Starting to get very annoyed by the console crowd comments, they just don't get it, very sad.

It's to be expected, AC isn't a typical game and doesn't intend to be so they don't know how to receive it. It doesn't tick all the boxes they're used to and aren't finding things they expect to be there. When I first moved to PC gaming AC was my first racing sim and I had similar feelings "Where's this function? Why doesn't it do that or this? What the hell were they thinking?! Total disappointment" but after a while of enjoying what the sim does offer and learning a bit more about Kunos I eventually came around and have a different outlook now. I still wish it had a lot of things that it doesn't have, or did a few things better than it does, but it is what it is and I enjoy it. A lot of "gamers" will find plenty to be disappointed about, but I think most of us (and Kunos) knew that going into it.

After some more testing and playing with ffb settings i have some advice for people who still have doubts about AC :

BUY THE GAME AS SOON AS POSSIBLE !!!!!!!!!!!

The driving model (physics an ffb) is MIND-BLOWING, it's so addictive to drive a car that you can forgive all the shortcomings.
I am thrilled for your excitement and enjoyment of Assetto Corsa already on Day One. I know there have been many others who have been very happy with AC so far and many others who have also said the game is terrible and they're already done with it.

That is one of the scarier parts of the Nordschleife for me. You can either stay on course for a potentially good lap time, or you can totally blow the entire lap if you go wide or can't brake before the sand trap...Oh, it's so scary in some cars.

I've been told that in real life the reason that a lot of people crash there is because they lift while trying to go through that kink to the left. You need to stay flat out to keep the weight transferred properly or your rear-end is going to get loose as a goose! :D

For the average console player it's already too late. Only the hardcore players(like me) have enough patience to buy a game and wait for a few months to have a decent quality. I see it as a long term investment, but that's not how the average console players think.
That is exactly how I see things with AC. I get all the complaints and dissatisfaction with particular areas of AC, but knowing the Kunos devs even as little as I do, I know them well enough that they're not going to let these faults stand. They will fix them.

I'm not trying to defend the game as it has its problems but that review was very bad, the reviewer fails to understand the audience its going for. Its like saying Arma 3 is a bad game because guns are harder to use compared to call of duty and you dont get instant points and killstreaks for killing people. Oh well nothing I can do about it.

That review was kind of sad & pathetic. Clearly, the guy just doesn't get it.
Away from the graphical presentation, however, Assetto Corsa also disappoints. This game is hard. Really hard. It's the kind of game that punishes you so severely that mistiming a corner by even a split second is enough to wreck an entire championship weekend – and this applies even to the slower starting cars which seem to take an age to come to a stop. <snip> it's made infuriating here because there are no tutorials whatsoever; you're simply plonked onto the track and away you go.
 Is this guy serious? Assetto Corsa is trying it's hardest to make physics, force feedback, tires and the car's look and components they "build" as realistic as possible. This game is hard? Umm....Driving a car at 100+ MPH is really 🤬 hard in real life. This is NOT Forza or Driveclub. AC is trying to simulate real life as much as they can with today's hardware and the limits of their knowledge and programming ability. Mistime a corner in real life and yes, you may have just blown your chances at winning the race. The AI drivers are not just moving road blocks. They are to be considered as having skills equal to yours, or maybe even better, or worse, depending on how you set it. Older, slower cars seem to take ages to stop? Wait a minute. Are you telling me that the 1965 Alfa Romeo GTA that you're pushing hard around Brands Hatch doesn't stop on a dime like the Huracan GT3 you just drove? KUNOS SUCKS!!! Then he criticizes Assetto Corsa for not providing tutorials on how to drive a car! I also love how he says that not having absolutely beautifully created 'people' in the crowd is distracting at 200mph. Oh well... I actually did expect this, to some degree.

I don't think Kunos is going after the casual or new to racing player. Their target audience is GT and Forza players, so not having tutorials and such isn't really needed for that audience. They are after the hardcore console sim racers.
I wouldn't say that they're going after the GT and Forza audience. I think they're going after the people who are stuck playing GT or Forza because their consoles don't offer them anything better or more realistic, in their opinion.

I was quite apprehensive about Assetto Corsa being released for consoles. Of course, I want it to move tons of units, but I know it won't. This type of game is not meant for 85% of GT & Forza players. Not because they're not good enough or cool enough to understand what a real sim is...or any of that other pretentious crap that often gets spouted online. Nope. It's just that I don't think 85% of console players want what Assetto Corsa is trying to deliver.

@brownninja97 stole my thought. You can do many, many things in CoD that can also be done in Arma 3. CoD has a massive player base. I'm sure the vast majority of CoD players would find Arma 3 boring as hell! Or the controls are stupid... There are too many of them! It's too difficult...or whatever. Arma 3 players aren't better than CoD players. They're just looking for something different than what CoD provides. That's all.

One last thing. I forgot to quote the post of someone in this thread who said that drifting is absolutely horrible and unrealistic in Assetto Corsa. All his car was doing is oversteering like crazy. I'm assuming that meant the car was spinning out. He's had Assetto Corsa for not even 24 hours and because he's not able to drift every turn without a mishap at Circuito di Magione - then AC must be unrealistic. Oh...Kay...

I hope more console owners end up loving AC as much as I do. For those that think it sucks...I get it. It's not for everybody. The Career Mode in AC sucks. There are no parts upgrades or weight reduction options. You can't buy new rims for your street cars, etc... For some people that stuff is wicked important. They have just as much right to want a game with those features as I do with the things I like.

I think that the review was excellent in one respect. It will prevent guys who aren't really after simulation from wasting their money.

While I am a Kunos fan, I think it's important to recognize just what AC is and isn't. Reviews like this represent a part of the console user base which should be buying The Crew or Forza Horizon.
I think that this review is only going to scare people away who can't think for themselves, I'm talking about scaring ACs targeted audience bear I mind. Anyone looking for a game in AC will probably be put off, but anyone looking for something more than current games offer will likely be intrigued to do more research. I know had I not ever came across AC and just read this review I would have wanted to know more after he complained he wasn't good enough to plsy it lol. Also how long has he been playing it? Said you don't get rewarded for the long learning curve but I question he's put the t7me In that is needed. At the end of the day nothing beat consumer reviews imo.

If you'd read that you'd be laughing your head off. It's clear why it got 5. He wanted it to be simcade.
20 years as a sim racer bro lolol.

The consoles can run movies, games, and sims. Just because a game and a sim happen go through a similar production process, doesn't mean that they should be judged as more similar to each other than each of them to a movie. I'm not ok with some COD kid thinking that COD has afforded them the prowess to properly review American Sniper, and not ok with some NFS kid thinking that NFS (or GT/FM even) has granted them the sensibilities required to properly review Assetto Corsa.

Give sims their due, and set aside the logical fallacy of sims and games being automatically interrelated, and suddenly some reviewers will rightly be seen as completely unqualified for the job at hand.

Trusted Reviews' summary seems more akin to what we're talking about:

"It can’t compete with Forza, Gran Turismo or Project Cars when it comes to looks, cars or tracks. The career mode is tedious and often frustrating, and the presentation makes it feel even nerdier and less accessible than it is. Yet the core driving experience remains magnificent, with some of the best handling and most immersive racing around. This isn’t a racer for everyone – it’s tough, demanding and a bit too hardcore – but if you want a sim with thrills and authenticity, it’s well worth taking for a spin."

7/10

Better stop talking about that review as we pretty much agree it's not a very good one anyway.
I'd like to hear more feedback from those that are losing their virginity at the moment with AC 👍
I found the comments pretty funny. Clearly it hasn't gone unnoticed that the review misses the point. They're all asking for more arcade games lol.

It's understandable that owners of the Steam version see things this way after two years of experience. Kunos has demonstrated the ability to fix the smallest of issues rather quickly. I don't dare to be so confident about the PS4 version though. It's new territory for the developers and most things have to be weighted against optimization for the limits of console performance. I hope to invest in AC sooner rather than later, but there are currently no guarantees that the console versions are worthy of it.

I tried AC with a Dualshock 4 today at my friends' house for about 30 minutes. I liked the way cars communicate what they're doing, even if, overall, the driving experience was a bit rough. Smooth and slow inputs didn't always work. There's definitely some work to do on the pad settings. I'll get my copy tomorrow and I'll try to find some time to play it.

Head, meet nail. I'm pretty sure Kunos would agree with all of that.

Yeah, that review isn't very good, I'll agree.

I think the suggestion that reviews should only focus on the strong aspects of a game pretty laughable if I'm honest. I don't think it really matters what the key features are: a game should be taken in as a whole.

There was a review for GT6 back when it released that said something along the lines of it being a 10/10 simulation trapped in a 5/10 game. I'm not bringing it up to discuss the merits of GT's physics engine, but the main sentiment.

AC — and really, any game — shouldn't get a pass in an overall review based on one or two aspects being strong. I appreciate that Kunos isn't targeting the Forza/GT style of game, because that was a clever move. But just as those games get pulled up for their shortcomings, so should AC. Whatever they may be: I'm really not comfortable stating what I think they are or aren't yet, as I haven't had much time with the game.

That whooshing noise you here is the point spectacularly flying over your head.
Try hear rather than here, might help.

If it had been up to me, I would have said "No way..." at Kunos entering the console market. Certainly not with Assetto Corsa I. Perhaps if Kunos decides to make Assetto Corsa II in a couple of years it could have been a better idea, in my opinion. Although, we aren't even at the official launch date yet. There is no way to truly know what the majority of people think until after the North American release - a few weeks after that release.

Just a suggestion for console players: DO NOT USE STABILITY CONTROL!! Frankly, they shouldn't have even included it as far as I'm concerned. Traction Control is enough of a helping aid to your driving. Don't put Stability Control at 10% or 20% - keep it turned off. You will develop such bad habits if you drive with it turned on, you'll never be able to race online because 99% of the online servers are going to have that feature disabled. Did I mention not to use Stability Control yet? Stop thinking about Stability Control. You're thinking about it. Aren't you. Don't even look at Stability Control. Why are you still thinking about it? I said stop!!!

I think te opposite, it will be their first experience dealing with consoles, so they can take that experience for AC2 in a couple of years when they plan to expand on the game anyway.

Experience from now will be very valuable for them.

A spelling error doesn't change the fact you're missing the point. If that's all you have as a response, that really proves it.

I haven't seen anybody in this thread suggesting AC become an arcade racer.
Well, let's wait and see. The complaints are already coming if you look around. I feel the general public have been given ample warning about what to expect, bugs aside, which will no doubt be ironed out in due course.

I pre-ordered PCARS based on the endlessly positive early feedback from the community. It had numerous bugs at launch. It still does.

I'm not going to assume anything about the future support of Assetto Corsa. I'm not going to assume all problems will be ignored, but I'm also not going to give them a pass and assume they'll all be fixed either.

EDIT - I should clarify: I'm mentioning PCARS only because it's the most recent example. Not that AC is even close to as problematic at launch. From what little I've played, I've noticed precisely one minor graphical glitch. There's an audio one that seems to be tied to my recording equipment, but that's a whole other issue. It's quite the well-behaved game in that regard. 👍

"Ample warning" doesn't change whether a game has things like no custom lobbies or a limited offline career. If every game was reviewed ignoring less-than-favorable aspects simply because "players were warned", everything would get 10/10, and the entire thing would be pointless.

I'm still not sure why people get so upset when a bad review doesn't line up with their expectations. Nobody already on the AC train is going to be swayed by any review. Seeing all of this fuss reminds me not only of PCARS release, but also GT6's.

It makes me all the more happy I play as many racing games as I can. Each one has its pros and cons.

Just found out Assetto Corsa was not delivered to my store. Hopefully it arrives early in the morning so I can still get it tomorrow as normal. I don't fancy going through the weekend without it.

Go and buy it somewhere else?
Weekend is what we're all looking forward to (me for some F12016 :D).

Unlike SMS, they will do whatever they can to ensure a good result.

Well my Prestige edition has been dispatched to my house but I'm not back home until September! We've all got problems, dude! :P

Because every game comes with a cult of apologists attached to it, and AC is no different. And since many are also pc-snobs, they're twice as nasty.

But luckily enough we only have a handful over here as far as I can tell, most peeps here are not so narrow minded. 👍 Ignore list is useful if it's only a handful.

A review good/bad is a after all is only a opinion but the credit is gone if it's poorly executed.

Nothing to do with PC snobs, it's understanding what Kunos are trying to achieve. Patience is required, trust me, us "PC snobs" have been patient to the extreme. If you can't understand that then it's not "our" problem.
