Here's why I think someone could be unhappy with GT6 on PS3: The devs always claim to have "maxed out" the hardware, which makes it hard to believe there's gonna be a lot of improvement. A lot of developers do that, it's common PR talk. But if you make it sound like your game is the best it can be on given hardware, it's to be expected that people will imagine that the game can't get much better until new hardware arrives.
I agree, I think it is highly likely there will still be some graphical issues in GT6, because of the limitations of the PS3.
The demo clearly indicates this.
So, I pretty much expect it at this point.
Furthermore, releasing GT6 for the PS3 will be make it look less impressive than other racing titles due out this year, or next. It's perfectly reasonable to go for the larger install base of the PS4, but I do think that, if you're quite fond of the franchise, it'd be a bit of a downer to see other games looking superior just because of the hardware they're running on. It of course is by no means a fair comparison, nor is going to be something everyone is going to be affected by as not everyone will own the new hardware to run it on. However, if you do, it's simply that having the option to go next gen or stick with GT isn't what some people would've liked. Just my idea of what's going on, obviously.
I think it's safe to assume you meant the install base of the PS3.
As I pointed out in another thread, GT6 is positioned as a economic favorite by default,
since you will have to buy a XB1 to play Forza 5, and won't have to buy a PS4 to play GT6.
It will probably be the last big hoorah to milk the last out of the PS3.
As a result, I believe this will help boost GT6 sales quite a bit as well.
Personally, I'm in favor of it since I already have a PS3 that sees virtually no activity,
and would basically be reduced to a dust collector, if GT6 was not coming out on it.
Hopefully GT6, will be a better game than 5, and provide some redeeming quality to my purchase of the PS3, being done almost exclusively for the GT series.
Also, with a new GT game releasing in late 2013/early 2014, I would think that it'll be quite a while before a GT game makes its way onto the PS4. Don't get me wrong, I, for one, don't really care. There'S enough next-gen eye candy around as is and some great car related games are close to release. But if you happen to be on the fence of buying a PS4, the prospect of a new GT game within the next few years might have been enough to tip the scales. GT games have been moving consoles quite well, I should think.
Again, I prefer that scenario.
I can sample GT6 and put off any decisions on the purchase of PS4 until GT7.
The quality of GT6 will play heavily into that as well.
And, last but not least, I'd like to point out that GT1 and, especially GT3, followed a different route than GT5 did. For GT3, PD was seemingly okay with reducing the amount of content in order to maintain a coherent, overall relative high quality. With GT, I feel that they refused to take a step back from GT4 in terms of sheer quantity. As such, the situation is different now than it was when going from GT1 to GT2 and from GT3 to GT4. Back then, PD just had to add content, as that was what was somewhat "lacking". However, I doubt that anyone has been complaining about the amount of content in and off itself with GT5. From what I can tell, the issue with that game was more that the content wasn't done to with a coherent level of quality in mind and that some of it was implemented despite being unfinished. Something that, in my opinion, PD decided against with GT3. So they likely took all the stuff they couldn't get done in time for GT3, refined them, and but them in GT4. This time around, though, they'll have to fix what's there first. Which makes it somewhat hard to compare GT5 --> GT6 to GT1 --> GT2 or GT3 --> GT4.
I think you are right in that it's hard to fiqure what we will get with GT6.
I'll just say, I hope it will be more in line with previous GTs, and particularly GT4.
