Ha.. Just remembered a Full Album of great covers !

"Leningrad Cowboys - Happy Together"

Bloody Brilliant Album of American Classics..

I'm pretty sure Sleepwalk was originally done by Santo and Johnny. I love Pantera's Planet Caravan, probably the longest Dimebag solo. :D

Now, there is a band I haven't heard in a while! I just looked over three of their CDs, but I don't see that song. :(

I only have Kollected, the Best of Kula Shaker, and it's on that.
Yeah, it's a blast from the forgotten but fairly recent past!:)

I've seen them twice - They ROCK !... (Rocked ?) Anyway - Hush is also, and exclusively (bar Kollected), on he "Hush" EP....

Green Day - sweet home alabama

:D

Green Day has some really funny onstage covers (but someone else sang the 'Alabama' rendition) including Dancin' with Myself, Shout, Working for the Weekend, Big Yellow Taxi (from Pinhead Gunpowder), an amazing version of We Are the Champions.

As for Iron Maiden, I'm getting mixed up with what I had heard. I thought that I had heard the melody from another rendition of the same piece (one of the several movies or the musical).

Tool - No Quarter
Any cover by Led Zeppelin, since they make it their own song.

Tool - Spasm (Peach Cover)
Evergreen Terrace - Zero (Smashing Pumpkins)
Megadeth - Paranoid (Black Sabbath)
Disturbed - Land of Confusion (Genesis)
Howie Day - Karma Police (Radiohead)...the last lines are full of so much emotion.
A Perfect Circle - Imagine (John Lennon)
Arctic Monkeys - Love Machine (Girls Aloud)

I'm sure there are loads and loads more I could list.

The Brothers Johnson - Strawberry Letter 23
Teenage Fanclub - Take The Skinheads Bowling (theme from Bowling For Columbine, original by Camper Van Beethoven) and Like A Virgin
Soft Cell - Tainted Love (one of the most original cover versions I've heard)

Obviously not the best ones, but some that aren't already listed:

Marylin Manson - Sweet Dreams, Tainted love, Personal Jesus, too much to list here. I usually like his covers. Minus the singing bits, that is.
The Ataris Boys of summer
No doubt It's my life
Limp bizkit Behind blue eyes. (you have to hear the original version... :P) oh, and Georges Micheal's Faith...
Seal Fly like an eagle

If you're searching for covers for specific songs / groups, this is a great site:

I can't remember if anyone has mentioned these guys, but Ten Masked Men are a Death Metal cover band that cover anything from Britney Spears to Ricky Martin, from Sting & The Police to Eiffel 65. Very fun to listen to for anyone, even non-fans of Death Metal. Done very well.

Also, if you're a Black Metal fan, check out Graveworm's cover of R.E.M's Losing My Religion. Fairly well done, in my opinion, with a fair bit of emotion thrown in there. It's not just a novelty.

*Thanks to Diego for the last one.

I really liked:Marylin Manson's "Sweet Dreams", Limp Bizkit's "Faith", Seal's "Fly Like an Eagle". I was trying to remember a great Steve Miller Band cover, it was the "Fly like an Eagle", but I couldn't remember. :D

Manic Street Preachers - Suicide Is Painless (The Theme From MASH) (Not sure who wrote the original)

Excellent rendition!
I have not heard that one, but that reminded me of another one by Manic Street Preachers, "Rain Keeps Falling On My Head". It's beautiful. Originally by Burt Bachrach, I believe.

On the way to hoop tonight, I was playing "Joker" by Fatboy Slim, which of course was originally performed by Steve Miller Band(Mr. Miller is a genius!). I like that one a lot, too.

Find it or download it, it's on their "best of" album called Forever Delayed
Well worth a listen. :)
I just heard the sample on Amazon.com. It sounds pretty good. I will try to get my hands on it, but unfortunately, my only online source iTunes don't have it. :grumpy: I was going over the track listing on this "Forever Delayed". I forgot how much I used to like this band. I think I'm gonna start listening to them again, so thanks! :)

I wouldn't consider that a cover, since Nobuo Uematsu wrote the songs, and he is in The Black Mages.

Yeah, but these are metal versions of the songs. Besides, no one else in TBM wrote the songs and Nobuo only plays the keyboard. :D

Tool - "No Quarter" by Led Zeppelin
Metallica - "Turn The Page" by Bob Dylan?
Jimi Hendrix - "All Along The Watchtower" by Bob Dylan
In Flames - "Everything Counts" by Depeche Mode

Excellent rendition!

Excellent, I'll have to check them out since I once tried to 'cover' an Uematsu song myself (on the gee-tar)...

Ryan Adams "Love Sick Blues" org. Hank Williams Sr.
John Mayer "Message In a Bottle" org. The Police/Sting
Blind Melon "Out On the Tiles" org. Led Zeppelin
Wallflowers "We Could Be Heroes" org. David Bowie
Wallflowers "Into The Mystic" org. Van Morisson
Dar Williams "Everybody Know This Is Nowhere" org. Neil Young
A Perfect Circle "Pets" org. Porno For Pyros
U2 "All Along The Watchtower" org. Bob Dylan It's harder to find a bad cover of this song then a good one...
Counting Crows "Big Yellow Taxi" org. Joni Mitchel I can also appreciate the fact that they released it as a hidden song instead of pawning it off as a normal song on their album...
Metallica "Stone Cold Crazy" org. Queen
Colin James "These Arms of Mine" org. Otis Redding
Smashing Pumpkins "Landslide" org. Fleetwood Mac. Comes off of the greatest Pumkins album Pisces Iscariot... Brilliant album!

I totaly agree with Ryan Adams' version of Wonderwall... Amazing! As well as several/many of they other songs that have been mentioned here already...

Though, on the subject of covers, as much as I like em, I don't like how much airplay they get these days. Radio stations should be boosting the original verions of these songs more then the remakes IMHO, with the exception of Jimi's version of Watchtower, which he made his own and probably did more to boost it's popularity then Bob did in the first place and is truely considered a classic... And Bob was more of a songwritter any how. But come on, even I could get a #1 hit if I covered Stairway To Heaven... Promote original thought and music!!!
