christ, someone who actually agrees with me. A truly worrying number of people seem to love it, I find it utter dross.

I think you've just restored my faith in humanity a little.

I was going to bring up the fact that The Office did make a successful transition across the pond, however, one has to look at the underlining tastes in british and american comedy to see how a transition would or would not work.

Sure, most of you would think that a Dr. Who movie or TV show done here in the US would bomb, but it would be put up against 46+ years of similar work there in Britian. It has a standard.

Another example, Top Gear. Sure the US version would hit its third series on Valientines Day, but compare it to the 18 series since its reboot in 2002 that the British version has enjoyed. It has a standard.

I am sick of all of the negative attention that is being drawn to an american attempt to bring a british version of a TV show just because it is successful over there, yet, you jump at the chance to attack an American version of the same TV show just because you expect the same kind of humor that its cousin has.

Two of a very small minority, most people i know who have taken the trouble to watch it have at least appreciated the genius of OFAH. Widely regarded as the late john sullivans best work. but, each to there own ofcourse. Regarding the two lead actors, David Jason and Nicholas lyndhurst i couldnt dissagree more if i tried. Considering they are both not londoners ,the voice acting is second to none in my opinion, for two individuals to put on a south london accent as convincing and smooth as they did is astounding. I dont think you should just rely on the voicework however, as the physical acting and body language is played through brilliantly. From the sharp twitches and shuffles for Del to the lankyness and awkwardness of rodney. It makes you feel this is how they are like in real life as themselves, when as we now if you hear david or nicholas speak they have for want of a better word 'posh' accents to say the least. Its unvelievable how convincing and believeable characters the portray.

Even though i like most people who have seen it think the comedy is supurb, I think people tend to judge it on the 'funnies, jokes or how many laugh out loud' moments its got, When it should be judged on the script, quality of acting and the actual story its trying to play out. Aswell as its comedic value. I for one, think its one of the very best. To be mentioned along with steptoe and son and fawlty towers.

DROSS i ask you???, DONT BE A PLONKER!!! ;)

What I dislike is the Americanizing of the way shows are filmed. Look at "Ramsays Kitchen Nightmares" for example. I loved the British version, but when they brought it here, they put random noises, and 3 second bits of violin music as he finds something horrible. Thats all unnecessary. Also, I feel that the American narrator thinks we aren't ACTUALLY watching, and gives too much information. It seems that other shows (Dragons Den/Shark Tank) did the same thing.

I have faith in there being a genuinely Good American remake of a show, I'm just not sure what it is yet. Watch "Episodes", they seem to nail it on the head.

We've given the States American Idol, America's Got Talent, Antiques Roadshow, The Office, Junkyard Wars, Shameless, Sanford & Son, Top Gear, Whose Line Is It Anyway?, Kim & Aggie and low and behold... The Jeremy Kyle Show.

Conversely, from them we've picked up Wheel Of Fortune, Blockbusters, Family Fortunes, Blankety Blank, The Price Is Right, Sale Of The Century, This Is Your Life, Supermarket Sweep, The Apprentice and... Geordie Shore.

Some work, some don't.
