You know for the longest time i said that the end of America was coming; that we were slowly devolving into a third world country. But i was wrong. Today is when the end truly started. I'll let this article explain what i mean:

Im sure there are better articles covering i just posted the first thing i saw. I heard about this on the news and its pretty much been the topic of the day all over the radio. For you lazy people who didnt bother to read it i'll sum it up; basically the California school board wants to recognize "Ebonics" as a foreign language in order to "better" teach students. I want to know how this will be better. Isn't the whole point of english class to teach students NOT to speak like this? To PREVENT speaking like this? Now a lot of people have been getting this confused. They are NOT teaching ebonics, just recognizing it as a second language so those students can get "special" treatment. Same as they do with students who really do speak a foreign language such as SPANISH. All this will do is encourage students to talk like this. Dont get me wrong im all for free speech. Hey if they're around thier friends just having a good time, they should talk how they want. Hell when im out with my friends i cuss like a goddamned sailor. But you know what? Once it becomes "Big people" time i shape up. Be it school, business, whatever, i talk like a professional adult should. Now don't get me wrong im not trying to be a hypocrite because im sure i have many grammatical mistakes in this here post but give me a break, im in college, im still learning. I dont believe this will help anything, it will only worsen the situation, and as far as im concerned, its only a money thing. They do this just so they can get more government grants into the school so they can line thier own pockets. Its sad when the responsibility and development of a another persons future becomes nothing but a money game. I was wrong before. TODAY is the beginning of the end. Goodbye america, you will be missed.
 
Wtf is this bull****?! Just because some gangsta wannabe black kid can't talk proper English, we have to change classes so that we can make this talk another language. That's BS. They talk that garbage outside the school enough. I do not want to go to college for 4 years listening to that crap. I avoided it through high school, and I will avoid it now.

say its rediculous but it will happen. No empire in history has remaind the dominant super-power. Right now America is the Dominant country but its declining. So you should say its REDICULOUS as the thought of you not believing that.
 
The very concept of changing the English language to suit a bunch of idiots' slang-talk, regardless of race is utterly and dispicably appalling. Not to mention that "affirmitive action" reason they attempted to throw in there is just plain BS. This affirmative action crap is going too far. People have to learn how to talk properly, or at least make an effort. We can not afford to recognise slang-talk as a distinctive language; it's a cop-out for being lazy.

I could basically have said "ditto" to everything Rick posted, but I felt that more needed to be said.

What kind of time frame are you talking about? Also, do you know what third world country is like? It's going to take a lot for the U.S., the richest country in the world to turn into a country poorer than North Korea, Cuba, etc. It will probably require a full scale nuclear warfare. If you had said that the U.S. economy would be reduced to a size of Canada's, G.B.'s, Italy's, Spain's, etc. it'd be more believable. The U.S. turning into a third world nation? Yes, it's also possible a comet might hit earth someday, killing us all.

Do you realize the debt america is in? Do you realize the over-population we're having? Do you realize the um-employment we have? Do you realize the illegal immigration we have? Do you realize the increasing crime rate we have? Do you realize the increasing failure rate we have? Im not here to argue this point but america is declining. Yes it will take a long time for us to be third world, hence the word i used; SLOWLY. But it WILL happen.

None of those are major problems. This is one of the problems "third world" nations have.... NO FOOD. You know, the kind of problems that stops people from surviving. Also, according to your argument, every country will be a third world country some day. What is your point?

America is TOO generous. Our damn money isn't even backed by anything but "trust." We pay MORE for our imports than we charge for our exports. We let WAY more illegal immigration than any other country. Thousands of hard working americans are losing thier jobs to illegal immigrants. Hell, we cant even keep social security in tact. We can't even take care of our own people, but we're spending our money, and our man-power to take care of others. Do you realize the amount of homeless in this country? The amount of people ACTUALLY starving? Everyone america may not be starving but a hell of a lot are. We're sending what used to be really good paying jobs overseas, to THIRD WORLD countries nonetheless, putting thousands of americans out of work. Im not trying to sound un-american, im as patriotic as the next guy, i stand up for the anthem at baseball games, at this point we are still the best country in the world, but we are declining, and if you cant see that, then you are blind to the politics of the U.S.

First of all, I am all for protecting the borders. High unemployment is due to the illegal immigrants picking berries and working at fast food? :lol: I would love it, if our neighbors from Mexico can come to the States legally to take jobs that not many Americans want. But I am 100% against the illegals. I've been bashed for saying this before in this forum, but as far as I'm concerned, illegals are exactly that, illegals.

People starving in America? What are you on? If you have half a brain, you couldn't starve in this country if you tried! Only exceptions are dependents, who can't take care of themselves. Go to a poor country, tell them you're starving in the environment that Americans live in, they will laugh at you in your face. If you're starving in the U.S., I don't think it's the country or the government, that's your problem.

Schools are the second foundation after ones family to prepare the next generation.If you allow schools to take up such dumb a*s action,it will at one point down the road turn around and BITE you in the ass :sly: .When these SO CALLED students are done with their schooling,who in the hell will hire them? If they can't speak proper English.And that will,in time, lead to more unemployment,more crimes,more goverment taxes,so that these DUMB basterds can eat.
It all fits togather,it might not happen today or tomorow,or not even in our life time,but it's coming.........I have met some Americans,and in talking to them about schools,found out that some scary things :nervous:

thats screwed up.. so basically, they're going to totally contradict theirself by telling some students to speak normal english, and others to speak slang? I think this could deprive the students. Maybe they want to learn proper english. I am totally against this. And the claim that America will be 3rd world. we may not be the superpower forever, but it doesn't mean we're going to be 3rd world.

I think people who are in the US illegally should be deported. Pronto. There are people who want to give them driver's licenses and healthcare benefits and that's a crock of nonsense as far as I’m concerned.

But if an American doesn't want to lose his/her job to someone who is willing to work for less money (regardless of their immigration status), then they should be willing to do a better job or accept less pay. That’s just simple competition and competition is what America is about.

As for outsourcing to other countries, that's fine with me too. Why would you as a consumer subsidize someone who wants double the money for the same work?

And as far as unemployment goes, the current US unemployment figure is roughly 5.0%. By way of comparison, here are the rates in other industrial countries: Germany – 12.6%, France – 10.2%, Canada – 6.7%, Japan – 4.8% and UK – 4.7% --their lowest in decades.

It’s not too bad, really. Much closer to Japan and the UK than your other major industrialized countries.

America is not really in danger of a long term decline anymore than it was 50 or 100 years ago. There were people who thought the country and indeed the whole world was done for in the 1930s, yet look what happened in 20 years? The biggest challenge for America in 2005 is absorbing the huge economic costs of the terrorism age, which include much increased federal spending and potential damage to the economy through future attacks. That will hurt much, much more than some silly language program.

And speaking of the Ebonics thing.. that's soo like.. 10 years ago.

as i said im sure there was a better article and there was. i replaced the link with one that was written on the 17th. This article was written in the same school district where this is happening. This was an issue yesterday because from what i understand this has already taken affect.

Personally I find it amusing that someone who bemoans the degradation of language cannot spell a fairly simple 10-letter word. Twice. WITH MORE EMPHASIS THE SECOND TIME.

as i said i wasnt trying to be a hypocrite because i knew i had some errors too. And im really not concerned with you pointing them out. Misspelling the word ridiculous and saying 'Dat homie be trippin' are two very different things.
 
When I (often) make light fun of the American version of English, with your missing Us ("Colour", "Armour"), missing ligated Os and As ("foetus", "faeces", "manoeuvre"), revowellings ("tyres"), respellings ("jail") and bizarre neologisms ("fawcet", "hood", "trunk", "most winningest") I'm told that US English is an evolution of English and, as such, is every bit as valid a language.

Your language is evolving still, fo' shizzle. You like it as it is and dislike the changes to it - guess what? I like English as it is and dislike the US English changes to it, ma nizzle.

It stands to reason - in just 200 years your language has made many, many changes to the original. The changes are continuing to this day, evidently, blood. Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine.
