theres other isues with it. to play pc games it has to be tethered really to avoid issues with battery life. the headset only has 1 usbc port. so you cant use headphones and tethered at same time etc. this means you will probably be able to hear the cooling fan. once you factor in other things like wind sim noise, bass shaker noise etc heaving headphones, especially amazing ones like the g2;'s is an essential feature.ok you convinced me not to go for the pico 4... esp the no displayport is an important factor.
But I'll wait for upgrading to a reasonably prised oled one (end of the year maybe, seeing Bigscreen broke the ice , I guess other companies will follow soon...)
pico 4 also has also had very poor hardware reliability.
the g2 and picos resolution of 2160 x2160 per eye has only become truly useable with the 4090. this is coming from someone with a 3080. really these headsets need to be run at around 4200 x 4200 per eye ( i wrote a guide in the vr forums)
even the newer headsets will encounter this problem until the gpus that are reasonably priced catch up. really what is needed is quality of life fixes rather than hardware overhauls. cooling fans, lighter weight, better controllers, better lenses etc.
if you can pick up a g2 for a good price it is totally worth it now. its gonna serve you well for many years. nothing thats been announced looks like its gonna replace the g2. even people who went the varjo aero route say it wasnt much sharper and wasnt worth the extra hassle or cost.
