edit:

Anyone hit this and post results. Lets see what the d/l speed discussion is about. Because MEGA has always been blazing fast and thats where I and some u/l to but a few are having speed issues with mega.

Its a single 512mb test data block.

In case any body wants to know how to change the timing of the flames, it's the BURN_FUEL_MULT and FLASH_THRESHOLD values in flames.ini. Try putting this at the top of flames.ini if you only want a quick pop of flame.

[HEADER]
EDIT_MODE=0
INTENSITY=65.0
EDIT_BIG=1
EDIT_STATE=2.5
BURN_FUEL_MULT=1
FLASH_THRESHOLD=0.5
Thanks for this.
What would be involved in copying the GT-type 'pop' backfire from that R8 wide body Spyder on to other cars? I think a had a go at this once but it didn't end well.

Heads up: anyone who's had missing AI headlights recently, Sol 1.4 Alpha 9 has fixed this for me.

- core: fixed a bug with headlights and ta_exp_fix not 1

Well that answers that. You were getting kB's from Mega, now your not. So it wasn't my file having issues. MEGA pumping at 100% all the time, maybe not so much.

Off topic here.

Received an email from Fanatec yesterday that customer accounts had been hacked and customer "information" had been stolen from their database. This morning I had an email from Steam saying that someone had tried to access my account and they had blocked it (whoever it was needed the passcode in the email they sent me to access my account). Does this sound like a coincidence or could it be related? Needless to day I have changed my passwords.

Thanks

I got the Fanatec email too, but nu further incidents atm...

Also received it. Thankfully I used the username and password on Fanatec that I'm pretty sure everyone including my mailman knows so hopefully there won't be a new issue that comes out of it. Maybe someone will go on a rant in the Fanatec forum and attribute it to me.... At this point in time though, I don't consider any of my online interactions secure.

As I know how to copy the physics from a car to another, maybe I will do it with the Nissan Primera P11 BTCC and copy its physics in Simdream BTCC's. For the sake of more variety :cool:
For private use of course.

Is not a good idea? 💡

Actually, they do. I've got data myself from some of KS' sources. Hell, KS ripped my dampers from the original mod car for the R34 they made, so apparently that's a good enough source too.

The reason they don't do it right is because they can use anywhere from an afternoon to a week to make a car, and I suspect it's closer to an afternoon most of the time. I don't think Aris would make simple **** ups if he was paid to give a ****.

And also the utterly retarded fanboys who have 0 years, 0 months, 0 weeks and 0 days of physics dev experience who defend the above and spread complete misinformation like "devs get all of the data" or "devs use black magic that modders can't use" doesn't help. They can release almost anything and it'll be received well.
I used to be one of those sycophants, until KS started releasing cars that I (and others whose opinions I trusted) had actually driven IRL, and we agreed they were very poor representations of the real cars. The street cars seem to be the worst affected.

On this subject, what do you think of the Kunos F40? Sadly, I don't know a single person who's driven one IRL (my friends are mainly doctors and dentists, not billionaires), but watching the onboards, the car looks vastly more stable than the one we have in AC. The F40 should (I think) have a lot of rear grip to lean on (due to weight distribution) while you're exiting corners. But like a lot of Kunos cars, it really wants to exhibit snap-power-oversteer with even mild provocation from the throttle. Is it just a tire problem or something deeper?

The KS F40 is actually harder to drive than an 80's Trans Am car with a spool diff
, which I find really hard to believe could be accurate.

PS - I really enjoy your "physics makeovers" of the stock Kunos cars over on RD.

No.
- use the physics files of a good car just as a template, and fill the values as you think they should be.

good luck

I got an email like this from steam a few months ago. Nothing to worry about. Steam is VERY safe with their authentication codes.

The proper one being the Rob Bonkers version right ? (I have 12 skins for it)...

OK....never seen this before. Someone wanna share a link for it? Never even heard of this GT3 car.

@Jerry if that doesn't work well either , let me know and I'll upload it to my mega stuff as well.

Edit : Nevermind on the 8c. Think I found the proper one one on assettoland.

I think I don't quite understand you. Fill the values with values made up by myself? Searching car values in Internet? Does not sound very promising...

As I know how to copy the physics from a car to another,
Share knowledge - teach others how to do it:)
I would also like for some mods (who have very bad physics) to copy data from the official car. But I don't know what to copy. Is that hard to explain? Maybe there's a reference to some kind of tutorial?

To be completely honest with you, it's gonna need more understanding and knowledge of the real car and real engineering in general to get a good result. It won't drive well just by copying physics from Kunos cars. The result will be strange and not realistic.

It's better to just make a mod that a dedicated physics expert would like to make custom physics for.

It's an even more difficult path...
Sometimes you just want the mod car to be physically an exact copy of the official car.
If that's all you want, you just need to unpack both cars, and replace all of the physics .ini and .lut files. However for what it's worth, I don't have the energy to explain it. All I will say is that you can copy over the physics stuff then just adjust the 3D from car.ini.

@GzeroD, any chance of showing your Ferrari 512s some more love? A classic like this needs more respect from Assetto Corsa. :)
There are quite a few versions floating around based on the same excellent 3D model but as far as I can tell they all suffer from:

  • non-working wiper (might be hard, as it's articulated?)
  • no dashboard instrument illumination
  • side-windows reflect the road in cockpit view
  • windscreen glass needs dust/reflections (looks like there is no windscreen in cockpit view)
  • janky shifting animation
  • plain red low-poly fire extinguisher
  • pretty basic interior with plain shaders
  • and the sound clips on your version at high revs (rev in neutral and you'll see)

I wonder if the 512s could be brought up to the standard of the excellent Lola T70 in your pack with the help of the GTP crew here..? The T70 is absolutely tip-top.

A difficult path that leads to a proper mod that drives, handles, corners, pitches and handles. And with it comes credibility, that many, many cars or authors have neither. No offensive to them. Just guessing or pulling numbers out of thin air based on how ones feel of said car 'should drive' leads to more populating of half cheeky versions of a car.

I'd advise to anyone, when ArchKy speaks about geometry, suspensions, dampers, spring rates etc that you listen, if that's what your in to.

An easy guide? to cloning car physics.

Rename;
car.ini
brakes.ini
suspensions.ini
tyre.ini
to *_old.ini

Keep;
ambient_shadows.ini
analog_instruments.ini
blurred_objects.ini
damage.ini
digital_instruments.ini
flames_presets.ini
flames.ini
lights.ini
lods.ini
mirrors.ini
proview_nodes.ini
suspension_graphics.ini

Delete or overwrite everything else with the data from the donor car

Compare the *_old.ini's to the new versions
Change the cars name in car.ini
Change the brake glow objects in brakes.ini
Change the tyre sizes in tyres.ini (later use CM to check these sizes match the model) Differences in front wheel diameter do affect scrub and trail, but unless large these changes shouldn't ruin the cars handling.
Change the wheelbase and track in suspensions.ini (also [GRAPHICS_OFFSETS])
Take the difference in tyre radius, if the tyre radius is smaller than the donated one then subtract from 'BASEY=' found in suspensions ini. And vice versa (Careful, 'BASEY=' is usually negative so mind your algebra)
Use CM showroom, align using data, and fiddle with 'GRAPHICS_OFFSET=' inside car.ini to place the car back over its wheels.
Use CM showroom, align using data, and fiddle with 'TRACK=' inside suspensions.ini along with [GRAPHICS_OFFSETS] to fine tune the wheel's positions. Note that CM doesn't handle the offsets properly and you will need to check these ingame, using the dev suspensions app. (Enable Dev apps in CM, activate ingame and use numpad 1,2,3,4 to show the wheels.)

I'll take another pass at it. The main problem was the VERY high poly model, but lately I have got better at reducing poly counts so revisiting the car may be worth while.
