Yay!! The only series of games I've beaten atleast 5 times each. I hope it's as good as it looks and has a long story line. The others were good, but easily beaten even on the highest level. I find it funny that just about every Ace Combat has the Sukhois as the bad people. The helis look too, the last game I had with helis (Aero Elite), I couldn't get the hang of them. Hopefully they'll be a little easier on this one. Just can't wait to get my old friend back, the Su-37 :D.

I really dislike the trailer, AC was my second favorite franchise on PS1 and PS2 and the whole gameplay in that video reminds me too much of HAWX (follow your enemy, make stupid loopings...).

Enjoyed AC6 a lot & this looks to be just as good. Also like the little remix of the song from #6 at the end, too. :)

If it will be on PS3, I'm buying it.. As long as it doesn't have the ridiculous user generated paintjobs as the previous XBOX-version did. They're fighterplanes, dammit, not sticker books!

ABOUT TIME, I finished all ace combat games plenty of times except AC6 since it went to ebox, that disappointed me?

this got me so excited. i recently played ace combat two with my friend and after playing it for a little while, and reliving the glory days of way back when, we purchased and beat ace combat zero: the Belkan War with my friends and then we bought ace combat 4 and we gotta beat that one. good times...oh.. good times.

AH, another "arcade" flight game. To be honest, there was a time when I used to be into the AC games, but ever since I've graduated to games like Aero Elite Combat Academy and MSFX have lost interest in games like AC.

Completely agree. When I think of Ace Combat, I say 'meh'.
The best setup for a combat flight sim will always be F-19 Stealth Fighter by Microprose from years ago: You created your pilot, you chose Theatre of Operations, you selected you mission type, plane, armament, and the game randomly selected a mission from hundreds. You did the mission and got promoted/decorations depending on how well you did. It had the right balance of realism and fun, like GT.
There was no poxy storyline (usually about some tyrant wanting to take over the world) which meant the missions got eventually harder, and no time limit to them. Just you, your plane, and your orders. Tense, never-ending stuff.

Online Co-Op would make this game even more awesome. I can't wait to see how the series has evolved. This is a day 1 purchase for sure.

Evlolved from an arcade flying shooter to an arcade flying shooter with prettier graphics. Hmmm.....such sophistication. Namco seem to specialise in this - just look at the latest incarnations of the Tekken, Ridge Racer and SoulCaliber series. The first few in each actually showed improvements with each sequel, but the last ones.......nice graphics, same game.

To each his own i guess. Ace Combat will never be Flight simulator, it still is a fun game regardless.

Like I said elsewhere, the PS3 and 360 deserve much more than simple arcadey flying games, driving games or fighting games.
Fun they may be, but I sure as hell wouldn't pay £40 for them.
For that money, we all deserve some sort of substance and longevity.
GT5 is on it's way so th driving genre is covered, but I - and many others I'm sure - would welcome a proper realistic fighting game or flight sim.

Amen. I even prefer games like Pilot Wings(SNES/SFC, N64?), Aero Dancing(Dreamcast) over the newer air combat games. I even loved games like Silent Service(sub simulator on NES), Panzer Front(WWII tank game on Dreamcast).

I don't care for game like Ace Combat, or any arcadey type combat sims(or games, whatever), but really, to each their own. I just don't understand why nobody makes combat type simulators for major consoles anymore. Probably because of PC's, but there are millions who doesn't play games on PC's.

P.S. Just found out that Aero Dancing & Aero Elite are the same things.

As a die-hard Ace Combat fan, I am somewhat excited, yet disappointed at the same time. I have come to love the fictional world that Ace Combat was set it (known as Strangereal) and all of its countries and companies. Basing this new AC in the real world takes away from that, and makes it like most other mainstream games like HAWX and COD:MW. Also from the trailer, it looks like it is a lot like HAWX (which I dislike greatly btw) in terms of gameplay/flight physics. Sure it is an arcade game, but the rail-like physics of HAWX with the silly impossible maneuvers was just... blah. I will probably wait to see actual gameplay video before I really decide if I should like Assault Horizon...

And I noticed a few people mentioned Aero Dancing/Aero Elite... I loved that game. Too bad Sega never made a new one on the current gen platforms...

I think the last one I played was the Belkan War as well (great game btw) and I'm pretty sure I played most if not all before that, Air Combat was my first ever game I think, tied with Colin McRae Rally I'm pretty sure. This one doesn't look as good, the jets move too unrealistically judging by that trailer.

I became an Ace Combat fan after playing "Shattered Skies".

The physics and graphics of the game weren't half bad in the PS2 versions (i.m.o.). It's a bit like an official Formula 1 game - slightly greater emphasis on gameplay rather than full on simulation.

I recently played HAWX and I thought it was awful compared to the Ace Combats from the PS2. The planes don't feel like they're on rails as much as HAWX and the storyline makes you want to carry on playing.

Regarding the silly/impossible maneuvers from the new trailer the real life counterparts of the planes (and helicopters) can actually do them!

In terms of getting the facts right with gameplay I reckon Ace Combat's pretty spot on. Physics and realism wise they do their best - within reason - because if the game was too hard I wouldn't have kept at it all those years ago with the PS2.

Despite the COD:MW2 look of the game the story actually looks playable and it doesn't look like the game developers sold themselves out. Be interesting to see what the actual game will be like though. Makes me wonder if they'll have a demo on the PS store sooner or later :D.

This looks really cool... Can't wait... been waiting for a good air combat game on the PS3.. HAWX was a bit of a let down...

Hell yes, about time there is a new Ace Combat game. I'm loving what I'm seeing ,though my only gripe is why they have suddenly gone from the fictional world to the real world.

Nonetheless, I'm getting it 👍

They're trying to appeal to a wider demographic I'm guessing. Especially with the number of Call of Duty and Battlefield players.

I'm all for it since they'll (hopefully) still have some fictional and real "X-planes" that aren't too ridiculous (with the games setting looking somewhat like today).

I think if would be cool or cooler if they took the AC franchise back in time and did WWII aircraft.

There were few of this type game for the PS/PS2, and the ones there were had a kinda sucky, hard to learn UI.

And for the record, and off Topic, Now that we have a Vehicle like the PS3, Could Lucasarts get off their ass and update ANY and all of the X-Wing, Tie-fighter, and XVT games for it?
I may be the only one that thinks that's a good idea....
But I think it's a VERY good idea.

I would love another Aero Elite/Aero Dancing title given its ultrarealistic nature, however since CRI Research broke from SEGA Aero Elite(Aero Dancing 4) seem to be the last of the series. Still though I love Aero because it does a good job of hanging with Microsoft Flight Simulator games.

Found this interview today:

The one thing that has put me at ease is that this isn't for all intensive purposes AC7, its a completely different Ace Combat. Thats a relief as I was under the impression they ditched the old fictional settings for good.

I find it funny that just about every Ace Combat has the Sukhois as the bad people.

It's because they're Russian dude. There is mostly one pattern in games and especially movies-heroes=perfect Americans, bad guys=retarded, bad bad evil Russians. It's so stupid.

I really dislike the trailer, AC was my second favorite franchise on PS1 and PS2 and the whole gameplay in that video reminds me too much of HAWX (follow your enemy, make stupid loopings...).

I have to agree with you on this one. I also did not like AC6 as much as pretty much all the previous games of the series.

It also was my second favourite franchise on PS1 and PS2, closely followed by MGS and Splinter Cell.

Agree, I was more on the Russian like evil sides, they looked more human somehow,at least didn't annihilated their counterparts.

As for this ace combat comeback I'm not so sure,it does look like an ace combat based on MW2,but the thing is that it might suit to the ace combat games?

In any case I like more the classic ace combats(PS2 ones),they have more "soul" somehow.

New trailer, well not that new but worth a look:

I know that it looks a hell of a lot like MW2 bad guy,but who cares the new direction for the series is starting to make sense, what motivates me is the soundtrack, just pure Hiroshi Hokubo awesomeness,is more action oriented that keiki kobayashi compositions, but damn it sounds really good.
