I am still at Windows 10 Home 22h2, so I am not even sure I need to do anything.
As I understand it, it is the final version of Windows 10, will not be updated anymore after Oct 2025. those updates are just security updates and should not brick WMR, as I understand it.
this site says this:
As documented on the Windows 10 Enterprise and Education and Windows 10 Home and Pro lifecycle pages, Windows 10 will reach end of support on October 14, 2025. The current version, 22H2, will be the final version of Windows 10.

I just found out about this
and tried it. so far so good.

I'm sure I read earlier today that a future update to Windows 10 will stop WMR functionality.
But there's so much disinformation regarding this whole subject it's hard to know what's true or not.
Would it kill MS to release an official statement?

And admit they are killing WMR for no good reason, I guess that would be to much for them.:grumpy:

Hopefully the new tool I have installed will stop any update and I will use my G2 and Window 10 for a long time.

Uninstall the windows update and bringing Win10 back to an early restore point (before the W10) update did bring me an error, same in safe mode.
So I did went to the blue Win10 start screen “Advantage options” —> “System restore “ that did help.
I sure now will block every Win10 update, in service, registry group policy and in the task scheduler.

I'd never buy one of these (or even a DOF Reality) in a million years, but I have one question:
Every lap you do on a track, no matter how many winding/unwinding left or right turns it has, means that your car does one complete rotation before returning to the start, and therefore this YAW contraption will also do one complete rotation.
What happens to the power and data cables for your pedals, shifters, and steering wheel, or even to your PC if you're not using a wireless HMD?
Do a twenty lap race and you'd better have long cables, because they'll be wrapped around the base of this thing twenty times by the end of it.

Quest3 users, I would like to know what is the best way to run this Meta VR device, the wired or wifi version. I only use AC, some flysims and maybe in the future a space game.
Or are both good!

hi, that depends what is "best" for you... both are good. I would say try for yourself and see which you like best!

I have tried wireless (bought a very good wifi 6n router just for that purpose ) and went back to wired.

Using the Meta Link wireless way was significantly noticeably worse pic quality (I should give it another spin to see if updates have fixed that - but reasonably wired will always win over wireless as you always have an extra layer of overhead and more chance of interference).
Then again the (paid) Remote Desktop solution was quite good and the visuals almost the same as with wire.
I played long Halflife Alyx sessions with it, hardly seeing any fidelity loss or glitch, and the freedom to turn around while standing is a very big plus.

Virtual Desktop is certainly worth the purchase and would be the better choice if you do long flight sessions I think...
as you could once being on auto pilot stand up and walk to the restroom if needed without taking of your headset!;)

The thing that got me to switch back to Link via cable though was this:
After each session in AC I needed to pick up my controller to close the Steam VR session to get back to my CM window.
With wired Link experience is much more streamlined imho. I get out of a VR session and immediately see my desktop and CM again so I don't need my controllers at all.
As someone who downloads and tests multiple cars per day , that in the end was more important to me,
than the extra immersion of not feeling the weight of a theater running from my head to the pc.
(which I also greatly reduced by hanging the cable from a higher point with just enough slack , rather then have the cable just lie on the ground, pulling the headset down on 1 side).

One more thing : once VD driver is installed, Link over cable didn't work anymore. So it is one or the other!
I need to uninstall the VD software and drivers in order to get Meta Link working again. (don't know if that has been fixed in the mean time. I tried several iterations of VD updates and finally gave up hope of it getting fixed...)
So keep that in mind when you have tried VD and want to switch back to Meta Link via cable method, you may need to uninstall Virtual Desktop first.
If not for that I would use Link cable for AC and Virtual desktop (for any other games) side by side depending the use-case.
but having to install and uninstall each time made me decide to just stick to the Link cable.
(if anyone knows this is fixed now, please let me know! )

EDIT: tried VD again and 1 more huge upside of using Meta Link cable : you can keep AC set to Oculus renderer instead of having to go via OpenVR and Steam, and you can use the ODT (Oculus Debug Tool) to set your FOV (I set it to 0.85; 0.5 ) for a huge GPU headroom saving, and to turn off ASW :

This will give you massive headroom to set render details way higher then usual...
(setting 80fps and max out to 1.3x render in the Meta Quest Link app for my Quest3)

I also have my AC/CM setting cranked up in thus way that when I now switch to OpenVR render mode ,
and not being able to use that FOV trick , I get a 200% GPU usage, a mere unplayable 35FPS !

While in Oculus render mode , I have approx 50-70% GPU usage, a steady 80 fps and the added bonus of feeling I have a helmet on!
This makes me wanna stick to the cable for AC definitely.

So uninstall VD it is again for me ...

I have used both Vd and Link cable and no need to uninstall Vd driver when using Link cable. Only thing to do is set Meta Quest Link as active OpenXR Runtime at Meta Quest Link app.

One more thing: You can use "FOV trick" with VD if you use OpenXR Toolkit and use Modded OpenXR toolkit DLL: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1r00IekBrKi5xOoaP0K65-Dc4-0_vv2eW .

Few more links about the mod :

set Meta Quest Link as active OpenXR Runtime at Meta Quest Link app --> I always did that...
still Link for me would not work until I uninstalled VD completely... (have had it at different attempts over different versions of VD and Meta software... )
Glad it's not for everyone then (but weird and I wonder what is different then for you and me ... maybe you use Win11, I'm on 10 still... )

Thanks for the OpenXR tip and video ! I will try it

Yes, I’m on win11, but strange if that is the reason for this. Hope you can resolve it!
