Today, I had the opposite experience from yesterday.

Decided to go for a simple hotstint around 6am Suzuka on a McLaren 650S... And what a joy it was!

Everything was spot on. The McLaren was brilliant to drive and the nice, golden light made Suzuka look stunning.
I was wearing headphones and the sound of the car bouncing off the track walls on the main and back straights made the whole thing almost magical.

And yes, my brain and eyes are still finding it hard to cope with the 30fps (and its dips). But it's getting better and right now everything else makes me eager to get back to it again.

Had a similar experience last night with Suzuka. Night race.

Its the dam stuttering. Theres no rhyme or reason. Hot lapping alone the game will stutter like crazy. Full grid at night and its smooth.

Can't wait to start a proper Career.

Did I hear complaints about headlights not working. Mine have been working fine. Reg and high beams.

I got the wheel to connect but it wants to rock back and forth as soon as I turn left or right and if I let it go it just spins wildly from lock to lock. What's causing that?

Have you messed around with the steering lock? Match the wheel settings to ingame settings. That worked for me.

I did change it to 900 like the suggested settings, but now back in the pits I went back into it and it's set on 0 and won't let me change it. I can change any other setting except lock.

EDIT. Turned console off, wheel off, restarted everything, still spins back & forth, went into settings now I can change lock, changed it to 900, wheel still spins fast lock to lock if I let go of it.

2nd EDIT also pedals do not work. They did at first but once the wheel started spinning, they stopped.

Wow. Four pages since my last post.

That there is the definite no buy from me. :censored:s me off when we gett short replays, same with motogp, cannot get a full race length replay, I don't get it, replays files are tiny for gt sport, so what is the issue with that, really do not like that unreal engine
The real slap in the face is, after completing a race, a replay begins from the star of the race. The problem? The screen is half covered by the final results times.

If I can watch a replay of the full race, why do I only get three minutes when I press "Replay"?

Are the cars in the game Paddle shift or do they have a clutch/stick?
All modern GT3 cars are paddle-shift.

Here is what I'm dealing with.

It looks like something is happening with the steering lock because I can't change it. However when the shaking started I went back into the settings and it was still at 900 but then it resets to 0.

If I can get the wheel to center I can even let go and the wheel won't shake. But any movement and it starts again.

Well I installed it.. Frame rate is livable in gaming mode on my TV/ I've got it looking smooth enough after playing around with the TV settings (A LOT) I ended up with eye care switched on, 100hz on and the sharpness way down to the point where I could still read the text on the screen (just). At that point I'm ok with the frame rate and I guess I'll get more used to it.

I haven't tried it with the wheel yet but I noticed one thing that really needs patching unless I'm just being stupid and can't see it.. But as far as I can see you can not setup acceleration and braking on the right thumb stick (only triggers), this is a very xbox'y thing to do and a lot of old time Gran Turismo players are not going to deal with trigger driving at all.. Triggers should be for shifting.. or at least the option. Anyway so far that's far more of a problem than the frame rate. Not being able to adjust the view.. needs fixing.. Frame rate is livable :).. if you don't mind bluryness worse than gt4 on the last CRT you owned then you can have it looking quite smooth. Talking about CRTs.. right about now I really regret not owning a HD rear projection CRT because this game would look smooth and sweet on one of those.

Anyway overall, I'm happy with the money spent versus game I got (even so far) but for me it's unusable on a controller without being able to use the sticks to drive it so i will try it on the wheel tomorrow. They can improve the harshness of the trees a lot if they wanted to.. just remove them :) and I honestly think they could have got this game to 60 frames if it was a dedicated build on the PS4 with all the grand stands, and general trackside objects you don't need nerfed in quality.

Being a PC port was a compromise in effort with this game but they can't rebuild the game from scratch without spending years and years on it.. So here we are and it's ok. Could have been a better in an ideal world, but theres still many things they can simply fix to make it a lot better yet. It does drive easily on the controller btw. If you use triggers....

Btw I haven't seen any extra stutter yet just the constant 30 frames (OG PS4)

Ok so having tons of fun with ACC and decided to bite the bullet and go manual gears like I should. Always tend to go back to auto gears due to it just being easier getting into any racing game etc. But want to push through with manual gears. So far going ok even though I'm slower than what I am with auto gears and if a lot of stuff happens I tend to forget about my gears completely...but I'll get there.

My question is, what advice can you guys give me in regards to up shifting and downshifting techniques?
Do I shift up to a higher gear when the indicators turn blue or just before?
And what is the most effective and correct way of downshifting?
I understand that shifting up would be different if you want to increase acceleration compared to going for top speed on a long straight...however what tips can you give me for both?

No point in learning wrong habits now so want to do it right from the start.

Shifting I usually just go by sound but best way to do it is simply look at your speed til you get used to the sound of where it needs shifting, I rarely go by anything in the dash.

Listen to the torque... Shift up too early and the car will suddenly be accelerating a lot slower than the previous gear. If you shift up and the acceleration is faster then you were likely shifting too late. You wanna find that sweet spot and it just becomes second nature after a while.

Shifting down you want to be using the gears to slow you down as well as your brakes so evenly spacing your down shifts is the best way. If I out-brake myself sometimes I won’t touch the gears until I’m almost stopped as there’s no time to change down when I know I’m not gonna make it.

Blipping the throttle on downshifts while turning can help keep the rear of the car in balance.

Short shifting (shifting at a lower gear to gain traction) is a technique used for certain corners/cars too.

Sweet thanks for the advice man, appreciate it. Seems it becomes as much of a feel you need to develop than anything else

I'll guess you don't drive a manual car in actual life but just like there, there give you a lot of extra options in you racing on sims. You can use shifting to help change the weight of the car inbetween certain corners, hold onto a gear a little longer in order to kick to the next gear just as you go over a crest for maximum gain and lap time and so on. You will love it, never ending extra learning and options. I'll never drive an automatic in this life whenever there is a possibility not to. I don't even think they are safe on the road.. I feel like.. what can I do without a clutch in an emergency..

Not a fan of automatics in real life either and have always had a manual drive. That said I'm not pushing for milliseconds in real life hence why I need some advice :)

Put about an hour on it now. I like it, for me it's better than the original AC, PC2 or GT Sport despite the 30 frames and I haven't even driven it on the wheel yet. The 30 frames is a bummer for sure but the game is still better than those others despite it. Once you get in and concentrating you overcome the frame rate, especially easy to do at night racing where you don't see the poles and trees. I will have big fun tomorrow with the wheel and no traction control. The lack of controller setting needs fixing asap and the view needs adjust ability.. but you will find one that does the job in the meantime. The game does drive easy on the controller _MUCH_ better than AC or PC2s. Similar to the default on GT Sport.

At the end I got it as well.
Partially because I wanted very badly a new racing game, partially because I am happy to support a very niche-oriented and dedicated game studio like Kunos.

Well, my impressions on Xbox One X and joypad are the following:

- Graphics. The game is very raw, primitive and looks almost unfinished. The frame rate is choppy, the stuttering is so visible to be disturbing to the eyes, and graphics-wise it does fail completely to recreate the sense of speed. Disappointing.

- Sound: Amazing and definitely over the top. Where the graphics fail to recreate the sense of speed, the sound comes to help them. Really, the implementation of sound in Kunos games is far ahead any other racing game at any level and for any platform. Superb.

- Controls: I have only tweaked the settings lowering the gamma to have less twitchy responsiveness. By doing so, I managed to have some solid and consistent driving at Nurburbring GP, putting together 7-8 laps, to test the phyisics. The physics are obviously well done, but the mix of terribile frame rate and joypad controls make this point less relevant than it should be. This aspect will need some time to be properly reviewed, waiting for other users to post some optimal settings. Sufficient.

In a nutshell, for me now ACC is a rough diamond. A game with lot of potential, but released almost in an alpha version.
I will wait for some patches to improve the weak aspects of the game, and then try it again.

I'm continuing to fiddle with wheel settings but maybe my expectation of "the best physics model ever in a sim" are too high ? What adds to the confusion is that GTS provides something vaguely in this direction, and I know its FFB isn't well regarded here, yet so far ACC feels like it provides less at the moment.

I think this has had a big impact on my intial impressions of the game. The handling and "physics" were being touted as being on another level compared to anything else and I was expecting to be blown away by the driving experience out the box but frankly the handling has very disappointing this far.

The biggest issue for me is trying to get a sense of weight from the car in ACC and lose that floatiness I know from experience that I like a heavier feel than most people out there. For example when I hear people use 2-2 on GTS and I try that the wheel feels broken, even on 5-5 it still feels broken to me.

In fairness I have persevered and daft as it may sound I think rather than chasing setting let the the handling come to you and stay well below the limit. Iv also found that certain cars are much better than others. The Ferrari and Bentley feel much nicer than the mclaren and BMW to me.

I am starting to get some satisfaction from the game as I'm only interested in the single player and the AI are decent to race plus it does sound good although I'd say that is also a bit overrated.

Is there a way to see your fastest lap on the race results screen? I'm sure on PC you just select the driver and the game tells you lap times. Can't seem to do it on console, unless I missed it.

What is the value of your DRI setting?

would anyone know the answer here, if I had a wired numeric keypad to the PS4 can I use that to assign other buttons/controls to while I use the DS4 to steer and control the car?

It doesn't currently support button boxes or keyboards, I tried using my (keyboard PCB based) button box and it doesn't work.

Such mixed reviews and opinions.

Dont think i remember a racing game being so split.

Still havent fired it up so cant judge for myself just yet, I read one comment and feel worried it's going to be awful then i read another and it gives me hope it will be good lol

Will fire it up at the weekend finally..

I can briefly summaries:

If you are looking for something a little more advanced than GT Sport(I love GT Sport btw) you get to play around with setups etc. then buy it

If your ideal racing game is NeedForSpeed, don't buy it

Don't know why people dislike Paul Ricard. I've always liked the circuit since the early Moto GP games. Love the long straight.

Reassigned buttons:

Shift up/down - []/O
Look Left/Right - ∆/X
Look Behind - L1
Change view - R1

Not even bothering with anything else.

If I could disable HUD completely, I'd do that.
