Inspired by Benovich Boucharenski and his excellent, immersive videos I found myself haring around Goodwood in Bazza's 60's touring cars. I specifically enjoy the Lotus Cortina and Mk2 Jags. Well, aside Benovich's excellent neck fx, the only thing missing for me was the oily exhaust smoke that these classics spew out. I think GT Legends had this feature and it's something I've seeked ever since.

So I thought that nobody else is doing it, I need to make it happen. Now, I have very limited skills in modding but managed to make it work for me. Most smoke looks wrong and disappears once the car is moving, which wouldn't do. Also it is usually white or black. What I ended up with was a bit of everything.

You will need the Touring Car Legends cars by Bazza and co. Look for the pack with the Lotus Cortina, Mini and Jag Mk2.

To install, extract the folders to your PC. Copy the 3 folders into the content>cars directory. Overwrite and done. Or copy the exhaust text and paste into your ext_config

I'm happy with the look and feel of the smoke and how long it stays and the speed of vehicle etc. Please feel free to use this and modify it or make new config files for the other classics!! Enjoy

Hello mate, glad to see you here!
Now that you got a grip on the exhaust, i always wondered if the chunks going out of tires was my imagination or if that was an older CSP add-on that got abandoned.

While you're experimentating if you find a set for those as well that would be awesome😅🤟.

I think you can go with the GPL67 black smoke upgrade as well, i have to get a grip on how you setup those smokes, but they are absolutly delightful on the Jaguar mk2 already, really adds up. Keep going!👍

Did you get my email too mate? Should have the Cortina and Mini sorted too

Alright... MASSIVE update to 1982, 1983 and 1984 seasons.

A lot of car and driver helmet skins corrected.

Fixed 90% of the crashing at Kyalami 1967 (changed the track to different version with a fix)
Fixed cars hitting the barrier in the Monaco Sainte Devoite corner (I have no idea how I did it actually, I copied the colliders.kn5 from Lotus98 Kunos and changed colliders.ini and that finally did the trick)
Thanks to advice of Thockard I managed to make the SD cars much, much better (dampers, antirollbar, suspension more travel = less cars slingshotting, etc)
Reduced the top speeds of all 1982, 1983 and 1984 cars, I think they were a bit overboard
In 1983 season Rosberg's car has the correct #1
In 1982 and 1984 seasons Piquet's car has the correct #1

Only 1984 anon_dallas (Dallas street circuit) is a bit crashy race now. But it was in the real life too.

etc etc

Car modifications (unRAR over your vanilla SD cars):

1982:

1983:

1984:

Championship files:

1982:

1983:

1984:

All track links are in my "AC Vintage F1 Seasons" channel. 1982 links are in the 1982 video presentation, etc.
That F1 1983 Brabham is so awesome, but one thing bugs me (in VR) : the track seems to pop up through the floor constantly...
What is the (best) solution for that issue ?

So can somebody help me how to remove the extra numberplates?
If the car is the Bonny Audi R8 "bm_audi_r8_lms_evo_2019" you must add the following text to the "ext_config.ini" in the folder of that special skin. But this removes the the extra numberplates only ingame, not in the CM showroom.

I'm not a real car modder. This forum has 1000000 times better modders than me but I can try.

I'm getting an error message where it looks like it's hanging on one particular file.

I've tried two or three times but it keeps sticking on this file. Skip it?

If you or others end up doing this, please clutch the rest of us by uploading these new skins to GTP and posting the link.

That's the Barrikad Audi, if I recall correctly. Same issue with the Whistleblower McLaren, the Bentley and a few other ACC/Bonny rips - they all have skins with 2 (sometimes 3!) overlapping number plates. Not good enough cars to be driven more than once or twice IMO, mostly as grid/library fillers - but the numberplate duplication is ugly and annoying.

EDIT: Can't remember which cars exactly, I deleted all skins with this issue. I think the Bonny Mercedes was the worst offender, but since the RSS Mercer released I just deleted that car outright.

It's too much of a bother IMO to go through each skin for texture updates (especially on cars still in active development), much less this small an issue - but it'd be nice to have an upload of properly displaying skins for those who do drive these cars.

Good idea. Looks fine on the Mini, smoke doesn't exactly comes from the exhaust of the Jag and is way off on the Cortina.
Needs some adjustment...:P

Is it possible to change the surface materials of a unencrypted car model, in a separate software or such?
Like to change the metal body of a car model that has weird reflective properties, to make them better.
you can alter the body's material by adding a CSP extension file (ext_config.ini) in either the car folder in a subfolder called extension, or in one or many of the car skin folders (if you only want to change one or more skins , instead of all in the same manner).

in that ext_config.ini file you put something like :

[INCLUDE: common/materials_exterior.ini]
[Material_CarPaint_Solid]
Materials = nameOfMaterial ;find this name in CSP Showroom by clicking on the body*
BaseSpecularColor = #3c0000 ;the color of the sun reflecting of the body
FresnelMax = 0.2
FresnelC = 0.1
BrightnessAdjustment = 0.8
AmbientSpecular = 0.7
SpecularBase = 0.75, 0.05
SpecularSun = 0.75, 0.5
ClearCoatThickness = 0.2
FlakesK = 1

FresnelMax and FresnelC determine how shiny the material looks (how much it reflects the surroundings)...
Making it around 0.5 will make it reflect more, and 0.02 for example it will be almost mat (and hardly show any reflections).

Play with these values and save and see the result in realtime in Showroom (not CM Showroom as it will not use CSP)!

I'm not a real car modder. This forum has 1000000 times better modders than me but I can try.
Hard to make a screenshot of that, it would need to be a video and I don't know how to do that...
but I'm sure someone here will know what I mean when I say
the track becoming visible inside the car as if sticking through the floor panel, with every bump in the road...

I thought it could be collider is wrong, but I checked in CM showroom and it seems to alligns with the bottom of the car.
Anyone any other idea?

PS: talking about the one in the screenshot above (f1_1983_brabham)

I'm reworking all my cars into CM and what would be the ideal Transmission loss for the power calculation into cm?
I usually put 13% but I don't know f it's really accurate, as the announced power max in the constructor spec are usually with 0% loss
Hi. I am using mostly https://www.automobile-catalog.com as reference for correcting the torque curve of cars. But to take transmission loss into account, the numbers have to be divided by 1.15. Type that numbers into the power.lut (save the original file first). Then simply let CM recalculate the torque and power curve (only with data) and let CM override ui_car.json. Of course this only works with N/A motors. With one or more turbos it is a little more complicated. And hyrids and electric cars dont work that way at all.

For this I made a spreadsheet like this:

Sorry maybe a stupid question but, I can not make screen shots directly from my WMR VR headset view.
If I do make a screenshot it’s always from the monitor as a source. Can somebody please give me an advice on how to make a screenshot or a video captured from your VR screen.

Okay still more fixes to SimDream 1982, 1983 and 1984 cars.

There were still issues.

Sorry for releasing these two times but I had to edit over 100 images / DDS files to get them right. These were SO messed up.

Brabham 1983 being the most important as there was no car number visible anywhere. Also both Patrese and Piquet wore Brazilian flag on the side. Fixed.

Someone reported that Brabham 1983 floor is transparent when he's using VR. I have no skills to fix that issue. Please do, if you can.

Cleaned up even more mess from the cars and tidied them up. More helmet fixes. I think all is now in pretty good order.

Regarding the 1982 championships (these cars are designed for the 82, 83, 84 custom championships). 1982 was the trickiest to get right as the power differences between Cosworths and turbos was enormous. According to old Derek Daly interview it was even 200 hp in the qualifying. And if you look at the real QF times from 1982 there's even 4 second differences. On the race trim they had to tone the boosts down though. But Rosberg won the title in 1982 with the 4th or 5th fastest car, because of Williams (relative) reliability and his consistency.

Turbo-less Cosworths Williams, McLaren and Lotus now have boost at 1.9. Turbo-less Cosworths (minor teams) have them at 1.7 or 1.8. Ferrari (turbo) boost 2.0, Brabham (turbo) boost 2.1 and Renault (turbo) boost 2.1. Toleman (turbo) boost is at 1.9.

This is significant as removing turbos completely from the Cosworths created another issue. Even with different power.lut the driver ai ratings didn't match their qualifying/race performances. At least I couldn't make them to perform properly.

For me the realistic results are priority. Even if you have all the graphics looking realistic it's not very cool to see Tolemans and Arrows on top of the qualifyings. Now it's very realistic. Piquet, Ferraris and Prost taking most of the poles.

Now the Cosworths are about 2-3 seconds slower on Monza, Hockenheim, Kyalami, Paul Ricard and other fast circuits, which is about accurate. The turbos WILL overtake you and you can't get a pole on these tracks. However, when you're driving a Cosworth your fuel economy is much better and in most races you only have to pit once. It created pretty cool races (imho). You still have a chance to win on street circuits and Jacarapegua. But I didn't have any chance on Monza and Oesterreichring even with one stop.

I created the AI engine failures before but that is not a good way to go because the cars leave on the track when they fail and create traffic issues. Playing with fuel economy settings was the most realistic way to create the 1982 championship.

I wasn't even born in 1982 but it was crazy fascinating era with full of mystique. Watching those old races is so cool.

I think I'm now finally done with these. I can't get them any better as I'm not a really good modder. But now the seasons are fully playable (as I made tons of fixes to the SD car physics, with the advice of Thockard.) Way less crashes (although 1982 was a crazy season which SHOULD have a lot of crashes).

There are so many more better modders than me. If you can fix these cars even more, please do and send me the stuff.

PS: Shin has Detroit 1982 coming and Nurburgring 1984. I've already tested the 1984 Ring and it's amazing.

Edit:

Just to report about my SD 1982, 1983 and 1984 car mods:

Played a 30 lap race on Long Beach with 1982 cars, 21 car grid. Not one single crash. Not even one.

Before the tweaks only 6-7 cars finished the race. Half of the vanilla SD cars slingshotted from those bouncy kerbs to the wall and retired. Softening the suspension and altering the ARB really did the trick. I'm very happy. Now these cars run ok. They are not RSS/VRC/ASR quality but almost decent. Top speed for non-turbos is about 300 km/h which is (again) about right. Turbo Brabham can reach 320-330 on the straights.
