Would really love to buy a Mk2 GTi but unfortunately they never sold them as right hand drive over here in Japan. Seen some really nice restored models in the UK but the shipping and road registration would double their price :irked:

You can pick up average ones here in the UK for as little as £800, and by average I mean generally good nick, probably not a lot of rust, solid engine etc, just not concours. As you say though, by the time you exported it you'd be paying silly money.

WOW that's alot of miles but they will never die on you unless you never to the maintenance. What color?

Yep,mine is Pearl grey,my dad has a Mk2 GTI 8v White,and a MK2 G60 black.

My TDI is identical like this:

Here's a shot from one of my first autocrosses last year. I plan on ordering some enkei RPF-01s and a set of Hankook RS3s sometime soon so I can get the boat anchors and all-seasons off the car. Other than that, I plan on staying in G-Stock, so I might get a set of Bilstein HDs but that's about it.

Very nice cars everyone, keep it.

And freedom, your not going to do any engine mods?

Nope. I want to stay in the G-Stock class to avoid spending to much money and I've got plenty of power for autox already anyway. Anything I do under the hood would put me in a different class and make me uncompetitive without spending thousands of dollars more. I already get wheelspin with stock power, though the OEM all-season tires probably aren't helping much on that front. The only engine mod I'm really considering is a catch-can. I *might* get a catback, but I'd rather just spend that money on better brake pads or a new set of tires. In addition, I've got a few more years of warranty so I don't want to do anything that may cause headaches at the dealer. On top of all that this is my first car with any ounce of performance, so I want to get a handle on performance driving before I start to change things too much. "The cheapest performance upgrade is seat time".

Hopefully sometime in the next few years I'll be able to buy a miata, S2000 or an old 944 for autox/weekends and I'll be able to tinker with that.

I'm liking where you heading man, and are you in a series or just racing for fun?

Just my local car club. It's a series, but at the end of it all I don't think the winner in each class wins much of value. It's mostly just bragging rights and fun of games. 👍
So in that sense, I could do some things under the hood and it wouldn't really matter. But, it gives me a reason not to spend money, and it's nice to see my name in third place instead of 8th or something. :)

Just went to my local area SCCA's Solo2 school last weekend with my GTI. Tons of fun, and I agree wholeheartedly what freedom said, run the car stock until I get better as a driver. I know if I am a better driver there are more times in the car and I need to be able to extract that myself...

I just posted this same pick in another thread, but here are my wife's VW's.

Great looking VWs there, they looks very well taken care of, their colors suit them well too. Any more pics?

I'm sure she has some more, but that's the only one she has that I could find to post. The Thing is actually in the shop now and she's trying to decide on a paint color for it. I think it might be the end of my days with the Thing, because I think she is going to go with a crazy metalic pink color, with zebra seat covers, and a zebra roll bar cover. I'm sure she'll look good in it, but I'm not so sure about myself. It's hers though so she can do whatever she wants to with it. She leaves me alone about my sim setup and RC cars, so she can do whatever she wants with her cars. I wish she would do the beetle though, because I actually like the Thing.

The beetle isn't in the greatest shape, it has a little more work to be done to it, but the bus is really nice, it's by far in the best shape of the 3.

Those all look like their in great shape based on that photo. While I personally wouldn't go for pink/zebra for the Thing, with a car like that I think you can pretty much do whatever you want to it and end up with a cool car.

volks are rare here, now. last time I saw a Thing was sometime in the mid to late 70's (and it was bright orange). the bug looks like it just rolled out of the Wolfsburg factory.

Nice cars guys 👍

Here is mine, more can be found in the thread in my sig.

Haha, nice, I had you look at your thread to figure it out. I had no idea what that was. Cool car.

Queensland and Florida are both "The Sunshine State"?

Almost two months now I've had a GTI. I love it so far. It's got plenty of torque and stuff to make me happy. Fuel mileage and cheap insurance push it over the top. Glad I took a dive and went for it.

Few days after I picked it up.

As it sits now...

Sweet! That's gotta be my favourite Golf front end, looks neat. Congrats. 👍

thanks dan, i love mk2's
gives me a smile every day driving it to work.

it sure stands out here in out car park (i work for Ford so everyone has ford lease cars )👍

Heres some pics of my mk1 GTI '83. Not had it long, its more of a track car at the moment. Its fate is still undecided, its fun to drive but the noise, the fuel consumption, and the vibrations are hard to bear for long. The roads around here are pretty poor, particularly my route to work, and the poor thing is literally being shaken to pieces. I may revert it back to injection and get a slightly softer suspension setup to make it a bit more road-friendly.

Oh that and a quieter bloody exhaust, lol. I must be getting old.

No, they made quad headlight GTI's. In fact most of the ones I know with single headlights have been converted. Im not 100% sure but I think all mk1 GTIs, at least all 2nd generation mk1s, sold in the UK where twin headlight. Twin=quad, you know what I mean.

I'm sure someone here will know a bit more about it.
