Oh brother. "As long as it's fake damage, that's good enough."

Okay, let me rephrase that.
As long as their is at least superficial damage, I won't be dissapointed. (as most NFS games have only had such damage, so any less than there already is would be a downer). I don't necessarily want my car frying after one crash, but I would like to really know I been hitting stuff, so superficial damge is fine. Besides, as relentless as cops are in the NFS games (especially MW), it would make pursuits an absolute nightmare. Add that to commonly driving 140+ around traffic, full, realistic damage wouldn't get you very far in the game, as one crash could annihilate your car beyond repair.

Meh, it's realistic...

...And the police from Most Wanted weren't exactly the greatest I've ever seen.

Okay then, give us an example of better cops (other than real life :sly: ).

Other than real life, the police in Most Wanted DO probably prove toughest. Oh wait a sec... in GTA San Andreas when you've attained six stars, the police do tend to bring in some heavy artillery...

The Koenigsegg CCX and the Nissan 240SX are confirmed.

Sorry for the double post (mods, merge if needed) but I saw this little bit on the Online features of carbon.

IGN.com
NFS C: Online Features Saturday, 30.09.2006
Electronic Arts finally published some infos about the onlinemode of Need for Speed Carbon over the onlinemagazine IGN:

Can you give us a quick synopsis of what direction you are taking online features this year? What is the biggest difference between this year and last year?
Carbon's online feature set is much broader and deeper than anything we've done before on a Need for Speed game. For Most Wanted last year we had 3 online multiplayer modes. This year we've added to that and included a great deal more .

In or out of the main career all of our race modes can be played online. There are 4 game modes that you can compete in online multiplayer racing: Circuit, Sprint, Speedtrap and Canyon Duel. Those races that aren't multiplayer will track your best times and scores on the Online Leaderboards.

We are tracking and displaying your statistics for every race, track, game mode and free roam event you participate in during the game. We've added Online Co-operative Challenge Series events where you can race with up to 3 friends in any of 4 challenges and complete the Challenge together.

What can you tell us about the new race modes?
We also have two, very cool, online exclusive multiplayer modes that I can't wait to talk about. But, we'll have to save those for next time.

How are you taking advantage of leader boards this year?
Every track and race mode has its own leaderboard that reflects both multiplayer and single player results. If you are connected to online while playing, your best results are being recorded to the boards. Better yet, we filter the results to show you how you rank against all of your friends on each board.

What is Shadow Mode?
We've built Need for Speed's first Shadow mode. You can record your own shadow on any ranked track and if you play online, you can download the current leader's Shadow for a specific track and race mode. If you can do better, your Shadow takes over the top spot for others to try to beat.

We heard there was a photo mode? What is that?
We have developed a Photo Mode this year. You can take a photo of your car in either the pause menu of a solo race, or the front end and upload it to NeedforSpeed.com for you and your friends to share. Each photo includes detailed data on your car including your modifications, visual upgrades and car statistics

What are virus achievements?
There are four special unlocks you can earn this year by playing others online. Three of the unlocks are earned by playing an "infected" player in specific multiplayer modes. Once you've played together, you are now infected, gain the unlock, and can infect others by playing with them in that mode. If you can contract all three viruses you'll earn an additional piece of content for the achievement.

NFS:C Online features article.
NFS:C Online features video.

You haven't heard of Flatout have you ;)

Burnout Revenge is far better than Flatout, at least in my opinion. Flatout was just too...boring.

THe sense of speed wasn't the same, you couldn't just jump in and race like you can with burnout, and frankly, the whole "driver coming through the windshield" was cool like, the first two times...

As for NFS: Carbon, I watched some more vids, and I'm still very underwhelmed...what can I say.

I don't like the fact that most of the races will be at night, You know, it's kinda boring not to be able to enjoy scenary, all you do is press left, right, break, gas, boost, while STARING at the minimap.:scared:
It's only my HO though:sly:

Yer, I'd say an in-game weather changer should be an option, changing from morning to noon, dusk to night but they are focusing more on their 'Underground' series where street racing was always done at night.

As for the car list, It's good to see that the Alfa Romeo Brera and Evo 9 appearing, as well as the 350Z and R34 GTR making a return.
Though, they need to introduce the Holden Monaro, tis so much better.
And did I dare see a Pagani Zonda or a Koenigsegg CCX? 💡

Good to see the Audi R8 hitting the Need For Speed series.

NFSUnlimited.net
Our affiliate NFSUnlimited recently interviewed the producers of Need for Speed Carbon and mentioned some interesting facts about the game. Here's a short extract:

NFSUnlimited.net: Features like 'catch-up' and performance matching in recent games have gamers crying foul. Does this philosophy continue in Carbon?

Kristian von Fersen: We've spent a lot of time this year balancing the AI and tuning the various car classes and tiers within them. Overall, I think that players will notice a much more realistic experience based on the different performance levels of the cars. For instance, it makes sense that a car such as the Mazda RX8 can't keep up with a car like a Lamborghini Murciélago and vice versa. As players progress through the game, they'll reach certain points where the car they're driving just can't quite compete with the competition and they'll have to head to the car lot to make a step up in performance. I think this is a key difference from Most Wanted where you could, through the use of upgrades, make a low end car that could compete with some of the fastest cars in the game.

The Koenigsegg will be in all versions. I've heard also that the 240 will be in all versions as well, but it isn't confirmed yet. No S15.

Sorry (again) for the double post, but guess what? More news!

NFS-Planet.com
As already stated here there is something more to tell you about the onlinemode of Need for Speed Carbon. There will be two new modes for online racing, called Pursuit Tag and Pursuit Knockout:

In "Pursuit Tag" the player has to escape from up to seven police cars. If you escape within one minute, you get the maximum points and change your role from the hunted to the hunter. This mode takes place in the free roaming world.

"Pursuit Knockout" is a mode which is quite similar to the K.O.-mode of NFS Most Wanted. The gaming concept guarantees quite some action: Up to eight players can participate on one race. The last one gets knocked out each round and turns automatically to a police car and can pursuit the other drivers and have to damage them as much as possible. Each round the number of police cars gets higher until only one driver is left, who has to escape from the police two more rounds until he's declared as the winner.

Good knowledge of the tracks is the A and O in the game, because the players who are acting as the police can block the roads with their cars. The normal players can only use the regular track, but the cop cars can use shortcuts and drive through track areas which are closed to the others.
Which one of the three police cars you get (Rhino, Cruiser or Corvette) depends on the level of your own car.

Sounds nice, doesn't it? :)

I don't think the drifting sucks, but when there's tons of framerate drops it just ruins it.

Oh so it wasn't only me who looked at the slideshow races and thought that was horrible.
