Anyone ever see an XJ220 in person?

I went to the Motortrend International Auto Show at Baltimore convention center on Sunday. And on the upper level of the building, they had a collection of various supercars like 360s, Gallardos, a Murcielago, a Countach, and a pair of Ford GT's amongst other things. But the thing that stood out the most and was drawing the most attention was a Jaguar XJ220. I've never seen one in person and it appeared that no one else had either. I lost count of how many times I overheard people say it was a Bugatti or a McLaren. This one appeared to be prepped for racing too, which made it even cooler. Of the 281 produced, none were officially sold in the United States (that I know of). So I was wondering, have any others been spotted in the US? It was for sale too. Only $250,000

To answer the question asked in the thread's title, no. XJ220s are incredibly, unfathomably rare. On my 'I hope one day I will see it' list up there with the McLaren F1. But of course I wouldn't consider seeing it in the way you did as actually 'seeing it' - it's got to be mingling with the SUVs and family sedans on the road where it belongs!

But of course I wouldn't consider seeing it in the way you did as actually 'seeing it' - it's got to be mingling with the SUVs and family sedans on the road where it belongs!

I saw an F1 on the road... ONCE, in Telluride. They are indeed an almost impossible sight.

As M5 said, none were sold in the US. However, many found their ways here. Even more, this car does not sell as well as one might think. The average price for a XJ220 is $200,000-$250,000. High to our standards, but not so much compared to the fact that Lamborghini Diablos are selling in that range as well.

DuPont Auto currently has 6 for sale; the TWR-like one of which has been on there for a year and a half now.

I was wrong, it's not $250K, it's $344,995 And this one isn't street legal, but maybe that's because it's a racing variant?

The same place also had an XJR15 race car for sale. Pretty cool.

XJ220's used to be offered pretty 'cheap' in England around 10 years ago. Especially the LHD ones. They were going for around GBP 100k if I remember correctly.

I went to the Birmingham NEC UK motorshow, and have a photo, albeit almost 20 years old now of one on the stand there somewhere.
I also saw one in the Stratton Rolls Royce / Jaguar dealership in Chester, for which the prospective owner had hired Oulton Park Circuit to test it out at, and gouged one side of it in an accident! It was on display in the shop window, with the undamaged side facing outwards though!

I've not seen one in the US, but strangely enough since RedTransAm mentioned it, there's an XJ15 for sale less than 1/2 mile from me here too!

There is a green XJ220 here in Adelaide Australia that was imported about 10 years ago, I have spotted once on the road and have viewed it racing wide open throttle in our Classic Adelaide road rally. A true favorite of mine.

XJ220's used to be offered pretty 'cheap' in England around 10 years ago. Especially the LHD ones. They were going for around GBP 100k if I remember correctly.

They still go for between £90k and £150k here in England (where most probably reside) You see a lot for sale with very low delivery milage, probably bought new by speculators. They may sound like a good buy but require a lot of work to recommission them, the fuel tanks need to be replaced due to deterioration of the liner and they can end up costing a fortune.

I've seen a couple on the road, most notably a nice British Racing Green one at Oulton Park. It was parked next to a Martini sponsored racing version which was being driven that day by Win Percy. I don't know if the green one was Percy's own road car or whether both racing and road XJ220's were owned by someone else who had just hired Percy to race the (ex-Italian GT series) Martini XJ220. They are a fantastic looking car in the flesh 👍

Price is higher than usual due to the modifications. Cars here currently came under the same contract that allows the MC12 & 959 to be here.

Same here, it wasn't the XJ220 as we know it, but the original V12 AWD show car (silver). If i remember rightly it was right next to the Ferrari stand the year (or year after) the F40 came out. There was a hell of a crowed in that part of the hall. I had a photo of it too, not sure where it is though. I think it was the same year that TVR showed the Tuscan as a road car before they canned it and made the Tuscan Challenge racer. Must have been what, '85?

There is apparently one that hangs around here in the Ada/Forest Hills area of town. I haven't seen it personally, but my brother and my father both swear upon it. This is of course in addition to the local Vector that had died in front of my house (while at work of course), two Carrera GTs, several Continentals, two Ford GTs (that I know of), as well as your various Lamborghini's and Ferrari's that you'll see in the aforementioned Ada/Forest Hills area and East Grand Rapids.

They'd be better off contacting Tom Walkinshaw Racing or Don Law Racing for parts. TWR made the cars for Jaguar and DLR are the people to see about restoration and servicing these days.

Seen the prototype V12, a pukka road car on the road, and also the rather sad looking matt blue crash car in the pound at Witley. I have a photo of one at Bloxham (H658KWL?) on my office cube wall at work.

They're still somewhat active, at least in Australia - last I heard TWR is a team owner in the V8 Supercars race series. It was their Formula 1 involvement that took them down though, not anything having to do with the Clio V6.

I've seen a couple at shows over the years. Most recently the MPH 07 show at the NEC.



It is an amazing looking car in the metal, absolutely stunning looking machine imo.

It was just as impressive as seeing one of these, though mainly because it was the first time I've ever seen a non-replica one anywhere.
