Anyone like GTO?

Better than what the rest of Pontiac's sheet metal looks like. GM will still find a way to ruin the interior, though. You do know it's a Holden Monaro in American clothes, right?

Heh, that's almost what my car would have looked like if my sister hadn't turned 16 in 1967... except it would have been a ragtop. And worth 10x as much as my 1967 Le Mans is.

I've driven one just like that. Totally badass. And I don't want to hear another word about how "drifting is the latest thing from Japan".

All the young people think it's trendy to love something that adults love that's from the past (like Hemi Dodge Rams that go no faster than the competition). Can anybody tell me why the old GTO is better than the present GTO - or even anywhere near as good? And if somebody does attempt to take this one on, please use phrases other than "history" and "reputation."

it all depends. for some, nothing can beat the raw power and agresiveness of a cool old muscle car. for some others, the new comfort levels and dependability of the new GTO is the shiznit. combine that with nearly as much power as that from the first GTO and add on 35 years of technology development and yeah, you have one cool new car. I dont have nothing against the new GTO, and I think that, even being a revamped monaro, its a cool car (I just don like its design... the front end is ugly) but the drivetrain is absolutely proven trough years. the aftermarket for this car is already HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE. the only area that sans development are aesthetic parts, but that will be cranked up faster than you can say SEMA. the LS1 is a super engine, the 6 speed a super tranny... everythiung in this car just rocks and works and can hold true to its numbers and performance. and it will give you 23 mpg. what else do you want?

if you are like me... yeah, the looks. :D
I'll swap the complete LS1, six speed, and all that suff into a 70 GTO Judge like the one posted by milefile and will be happy. other than that, no old GTO can beat any new one. technology just speaks too loud. they can be combined, tough...

It's like Harley Davidsons. They are over priced, noisy rattle traps. The Goldwing is a much better bike in every conceivable way, yet people still blow their money on a Harley. Why? Chrome. Metal. The sound.

So basically, superficial stuff not worth my time.

:D

And no, Super-Supra, I don't read anything you write about car styling. I'd bet only fools do.

Does anybody know what old, fully-restored ones sell for?

GTOs? Anywhere from $8-10,000 for a plain jane 1969 hardtop with automatic and high miles (probably the most common variety), to $60,000 for, say, a 1971 Judge convertible with 4-spd, Ram Air, low miles. Early models, '64 and '65, are pretty valuable too, especially ragtops or the 3x2-barrel TriPower setup. Assuming restored, clean, straight cars with metal-repaired panels, no Bondo.

The most expensive GTO I have ever seen or heard of is one in an Old Car Trader mag I picked up. I'll copy the add as I save all of my car mags.

The Rarest of the Rare
"1969 Pontiac GTO JUDGE Convt., only 108 built, only 29 with auto trans. and only 1 triple green, 400 RA lll, THM 400, 3.55 Posi, ps, pb, pw, pt, tilt, and more, full PHS documentation, full body off restoration, none better, all new or refurbished. $139,500 usd. obo. (Phone # and stuff here)"
Obviously this being the green one, and might I say it is absolutely beautiful in the picture. :)

Because it doesn't look like a Cavalier with a Grand Prix front end molded onto it.

And the new GTO won't be a "Mustang Killa" unless we're talking about V6's. It'll probably be on par with the newer GT's. Either way, the GT & V6 both have laughable performance.

The new GTO is pretty cool. There is no way that it will beat the 05 mustang gt. But cool never the less. It looks like an Acure TL, I see who hondas copying.

I've read that they are going to make a Judge concept version and possible production of the GTO in 06. I think that would be sweet.

I haven't seen all but one going down the freeway. They should be really popular here but I can't seem to find them.

'04 Dodge Dakota.

Bam!

Stfu. It's the first thing I looked at.

Any car produced now because of a nostalgic car seems really embarasing and a sad attempt to capture the past. Especially when it's really just another car that they have already been producing and they just changed it as an excuse to sell more cars.

Nick:rolleyes:

Good call. I was thinking Ford Ranger. But fine. Where else can you get 193bhp, a CD player, an alarm and keyless entry for $17700?

Checking the spec list, I'm depressed about this base Dakota - 2wd, 5-speed manual, rear-only ABS, AM/FM/cassette, black vinyl floor covering, and painted bumpers. It's not just depressing, it's scary - if the federal government didn't mandate it, we'd see no airbags on that thing.

The new GTO is all right, but I perfer the classic muscle cars' looks better. But I'm glad they kept the "muscle" part. Personally I like the looks of the new Mustang better. Although it's predicessors were better too.

S-10 with a V6, there 190hp but close enough, you can get CD, remote entry and 4x4 for about 17 g's

They're 180bhp, and they start at $24600 - a bit high.
