I disagree about the hardware lacking charisma and looking cheap. I think it's the best looking PlayStation hardware yet. If the PS3 is James Bond, then the PS4 is the monolith from 2001: A Space Odyssey. I'll take a sexy evolution-inducing monolith over a hairy womanizer pretending to be a spy any day of the week.
The lacking features will almost certainly be added eventually via firmware update.
But I'm indifferent about GT6 being on the PS3 instead of the PS4.
The HMDI and DOA issues amount to literally a handful of cases which is perfectly acceptable considering they've sold over 1 million consoles in 24 hours.
Sony lost money on every 'fat' PS3 they sold. Hence the slim versions. This wouldn't have been a successful business model for the PS4 so naturally they're going to cheapen the production costs. Doesn't look any worse than any other gaming machine out there - console or PC.
Whether they were loosing money or not on a console is beside the point I am making, the end result is the quality of the product feels much worse with the PS4 whether its down to production cost or not, its down. I guess my instinct on the PS4 is right then. If we've learned anything its that the quality and features only goes down as the production line continues. So don't be so sure about quality or features being added at a later date.
The HDMI issue is a result of poor build quality. Its not a design flaw, its that the build quality is so cheap there are inconsistencies in the materials.
You guys both obviously haven't seen the difference between trying to make something as good as you can and mass producing it. The plastic the PS4 is made of is like a whole set of toy cars for $1 at the discount store vareity. You can even see the ripples in the "shiny" part of the plastic and the rest of it just feels nasty.
PS3 in comparison was like a gem, because the materials were of the up most quality.

And on top of that PS3 at launch had all Card readers, FULL backward capability, all the media, CD, streaming, USB, etc functionality. Like I said it will be interesting to see how much worse the later ps4s will be made like if at all possible. No Disc drive and half a USB port?
Some people don't care about these things but I do. All I'm saying is I am very unimpressed with the PS4 at launch compared to the PS3 relatively speaking.
Its not just that. On top of this you have a reduction in the set of features. Big steps backward. It makes the narrowing graphical improvements which is the only thing the ps4 had going for it (with everything else going backward) that much more lack luster. That depends what games you're looking at. Besides, is there much difference between a PS3 and a high-end PC? Not when you compare the jump from a PS2 to a PS3. The increment in graphical improvement is narrowing between each generation.
[/quote]A worthwhile thing imo. This will improve the online and PS store beyond what the PS3 offered. The PS3 was notoriously behind the Xbox in the area, and the fact xbox gamers paid to use online was key to this.
I never cared for the lack of features ps3 had for online social stuff. It worked fine for me playing games. End result is now I just have to pay for it now. I never expected them to keep PSN free, I always knew it was "hi a we're new and going up against MS so our deals is better for now" thing. Just sayin meh.
