I have a question... What's with the huge black pile of bird crap on the windscreen when I'm doing time attack???

I must admit it's a nice touch of detail and im sure that sometimes you do get bird crap on the windscreen but hardly something that I would put in a racing game and the birds must be huge!!!

its not that..its something we swedish call snus. ;)

Hahaha that made me lough :D
Anyway it's not suposed to be a bird crap, it should be rubber from tyres of the cars in front of you (marbles) or insects splattering on the windscreen.

Ahhh... Well that makes a bit of sense however it seems way too much especially when I have no other cars on track and the fact that it's such a big splatter that it's like someone tossing gallons with oil.

First off, let me say this, I love this game, i love all racing games. This isnt me flaming the game or anything, just voicing a major problem im having, it might just be my aggressive driving style causing this aswell, and when i say aggressive, i mean i like to get to the front of the pack as fast as i can. And no, i dont go smashing into the A.I. to get ahead of them. But anyway...

The Main problem im having is the dam crashing, It seems like no matter how fast your going, if you even SLIGHTLY bump the A.I. in ANY way, your gonna spin out. Its actually gotten to the point where i cant even finish one of the races on a narrow track because either im slightly hitting the A.I and spinning, or theyre hitting me and as a result, i go spinning out again and theyre just fine. Its already hard enough to get some good clean laps in with the DS3 because of the dam input lag, but because of this dam crashing its ten times harder. Of course it makes it MUCH harder on the narrower tracks like Nordschliefe etc. We get it SMS, you worked hard on your precious Damage Model, but you didnt need to make the cars so light thats youll be able to show it off every 10 minutes...

Am i the only one that this frustrating situation is happening to, is it because of my driving style? or is anyone else having difficulties with bumping things and going spinning ?

Depends how you bump. The bump will upset your car, but that's to be expected. Often if you back off you can catch it, but that might be tough with a DS3 because you have to be quite accurate. I find that half the time I bump I manage to get away with it, and after that it's a toss up whether I go off, or the AI goes off, or we both do.

Basically, I think it's incentive not to touch. You can get away with rubbing sides mostly, but anything more than that leads to trouble, and it's very unpredictable who will be the loser in those situations.

Earlier i was driving my Corvette Stingray Works Converted in one of the classic muscle car races, my right front fender BARELY tapped his rear bumper and i went spinning off into the dirt and rolled, and we were only going maybe 100MPH. But like i said, it so hard to be incredibly accurate, especially when going high speeds or on a narrow track because of the steering input lag.

Also, no one seems to care that SMS said that 'Elite' mode is focused towards wheel users. Everyone just wants to put the setting to the hardest an expect to handle it brilliantly.
Sorry BPskeet, not having a go at you, but what mode are you playing and with what assists? Maybe low traction control would help things a bit?

Right now im using elite handling which should be fine since ive been playing racing games since the original NFS hot pursuit, and ive got traction control on low with everything else off.

Simple verdicts.

Graphics : Really quite good (PC)
Sounds : Average
Physics : Semi-Sim / Average - Not a simulator
AI : Too aggressive, i've not really had any cool racing yet, its hard to know what you're up against before you jump into a race, meaning its easy to take a car that is too fast. Aggressive AI makes max difficulty frustrating.
Gameplay : It's a cool game so long as you're prepared for a NFS title, and aren't expecting a sim.

Disapointed? Yeah i am as i was hoping for better physics and the sounds in the trailers were not the ingame sounds.

Surprised to see you dont rate the sound, almost everyone is saying it's the best sounding car game on console's... Im guessing the sound in sim PC games is excellent?

Quite far from it, I found the sounds in the game to be inconsistant with engines. The low rev sounds don't blend smoothly into the high rev sounds, and the tick over noise is really digital sounding, gear changes are clunky and the engine doesnt make all the right noises in the right places. Tyre noises in the game don't sound too convincing either.

GT5 sound engine is much smoother, though the sounds in GT5 have been way off the mark in a lot of cases, the smoothness in transition between low and high revs and with gear changes and the general tick over sound in most cars is much better, which is down to the sound engines quality. Though GT5 often is let down by below par samples or badly modelled car sounds. Some of the cars in Shift 2 sound great, but a whole bunch of them sound terrible, inconsistant.

I find the best sounds are found with the Codemasters games, they have the best of both worlds with a good sound engine alongside good sound samples. Dirt 2 and F1 2010 are fantastic. Exclusively on the PC some mods with Rfactor have amazing sounds where the authors have cleverly put together real car sound samples (which often can sound horrible in many cases but can be made to work) and managed to pull it off for what are probably the most hair raising awesome sounds ever. I think it was a certain popular NASCAR mod i played that just blew my mind... atleast the sounds did.

The AI adjusts the cars it takes based on your car. Also, if you keep winning it jacks up it's own difficulty. Meaning I usually win about three, then I end up in a race where the AI is just a little bit too fast for me and I end up in second or third, then it comes back down again. I had it on medium for a while but I put it up to hard this morning and it's been good.

I haven't had too much problem with aggressiveness so far, as long as I don't try and carve them up. They'll go a long way to not hit you, but if you leave them nowhere to go they'll do it. It's not perfect, but 4 out of 5 races I usually don't have any incidents.

This is PS3 though, so PC may be a little different.

The crashing and bashing can get frustrating. Especially tracks that are tight and start off with a hairpin. Not a gamebreaker though.

^ PC is the same. I have it on hard and the AI only hit me if I'm too aggressive or out of shape. I don't win every race, but will if I run a smooth and fast race. I love that you really have that pressure on not to make a mistake, as it should be to win on hard difficulty :)

I sold mine after an hour. What a piece of crap! I really was hoping SOMEONE would give PD a run for it's money. Oh well guess I spend the money and get into iRacing.

Nope not Disappointed at all, really think this game is great, it has fetched a Smile back to my face, which other racing games haven't in the past year or so.

Glad i did not listen to all the negativity about this game, and reserved judgement for myself. Playing with a DFGT wheel on a PS3 and i love it.

I think it's great! However, it is nothing to GT5 and there sre a few issues which have bugged me including the Crazy-Aggressive AI who have numerously shunted or tailslided me out on the last corner of the last lap. After 5 times in a row, it gets old very quickly. Other than that, the game is Great! Not GT5 standard, but still worth buying. The range of tracks is pretty much the main reason I bought it and I have to say, I'm not disappointed.

I don't find the AI too aggressive however what I find is that unless I get to the front in the first 2 corners the AI starts to pick up pace and goes on rails. no matter how fast I drive I can't catch up.
Now if I get to the front most times I start to leave the AI behind. There seems to be no in-between here.
Also I'm on elit and hard AI.

Also when the AI touch me I spin but I have tried to pit maneuver one of the AI cars and i got a flash back of GT 5.

The AI moved a little bit bit as soon as I started to spin the AI shot back to it's line and kept going.

I'm incredibly disappointed, i've given the game a chance but it's just too bad. I'm selling mine on ebay less than a day after I got it. 👎

The game is getting old on me, most cars have a similar driving feel. I would agree to most folks that says GT5 is a driving sim and shift2 is a racing sim, as i just realized this a huge compliment to GT5.

I'll keep this for those times when my friends drop by and want something exciting.

Hm...the more I play the more each car feels different. Almost like GT5, not quite like it, but the difference is there. Are you using elite+no assists at all?

Not dissapointed at all; why?

Because I didn't wait 5 years for it...
Didn't come into it expecting the second coming of Christ...
Knew it wasn't Forza, GT, or GTR2...
Don't/haven't convienced myself that GT5 is the bees knees...

Dissapointed beyond limits.

the only thing i liked was that if you dont buy a good clutch the car wont work at all on high gears.
and the tires break if you smash into walls.

the only thing i cared bout was drifting witch is complete ass.
Cars vobble.
Was hoping that i could make some cool bodykits. well there is 3 per car. BORING.

I wont give a company money that brings 30 fps racing to consoles and nearly no freedom of components on the pc.

the sound is horrible for me because my sound card doesnt use this DirectSound system they use.
i can have highest settings on grid with my pc well on this it lags, screentears and i have to lower it so bad that its not even enjoyable.

rushed game as everything else nowadays.

WHEN DOES UNDERGROUND 3 COME?????
