Are you a collector?

To the previously mentioned die-cast cars I'll also add stuff I collect in conjunction with my wife: lambs. From porcelain figures to plushes to a salt and pepper set, we should be closing to about 50 or so items and we are always looking for more, so that could be considered a collection too.

Also, as money allows since the stuff can get quite expensive, we're slowly forming a merchandise and figure collection of an anime show we're both fanboys of, Magic Knight Rayearth. Still small but we're getting there. Our first cell might be on it's way.

Didn't realise until I posted that this was a dead thread for over a year! :indiff:

Just shows how busy we collectors are collecting.

Nice to see and read about the currency. I'm into coins and bills myself, but you probably read about that in the thread already ...... :)

Collecting can also be an investment:

I'm still missing four:

http://hwcollectorsnews.com/2014-mustang-50th-anniversary

For sure I can surf the 'net for the ones I'm missing, but that would take away from the thrill of the find, as well cut into the investment (when taking into consideration postage and the mark-up.)

Wonder how much the complete set would be when Mustang celebrates its 75th.

Yes, I'm a collector. I have several diecast cars in my home, including some of rally cars.

I would like to collect more things like Doraemon, Medabots (I have only 2 of them- Metabee and Rocks) and Captain Tsubasa (like this one):

Oliver and Benji (Animated version made in 1983)

I used to collect WWII rifles and pistols especially Mosin Nagant rifles and Nagant pistols before I was married now with kids and wife they just collect dust in the gun safe LOL. I haven't bought a new one in about 8 years. I would like to start collecting again and finish my collection with a M1 Garand and a Hex receiver pre-soviet or American made Mosin Nagant (They were made by Remington in 1917 for the Czar)

I'm also a coin collector. I exclusively did American coins for several years but have moved to foreign ones recently.

@Rage Racer - Love everything you posted there, but especially the Japanese poice cars & those vans(Russian, I assume). Very unique in an awesome way. 👍

I have never heard of that, but I did grow up reading Doraemon & Captain Tsubasa mangas. Very cool dude. 👍

Currently collecting, or should I say hoarding, mint tins.
I go through roughly a tin of Wrigglys spearmints a week and the tins are so useful for keeping little things in I now have a sizeable collection in my office draw.
My office draws, by the way, have been home to all of my odd collection.

For reference:

Not my pic but how cute are those little tins? Great for storing USBs, paper clips, puncture repair kits, emergency cash...

Gt5 Cars and Paints? Yes! That's Me! 👍

I have started collecting 1/64 scale cars, specifically Hot wheels and occasionally Matchbox if I find anything pretty.
Update:
-1:64 scale cars (i.e. hot wheels, matchbox, majorette, etc.)
-anime static figures
-Steward's soda bottles
-coins & bills; specifically foreign coins, US State quarters, CDN Provincial quarters, any special CDN mints (i.e. poppy seed, breast cancer, Legendary Nature), a CDN penny from each year (currently have 1970-2011; trying to build on earlier pennies) as pennies are discontinued now so collecting one of each year has more value to me, and lastly, old CDN bills.

Well there you have it. I'm still collecting 1:64 cars and currency. Steward's soda bottles were always passive collection, more like a hoard though. The figurines are going to stop soon. Because I'm spending too much money on Hot Wheels, figurine collecting is going to cease. Oh, and I've collected all the commemorative loonies and Canadian quarters now. Pennies I'll probably never finish, nickels and dimes I don't really care about. All that's left to expand on is foreign coins, and hope to god I don't get into collecting foreign bills.

Haha.

2015 Update:

-Stopped playing GT5 years ago. PS3 is dead anyway.

-Stopped collecting anime figurines. If I ever move out, maybe.

-Steward's Soda bottles. We don't get anything new at Bulk Barn. Done with it.

-Currency: Haven't been as active as I once was, mainly because any 2014 US National Park quarters (I don't already have) rarely show up. That said, if anything else pops up, I take it. Never been smart enough to make time to polish up the recent grabs, seal them up and document them. My most recent find was a Mexican 10 peso coin... it got confused for a $2 Canadian coin.

-1:64 scale cars. Still going the strongest. It is still the primary collection. What has changed is the shift in brands. Granted new Hot Wheels and Matchbox cars are becoming less and less accessible at local stores, I've been moving my interest towards other brands. Namely Kyosho, CM's, Minichamps, and likely very soon TLV.

Do I forsee a new collection happening this year? I won't deny the possibility of something budding, but I would really wish I could restrict it to diecasts. We'll check back next year.

edit: Actually yes, I remembered something. I started up a new private blog. I'm using it to take note of everything I think (emphasis on that) will be useful towards improving my quality of life. Sounds silly... and redundant. It's kind of like a diary, but instead of logging recent activity, it's basically like assembling my own mishmash non-academic library.

I still think like a kid, I know very little of the responsibilities and requirements to surviving out there in the real world. I paid no attention nor put any time into educating myself about (anything) finance, medical terms and basic first-aid, networking, socializing, or cooking all my life, and I realize I can't continue living a care-free life. And since I still never care too much about that stuff, my tendency to forget these things is fairly high. So instead of storing it in my brain, it's going on a different medium.

So it's more or less going to be a personal collection of "tidbit useful knowledge". As long as the internet doesn't suddenly die out, this would ideally be something I can continually build and review all my life.

I used to collect car models quite a bit but I don't really have the space and well, they're kinda expensive so I've not really bought any in a while.

I've been really into collecting car brochures for a little while now, not just any though I prefer to collect stuff that I find interesting, or maybe will be worth moeny someday like a C7 Corvette brochure for example. Plus I'll get classic brochures for stuff I like.

To give a better idea of the crap I collect, here is an old pic I took a couple years ago of some of the variety of models and such that I collect/build:

And a more recent pic of a variety of stuff:

^ 1/10 scale r/c cars/trucks and associated bodies for them. Since those pics I got another car and truck, along with several bodies to add to the hoard.

So little money, so much want -_____-

@Monatsende, the trade in parody, Chinese knock-off action figures is huge. I've encountered a few laughable examples myself. If you're really interested in getting some check out TaoBao.com. Search for a superhero figurine and I'm sure you'll find so great immigrations worthy of your collection.

Also, does tar collection count? Because between the crap in my lungs from cigarettes and asphalt embedded in my arms and legs from bike crashes I'm doing pretty well. :)

It's the Chinese Amazon/eBay so it'll be in Chinese but it still responds to English language search and if you use chrome with a translate feature it's no too difficult to get used to.
I used it for years without knowing hardly any written Chinese. Many of the sellers speak English, too.

I've encountered Steelman (Ironman knockoff), SuperDude, Batma'am and a host of others.

I'm a collector of model cars. I used to collect model planes.

I used to collect WWII rifles and pistols especially Mosin Nagant rifles and Nagant pistols before I was married now with kids and wife they just collect dust in the gun safe LOL. Pics, if possible guys! We're all agog!

I'm also a coin collector. I exclusively did American coins for several years but have moved to foreign ones recently.

Got any of those valuable '43 or '44 wheat pennies?

@LancerEvo7, if you're looking to get your hands on some other Canadian coins, want to sort out a trade?

Also 1936 pennies IIRC were special ones for some reason.

Forgot to ask earlier. Is that Metal Gear Ray and Rex the ones by 3A Toys? I wanted those two for a long time, but always had this delusion they were ginormous.

- Coins
- Banknotes

Current and discontinued.

Principally the Anglosphere (CANUSUKAUSNZIRL) and Europe with a smattering of specimens from Africa and Asia.

Nah, the 3A Toys ones were way too expensive, iirc around $300-400 back when they came out. That and they sold out uber fast. I have smaller Metal Gears, 1/100 scale kits made by Kotobukiya.
