Anyone know of any really good covers? Here's a little list of ones I can think of.

Rage Against the Machine - Cypress Hill's How I oculd Just Kill a Man
Orgy - New Order's Blue Monday (what a timeless cover, sounds fresh every time I hear it).
Social Distortion - Psychadelic Furs' Pretty in Pink and Johnny Cash's Ring of Fire and CCR's Bad Moon Rising
O.A.R. - Bob's Stir it Up
Save Ferris - Dexy Midnight Runners' Come on Eileen
Authority Zero - Zappa's Mexican Radio (best cover of all time)
Gob - Rolling Stones' Paint it Black (so many attempts, none this good)
DJ Sammy - Bryan Adams' Heaven (give them credit, they totally messed that song up)
Goldfinger - Nina Hagen's 99 Red Balloons (I've heard it a quidribillion times though)
Iron Maiden - ???'s Phantom of the Opera
Nirvana - David Bowie's The Man Who Sold the World
Axis of Justice - U2's Where the Steets Have no Name
Green Day - Operation Ivy's Knowledge
Joey Ramone - Luois Armstorng's (?) What a wonderful World

Nightwish - Phantom Of The Opera ;)
KoRn - Another Brick In The Wall (well...the music is half decent...the vocals are horrible)
Goldfinger - 99 Red Balloons
RATM - How I Could Just Kill A Man
The Crystal Method - Magic Carpet Ride (more of a remix...close enough, though)
Children Of Bodom - Oops! I Did It Again (yes, thei really did cover a Britney Spears song)
Fall Out Boy - Roxanne
Motorhead - Louie, Louie
DHT - Listen To Your heart
EVH - Little Wing (I'm pretty sure it was EVH)

MM - Tainted Love... (Hey - Ask HATEKORE - He'll agree I'm sure  )

It IS indeed a great cover...

Ohh... Tallica - "Whiskey in the Jar" is another great cover...

Integra Type R
Puff Daddy - I'll Be Missing You (again, more of a remix...but still close enough) is another good one. 👍
That's not a cover - not even close.. It's like saying "Ice Ice Baby" is a cover of " Under Pressure"....

Integra Type R
:grumpy:

At least it has the chorus from the original, unlike Ice Ice Baby. :D

And he DID crash his bike... Please.. He even stole THAT from Vanilla Ice...

Iron Maiden's Phantom of the Opera is not a cover. It was written by Steve Harris.

So the world-renowned opera is really a spinoff a Maiden song? Didn't think so...

Listen to your Heart :P Title track on my brother's super-techno-driving-beatz CD in his Golf.

I always say that Gun's cover of Cameo's Word Up is excellent. Muse's cover of Nina Simone's Feeling Good is a work of genius.

I saw The Magic Numbers in concert last night, and they did a top-class cover of Beyonce's Crazy. And I did once hear a Celtic skiffle band called Skubie Dubh do a simply jaw-dropping cover of Bomb the Bass's Bug Powder Dust, but I'd be very surprised if anyone else here heard it, since there were only about 200 people in the room at the time.

John Mayer Trio does an very cool cover of Hendrix's Wait Until Tomorrow.

How about the classic Hendrix cover of All Along the Watchtower? Maybe Dylan covers shouldn't count.

Jimi Hendrix - All Along The Watchtower
Very much agreed. Both the Jimi Hendrix and Bob Dylan versions are great, but I might have to edge over onto Jimi for this one.

I have an Yngwie Malmsteen "rares" album, which is full of great covers. My favourite would definitely have to be Beethoven's 5th Symphony. On guitar, it is absolutely amazing.

Other good covers on this album include Ozzy Osbourne's Mr. Crowley, AC/DC's Back In Black, ABBA's Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!, Aerosmith's Dream On, and although not exactly a cover as such, but he does a guitar rendition of the theme song for the game Zelda. Very cool album.

More covers:
1. Jeff Buckley - Hallelujah (originally by Leonard Cohen)
2. Pantera - Planet Caravan (originally by Black Sabbath)
3. Pearl Jam - Wish You Were Here (Live) (originally by Pink Floyd)
4. Guns 'N' Roses - Knockin' On Heaven's Door (originally by Bob Dylan)
5. Santana - Black Magic Woman (originally by Fleetwood Mac)
6. Devolved - Battery (originally by Metallica)
7. Dream Theater - Achilles Last Stand (originally by Led Zeppelin)
8. Cream - Crossroads (originally by Robert Johnson)
9. Jeff Buckley - Back In N.Y.C. (originally by Genesis)
10. Quiet Riot - *** On Feel The Noize (originally by Slade)

Wow, I didn't know All Along The Watchtower and Come On Feel The Noize were covers. Who did the original of All Along The Watchtower?

Some really good songs in this thread. 👍

My favorites off the top of my head:

Oasis - "You've Got To Hide Your Love Away" by The Beatles
Joe Satriani - "Sleepwalk" by ???
Robert Palmer - "Mercy Mercy Me/I Want You" by Marvin Gaye
Lenny Kravitz - "American Woman" by Guess Who

I also love the countless covers done by the early Beatles.

Even though I like Jimi's version of "Watchtower" I like the way Dave Matthews Band does it better. They used to close their shows with it. But, my all-time favs are as follows....

Gene Simmons - When You Wish Upon a Star (Disney)
Cardigans - Iron Man (Black Sabbath)
Local H - Toxic (Britney Spears)
Ben Folds - Tiny Dancer (Elton John)
Garth Brooks - Dixie Chicken (Little Feat)
Radiohead - Nobody Does It Better (Carly Simon)
Nine Inch Nails - Stone Cold Crazy (Queen)

Two of my favorite bands do huge quantities of cover tunes (the Grateful Dead and Phish), so I'll leave them out of this equation.

The best cover band in existence is Dread Zepplin, which is a Led Zepplin cover band doing all of the songs in a Reggae style, fronted by an Elvis impersonator. They're so much fun.

My favorite single cover song would probably be Stevie Ray Vaughn's cover of Superstition, originally by Stevie Wonder.

(I think Bob Dylan has been covered more than any other musician-- and rightfully so)

Sleepwalk as in the slowdance song from the '50s?
I think it was 50's. Was there an original version in movie, "La Bamba"? Leo Kottke might have done a cover of it also.

Edit:

Radiohead - Nobody Does It Better (Carly Simon)
I gotta get this!

Another couple I like,

Red Hot Chilli Peppers - Higher Ground (Stevie Wonder)

Kula Shaker - Hush (Not sure who did the original though!)

Now, there is a band I haven't heard in a while! I just looked over three of their CDs, but I don't see that song. :(

A song is not a cover unless it's done by someone else first. Iron Maiden wrote that song, based on the 1911 book by Gaston Leroux, so it is not a cover. Unless Gaston Leroux wrote exactly the same song, with the same tune and lyrics, and performed it on Le top of le pops in 1911!

Is the Rime of the Ancient Mariner a Samuel Taylor Coleridge cover? Is Where Eagles Dare an Alistair Maclean cover?

Muse's cover of Nina Simone's Feeling Good is a work of genius.

Agreed, one of my favorites from them.

Jimmy Enslashay
Jeff Buckley - Hallelujah (originally by Leonard Cohen)

Buckley's version is AMAZING. 👍 👍

I'm currently drawing a blank on cover songs right now, but one does come to mind: Ryan Adams' cover of Wonderwall (originally by Oasis).
