So far watching some streamed stuff on twitch I'm seeing the windscreen debris and dirt pick up to be a stand out visual, looks amazing. The game isn't pretty on PC so not expecting it to rival Forza or even PCars in looks but the windscreen is wining though IMO.
I agree, really liking the sun on the windscreen. In fact, I'm impressed with the lighting generally, looks pretty realistic. It's one thing I never cared for much with pCARS as they seemed to use a very contrast-y lighting model. Exposure levels look more balanced from what I've seen of AC.

I am blown away that there are no exhaust flames in the console version. Obviously, if Kunos intentionally removed them it must have been for performance reasons as they were already in the code from the PC port. It just blows my mind that exhaust flames would place such a premium on system resources. Perplexing.

Hi guys, i don't know if it's been mentioned already, but is it true that on PS4 at least, we won't be able to setup private lobbies when online, only public? I know someone who has the game early and they have told me this. Any thoughts? Thanks, and only 5 days to go!!! :)

How does online mode work on the consoles? Has anyone posted a video yet of a walk through getting into an MP online race? I'm just curios how they'll do it for consoles compared to PC's. No private lobbies kind of sucks, doesn't it? How do you form a race league, or regular weekly race with the same people if you can't have control over a private race lobby?

It has to be simply a bug. Nothing more than that.

Maybe that's because people are jumping to conclusions based on a version of the game that hasn't received the launch patch and they probably never really intended for people to play the un-patched version? You could be right, it could be a disaster, guess we'll see in a few days.

Nope I'm not saying it's going to be a disaster, it plays very well already, just the issue that certain options are not added simultaneously like the were on PC, like I said Pit Stops for example. And I hope Kunos does not leave things out by accident.

It depends on host privileges but perhaps a sensible lobby name combined with kicking out strangers? Not ideal but better than nothing.

It could be a disaster, who knows. I know there's going to be a lot of whinging no matter what shape it arrives in, that's for sure. I have to presume that going from PC to console will alway require some concessions for the "lesser" hardware, it's entirely possible that they had to remove the new animated exhaust flames to make room for something else more important, maybe the console hardware couldn't handle both at once. I'm sure having the AI using player physics is a bit more taxing on the system than most other racing games but they're adamant that the AI uses the same physics as the player so they're more likely to cut something non-critical like exhaust flames than they are to water down the AI. Or it could be they sent a fairly basic version of the game to press knowing that a lot of these other options would be added in the patch after they had a bit more time to iron out kinks. Or it could be they cut a bunch of features just to give certain tabloid websites so much fodder that they explode. Who knows. Based on what I know of Kunos I'd expect a fairly quality product, they'd rather not do something than do it half-assed, but only time will tell.

So realistically what do we think are the chances of getting a custom championship mode in the console version at some point?

I'm just hoping they're not thinking console players don't want x or y when a game like pCARS has shown we do want it, or at least the option to have x or y. If there's one thing SMS did right it's the porting of everything over from the PC builds. If some things are absent from AC I hope they'll keep an eye on player feedback and implement anything missing if that's what the majority want.

I'd rather have great AI than Flames, but I really can't believe that those flames are so demanding on hardware, it was probably just something they didn't prioritize on PC. But very good to know that Kunos has their priorities straight .

No custom championships is crazy, anyone with half a brain sent from Kunos to research the PCars forum would of reported back "put a custom championship mode in there... even just a simple pick number of tracks pick number of cars and hit go!"
This one feature could of straight away kicked PCars in the goolies. Crying shame. SMS will add it in PCars2 and that game will live forever like LFS.

Like it or not adding/fixing things with patches is standard practice both project bugs and gt6 did this. Gt6 lobby control was added much later. I would rather have a stable game with basic features NOW that can be expanded and new ones added over time. Stable and simple is a good foundation to build, the more you build on crap foundations the bigger the collapse. I remember a game that advertised to have everything? Then the console release May 2015 had things omitted and a LOT of the features that remained just didn't work properly It seemed the more they tinkered the worse somethings got or new problems were created. Less and quality not more and ****, that's what I think anyway.

Well, AC never had as many options or bells/whistles as PCars, but I'm pretty confident they will fit everything into the console build that they can (and they've said many times it should basically be exactly like the PC version). I hope they didn't have to cut too much stuff to make concessions for the console hardware, but it's possible.

The flames used to be a basic .png that just flashed on and off. A few updates ago they made the flames animated and they look quite slick, but I'm not sure how resource hungry they are (probably more than we'd think).

It's been discussed over and over on the AC forums with Stefano, unfortunately things we think are easy aren't always that easy (there's a lot more to it than just picking a set of cars and tracks). Remember, this engine was originally designed to only have a handful of cars and tracks and that's about it, so making it do things it wasn't designed for isn't always that easy. But, Stefano has said he's working on it and a custom championship builder is likely on its way sooner than later, so just have a bit of patience. 👍

Patience and console owners, not a match made in heaven!

WTF!!
Ho makes a simulation game without private online lobbies at launch [facepalm]

Yeah, I lived in that world for many years, I know! It wasn't that long ago I was solely a console racer and I would be absolutely chomping at the bit to get my hands on AC, even if it was missing a few features from the PC. I certainly wouldn't have been trying to find any and every way to already declare it a failure like some people seem to be doing, but that's just me.

I've had AC since the early days and patience becomes a virtue! At the end of the day its having faith in Kunos, they normally deliver.

Ive changed my style after a constant array of disappointments last year mainly because of Koei Tecmo.

Tactical pitchforks, now you can rage efficiently.

All it needs is the flame thrower attachment and you'll be ready to storm the offices of Vallengula!

Why is everyone getting irate over this lmao? Yea it would be great but it's not the disaster everyone is making out, I'm sure they will arrive at some point. I think people should remember this is a sim and notva simple arcade video game made to sell millions then dumped after 2 weeks. AC is gonna be around for a while and supported for a while too.

I really hope people continue to come to this thread to report "WTF?! Look at this tweet! AC doesn't support private lobbies!! hurr durr hurr!!"

Does anyone have an opinion on, you know, the most important part of the game...how the cars and track feel while driving? It seems like a LOT of people were fortunate to get their copies early...I'm interested in hearing their opinions on that.

You have nailed it, if physics and track quality aren't at the top of the list then perhaps AC isn't for you. Maybe Pcars or NFS would be more suitable.

Also, I've never seen anything saying Sony won't allow the wheels to work on the PS4. My understanding is they just asked Fanatec to remove it from their advertising because it wasn't fully compatible (needs a controller to operate menus) and thus was misleading. Fanatec said it's up to the devs to include support or not, and Kunos clearly chose to include that support when the game went gold, so why would the remove it a month or two later on release?
All of those wheels are still supported in Project CARS afaik, so Sony doesn't care that a developer makes something work with a device that's not officially PS4-compliant. If I recall correctly from WMD all that was required to make those work in the game was close collaboration with Fanatec and SMS. So no idea why the same doesn't or couldn't apply to Kunos.
