ok, time for another dubious question then (gulp)..there are 11 English football clubs* whose name ends with a word that is unique to them (not including FC).

Example Aston Villa

Can you name the other 10?

*that I'm thinking of right now

Preston North End
Milton Keynes Dons
Plymouth Argyle
Sheffield Wednesday
Accrington Stanley

Port Vale and Crewe Alexandra?

and Nottingham Forest and Leyton Orient.

And Crystal Palace.

And Dagenham & Redbridge.

And Tottenham Hotspur.

And Queen's Park Rangers.

That's 14...

I am going to have to call myself out here. I must own the worst 'The Greatest Football Trivia Book Ever...'. book, ever. FFS, it's even endorsed by John Motson!

So,... Of the 11 I had in mind* (see above!) correct answers so far are..

Villa
Alexandra
Orient
Forest (spit)
Argyle
Vale
End
Rangers
Hotspur

It doesn't even list Wednesday! It does have two others though..

I should add the book was published in 2004.

Then it might have Borough (Stevenage used to be called Stevenage Borough) and Kidderminster Harriers (who aren't in the league any more).

Shouldn't Hearts not count as it's Hearts of Midlothian?

Or does the place not technically exist? I know West and East Lothian exist.
Yes, Midlothian is a place, but the Heart of Midlothian is not in it.

This is the Heart of Midlothian, which is in Edinburgh, as are Hearts, but Edinburgh is not in Midlothian.

Although you probably could argue it either way, it was a correct answer for my purposes.

To keep this going, here's a 3 parter, in my continued quest to keep going on about Scottish footie...

At £12 million, who is the most expensive transfer into Scottish football?

At £9.5 million, who is the most expensive transfer out of Scottish football?

And at £4.4, who is the most expensive transfer between Scottish clubs?

Craig Whyte?

Didn't Sunderland pay a lot for Craig Gordon, was it him or has someone been sold for more than that? My knowledge of Scottish football isn't the best.:sly:

They did, but Gordon went for £9 million. The guy that went for 9.5 went from Celtic to somewhere you wouldn't really expect*, and as a further clue, he's not Scottish.

* But to a country that has a lot of money

As soon as you said that I knew who it was, Aiden McGeady to Spartak Moscow, I didn't know it was for so much though.:sly:

Correct. Voted 2nd best winger in Russia 2010.

into: Maybe Paul Gascoigne, but he wasn't a striker.

between: Derek Riordan, Hibs > Celtic? But he wasn't a midfielder...

But as for the between. Midfielder? It's got to be Hibs -> Celtic. Did Scott Brown come from Hibernian?
