You all want to get better?

You want a challenge?

Go to the Weekly Race Series.

It's the original "weekly" anything.

Starting over 2 years ago, we ran GT3 for 105 weeks.
Starting only 17 weeks ago we are now doing some great stuff with GT4.

The competition is for real and the races are always fun. 👍

Trust me, if you want to fill that gap of "what else can I do", then you need to check out the WRS.

OLR racing might not be for everyone but it is certainly for many of us.

Now regading the pd cup in gt4. :(
I was shocked to see that you could mod a car and still enter it in the races.
Suddenly the series went from imtimidating to plain old easy. :indiff:

Maybe PD was trying to do us a favor?
User friendly is always good right?

Thing is, even when we struggled to win, the PD series provided us with lessons as well as a challenge.
Now it just provides us the chance to see a S-tune Z run against a bunch of weaklings. :irked:

My question for you all is this...
What do you run in the PD cup for a challenge?

As someone said before, having a good race is not up to the game- its up to you.
Racing any series with an overkill car is easy, so what car makes the PD series fun and challenging?

I bet the FF cars are great contenders. :dopey:
The TRD celica or the Integra Type R. 👍

I know the ITR is one of the AI cars used... Maybe that's a sign.
Is "PD cup" slang for daily driver practice?

Let me know what you all think.
And of course, if you want to answer that you better answer the question posed in the first post. :mischievous:

Were you disappointed with the PD cup's difficulty?
&
What car have you/ would you drive to make the PD cup more competitive?

The only car reported getting 200 a-spec for this series is, unfortunately, the Dodge RAM - and winning in the RAM is not easy.

I would be very interested to know what sort of points people are getting awarded for different cars. My short list of possible contenders includes the Elise Type 72 and 3000GT (not sure which). However I would be surprised if these have not been tried already and I doubt they yeild 200 points.

With GT3, you'll learn how to drive.. really well, especially that you have to complete the S-Licences in order to complete the game. That is so cool.. like you can separate the Man from the boys.

And where the h*ll is ROME circuit???
No way Jose. Completing S-Licenses doesn't seperate much anyone from anything. Golding the S-licenses seperates the men from the boys. Anyone can pass it. Anyone with basic racing/driving knowledge anyhow

My thoughts exactly..

In GT3 I almost GAVE UP on playing because it got so hard...in Gt4 I blew past everything easily! GT4 is nothing compared to GT3 difficulty-wise.

This is indeed true.. I admit I'm not that good (as in godlike) just decent and I passed each license test from B to S in just a single day (just 6 golds here, 14 silver there, and the rest are bronze) compared to GT3 which took me about 8 days to complete (damn S license :ouch: )..

I konw you won't do this, but go back to GT3 with a fresh game and do the licences. I would bet it doesn't take you 8 days again. If GT3 was your first exposure to GT then a few days to get the licences is pretty normal. It takes time to get good at the GT series. Most of the tests are almost identical anyway.

I am sure there are plenty of people out there who are reading this thinking they must be really slow because they struggle on GT4. When you haven't played the game it takes a while to get used to the physics and the way the cars react. Once you get good, you don't easily forget. Kinda like skiing - first time out just keeping the skies straight is a nightmare! I still remember my first experience of GT1 and couldn't for the life of me get used to the physics. Once i got that down, the rest was about the challenges the game gave you. Unfortunately now, most of those challenges are self imposed (200 pt races etc.), rather than where the game challenges you directly (a la M34).

I did the licenses again after I finished GT3 just to prepare for the licenses at GT4.. Didn't took me that long. What I'm trying to say in my post was the time for bronze in GT4 was kind of easy to attain (to me) compared to the gold licenses in that same test that's why I managed it in a single day (I just wanted to pass). I might now go for gold when I finished the driving missions..

I for one will never understand why that's unfortunate... :irked:
Self-imposed challenges are how these kind of games SHOULD BE! No better way to reach a wide audience of differing skill levels and enhancing replayability than self-imposed challenges.

The only thing that's unfortunate is the difficulty in setting up a well balanced, self-imposed challenge. :indiff:

Oh, and Moloch... technically the RAM is very easy to get 200p in. route did the old "self-imposed" thing and left it stock. He could have completely upgraded the HP (and who knows what else) and still received 200p. What kind of fool would DO such a thing? :dopey:

However, it is true...

Creating a reasonable challenge in the PD Cup is a major pain the butt.

The best non-RAM car I could find was the Honda Element @240+hp against the S2000 for 149p a race. Those were all hard. But I know perfectly that know one *wants* to drive the Element... except... me apparently.

The Elise 72 and Mits 3000GT sound like decent choices. Might be worth a try.

For me getting 100% used to be a worthwhile conquest - but i guess, now that it is no longer all that difficult (more of a long slog) i don't feel that i have accomplished as much. Finishing a hard game is always more rewarding than finishing an easy one. I know "finishing" is only one part of the game, but i feel it should be a significant one.

I guess for me, i don't view GT as being one of "these kind of games". For me it is a genre unto itself - setting new standards. For me it used to be a challenge, but it seems it has become progressively easier.

Anyway, who needs a wide audience with varying skill levels... ;)

Check my sig, I "finished" the game, but that's only technically speaking. I only have around 29,000 A-Spec points. Personally, I won't feel like the game is "finished" until I have around 50,000, because I know there are races I did that I didn't deserve to win, because either I B-Specced it or I used a huge and unneccessary power advantage. If you don't feel satisfied with you "finishing" GT, then go back to those 10 point races you won and try to win them in at least a 100 pt race.

As for the AI in the game, I know its supposed to be friendly for beginners too, but seriously PD, you can at least have a difficulty setting in options or something. The AI sucks. If I'm racing an F1 against another F1, I expect a challenge. If I'm driving an NSX against an NSX, I expect a challenge. I dont want to pull out an LMP and whoop an F1 just because my opponents suck so bad... it just doesnt seem very realistic

playing the digital cup right now... uhm... lemme rephrase that:

b-speccin' the digital cup right now. I wanted to try out my black R92 nissan, so I gave it fresh oil and rigidity refresher. bought all available tires, then tried to enter this race.

i'm up against

subaru impreza prodrive
audi s3 '02
honda integra type R
toyota corolla runx
honda fit

yaaaawn....

i'm looking forward to running this race again with a totally-stock car soon. I didn't expect this to be so... underwhelming considering that i had no intentions of "cheating" by using a group c car.

yaaaawn...

I tried this race yesterday...... what a poor mix of cars
Merc SL 55 AMG 02
Subaru Imp sti prodrive 01
Honda CR-X SiR 90
Honda Jazz 1,4 01
and Fiat Barchetta bla bla bla Due 00

I drove my M3 04 stock and got 4 A-points!!!! Whats the point with that mixed lineup???? realy boring to just have one car to race against

Uncle Harry is seeking revenge on PD for generating such a lame mix of entries.
I am going to 200 A spec point it using the Dodge Ram.
And I will feel no guilt.

racing this now with a completely stock '98 300zx... its a walkover. might restart when i finish the series using a FF car like the fiat coupe.

Yep you right, the Polyphony Digital Cup is an annoying cup, its so hard to find a good line up even with Smallhorses list of lineups, it is poor in comparison with GT3's one. You can win in with basically any 200+hp stock car with good driving, even a tuned lightweight car can win outright. But if you want to do it B-Spec its so easy to get money in that championship, but it is so hard to get 200 A-Spec point races with the lineups you get.

Anyway the prize car of the Opera Performance S2000 '04 car is a good one, its nice in stock form with some tuning and a good car if you tune it with the best parts even without power upgrades. With some tinkering, it is a good lightweight car to face in some of the Endurances races like the Grand Valley Speedway Endurance.

But your right, I am disappointed that this championship is not very good except for the prize car you win.

By the way, you have got title wrong, its not POYPHONY its Polyphony just to let you know.

My biggest problem with the PD cup is that even if you want to make it a challenge it is near impossible.

I haven't finished it yet, because all of the times I tried, I either had a car that was too fast for the competition or there was one "rabbit car" that was too fast for me (and the rest of the field). In all cases I got bored.
The compromise would be a car that's competitive with the rabbit car, but that's just not enough fun. Anyway, next time I'll try and go for this compromise, using SH's list.

The race in GT4 is a let down, and i also miss a few courses from GT3, just because they had variety, made things a little interesting if you used them right.
