I can think of just 1 - Port Vale - I don't think that is a place...

Otherwise, I'll take a shot in the dark and say it's a trick question, and there are 0..

However, Crystal Palace Football Club was formed by the former builders of the Crystal Palace, and the name comes from the building and not the area of the same name.

So I'd give TyrrellRacing bonus credit for that one. How many did you have in mind, Fastas?

Tranmere Rovers are based in Birkenhead but I'm not sure if Tranmere is anything geographical. Could be a possibility.

Stupidly wild guess, but Notts County?

Because I don't think there's a place by the actual name of Notts.

But Nottinghamshire is. Notts is a contraction of Nottingham, ergo "Nottingham County".

It's a tough question. Depends what you class as geographic...

Short for Nottingham.

I think it is anyway, never heard it called Nottingham County before come to think of it.

Ok, yes there is a Queens Park,.. please let me rephase the question...How many English League teams are not tied to or have non-geographical names and, what are they?

Surely every team is tied down to a geographical location?

But how is Queens Park Rangers an answer if they're named after Queen's Park in London? Surely that is geographical.

Port Vale is a correct answer though. They're named after the pub where they were founded, and later dropped Burslem from their name. Goddammit I knew that one...

I'll let Ferarri 458 take the next question.

Or since I'm wrong.. I dunno..

There's technically only three.

Port Vale - as mentioned, it's named for an area on the canals near Stoke in a valley where the docks were, but that area has never been named "Port Vale".

Crystal Palace - again, as mentioned, named for The Crystal Palace building. The area - technically part of Penge - was dubbed "Crystal Palace" much later.

Arsenal - originally "Woolwich Arsenal" after the Royal Arsenal (actually they were originally "Dial Square", then "Royal Arsenal", then "Woolwich Arsenal") building in Woolwich. When they moved to Highbury, they just became "Arsenal". They're named after a building, like Crystal Palace. There is an Arsenal stop on the London Underground but it's named for the club and there is no Arsenal area of London.

So since Famine actually knows he may as well ask the next question..

Of course there's also Hull City, which isn't named for a place but a giant hole in the ground filled with excrement and mackerel.

Queens Park, as in the football club, is the name of a district or administrative region. Checking the Club pages; some of the founding players came from that district but the club isn't located there. Maybe that's tedius.

Well I have a good one so I'm taking charge.

Sheffield Wednesday are famously named after a day of the week.
Which other football team is also named after a day of the week?

Nottingham Tuesday.

But seriously I know this one but can't think of the name..

I think it would be too obvious if they were members of the 92. Further afield.

Same country or abroad? I have a feeling a Spanish team have a name of a day.

No, no, it's not a continental question. Sorry if that wasn't clear.

So we have Sheffield Wednesday, are there any other teams like .... Monday or .... Sunday?

Yes. There is one. Name it!

How unfair would it be for me, half-Welsh and a Wednesdayite, to answer this question?

Just did some research there because I couldn't think of the name and I was surprised that what I was thinking doesn't exist cause I was thinking it'd be in the 92.

Very hard though.

Oh, so there was me thinking I could pick a question which could fool you all (!)

But it's only easy if you know...

I know you know it so say it. :D

I know it too.. But I cheated to find out so I can't say.

I was sure Sheffield Tuesday was a club, no idea where I got that from.

I think this ends in Friday but I can't put my finger on it.
