Ask GTP About Your Car Problems/General Questions

Do they have places that will do a good hand wash? The car is back at home in Seattle so I can't take it to that place in Holland.

Or maybe they wouldn't mind taking it to one of those DIY places where they provide the soap and water and things.

I don't know, i just typed "hand car wash Holland, Michigan" into Google Maps. Do some snooping around and i'm sure you'll find something.

Depends on the company. Most aftermarket suppliers ship... though you're better off asking at a Nissan specific forum as to which shops are trustworthy in this regard.

Well, I when I ordered my short ram intake, I expected it to be CARB exempted but when I smogged it this year, it wasn't accepted though I just got a email from Injen and they will be sending me a Plate with the right EO.

Oh...

How I love not living in California...
1 possible way to get a SR20 cali legal is to register it out of state, I had the opprotunity to buy a SR20t sil-80 for 4 grand but I would have to pay 300 dollars a year to get the registration from florida.

You can actually do non-appearance registration from three time zones away? Too complicated. Just be happy with what you have. Aren't there CARB-legal turbo kits for the KA24?

I am happy with the KA24e though the turbo kits seem to be offered if I look at an engine swap from a 91'.
Probably what comes close

That'll probably do... and you won't need much boost to be happy... even just 7-10 psi should do, at first... then get some track time under your belt.

After the track time, though, you'll probably be tearing through your suspension to make the car stick better...

I was thinking on working on the suspension and getting the engine 100% normal with just a short-ram installed. Injen will be sending out a decal and I like how fast they replied also.

Last I heard you were planning on getting Godspeed coilovers. With those under your car I'd be scared to drive at all, much less on a track.

Yeah, with my pay. I wouldn't think of getting too much spend if it was the best bang of the buck. But who knows, I may do some more research in it. ( if I can, well going back into my head. It was a quick decision though trying to get into the scene as fast as I can)

So a bad coil pack is making my Interceptor only run on 7 cylinders. Anyone know how much a new coil pack will cost?

No, but it shouldn't be rocket science to call the local NAPA and find out.

When I'm driving down the road it feels like my car is driving on balloons. The car is twitchy and almost feels wobbly. When I turn in real sharp it almost feels like the tires turn and then the car follows it if that that makes any sense. I guess what I'm trying to say is that that car's body is separated from the tires.

I've gotten an alignment, I've had the tires rotated, I've had two shops and the dealership check the front and rear suspension. I can't imagine it's the tires themselves but they are the correct size for the rims but I don't know. I don't really want to buy tires again, but if I must I will. Any thoughts?

A bit of an update on this, I had a buddy driving my car tonight and mid way through the drive he goes, "Good lord your tires have some epic tread squirm!" This is something I've never heard of before, but after some research on what tread squirm is I think it could be the issue. The only thing is Goodyear swears that they have designed the tire to eliminate that. Can anyone shed some more light on all of this for me please?

The tread blocks are too soft. That means they'll squirm under lateral loads. It's like the difference between playing basketball on running shoes with deep treads versus basketball shoes... the running shoes will feel wobbly and unbalanced.

Though why it should show up now... I don't know... usually tread squirm gets less as the tread itself wears down. Heat damage?

Again, it could be the sidewalls... if they've been damaged in any way or the pressures are too low.

You could switch to better tires.

It doesn't just happen under lateral load though, it happens on the freeway too. A response by Goodyear I found on the internet said that the tires squirm during their break in period but I have almost 9,000 miles on the tires. If they aren't broken in by now they suck.

My buddy said that it could be that I have a bad tire or two and suggested taking it back to where I bought them at and having them check it out. He said that if the tire has a manufacturing defect then they should be replaced free of charge. The two rears do lose air quite frequently and I'm topping off the pressure all the time. I check my tires every time I fill up to make sure they are at the correct pressure. Discount Tire has checked this out though and has blamed the cycling weather conditions.

We got under my car to and checked the sway bars and they seem to be fine, although I'm not thinking of maybe upgrading to a little bit beefier of one.

I'm going to see how these tires do when it comes to the first snow storm, if they give me any trouble at all I'm going to get a set of snow tires and call it a day. I'll trade these Goodyear's in towards the tires and then just buy summer ones in April or whatever.

Hey guys I have a question:

The motor shutters when the rpm is around 1900-2000. And it goes away if the rpm is below or above that. And it only happens when I'm accelerating from a stand-still and it happens really quick and it goes away, although one time i've had the engine rpm at around 2k and it was shuttering really bad but when away.

So whats the problem here? A loose/bad/missing engine mount? Hopefully that will be easy to replace in a 95 Accord EX with the F22B1, I'll have to consult the service manual soon.

thanks alot in advance!

edit: when I mean shuttering, I don't mean the engine internals aka the rpm and the throttle response is all completely normal (aka the rpm needle doesn't "shutter" and bounce at around that rpm) so it is purely a vibration issue where the rpm needle is smooth as can be (indicating no internal malfunction, i hope) but i can feel and hear shuttering vibration and shakes from under the hood when i'm driving.

@ Joey: I have a tire that loses air pretty quickly as well, but there's no real vibration coming from anywhere. Unless I'm on a ripply surface like new asphalt. And that's a problem with the road. (I drove from Seattle to Oregon on this stuff and spent quite a while trying to figure out where they vibration was coming from).

The car yells at me if they even lose a few PSI so it's annoying, I tried pumping my tires up higher today but that set off warning bells too. I hate TPMS sometimes.

EGR or O2 problem... usually kicks in around that rpm. But I don't really know that much about that engine.

Both of my employers have relatively new, relatively expensive cars, and from watching their experience, I have to say that TPMS is a complete and utter waste of time, money, and weight. The damn things go off all the time! If the temperature drops 10 degrees overnight the light comes on. If it's Tuesday the light comes on. Sometimes the light comes on when all 4 tires are right together at optimal pressure. There is going to be a cottage industry in defeating the stupid things and yanking the bulbs out of the dashboard.

Yet MORE pointless and ill-conceived government micro-regulation.

Agreed, they are evil and horribly expensive. I figure when I do get winter tires I'll have to buy another system so the car doesn't make a big deal about not having them on the car since I'll be using different rims.

And really, I know when my tires are low because I look at them.

Alright, so today I was driving around with some friends and we saw this ugly looking Suzuki. The front kind of looked like 05-07 Impreza(although it's overall smaller) and the back was just awful. Any idea as to what model this is? I searched but came up empty.

Is it this:

If so, it's a Suzuki SX4.

no, the front end looked like this.

It also had vents on the rear quarter panels as well as a very odd rear with circle lights.

Edit: I found that Forenza's had that style front however the rear doesn't match the one I saw. It could be custom but I doubt someone would sink money into a compact car. Does anyone know if they had a special edition or something.
