Who is the only Malaysian to play in the Premier League?

Just a guess at Al-Habsi? But I have a feeling he's Egyptian.

Swing and a miss. He's from Oman, also being the only Omani to play.

But we're looking for Malaysia. Keep trying!

Who is the only Malaysian to play in the Premier League?

All of them - the Malaysian premier league is called the "Premier League".

As for ours... Unno. QPR player?

Are one of the city owners a registered player? :dopey:

EDIT: Wait there from the UAE aren't they..

A clue? Go on then.

This player still plays and has only played for four British teams in his entire career.

Something tells me he's Malaysian born but to one or both British parents and has lived in Britain for most of his life?

No. I can only think of a handful of non-British born British players in the Premier League and there's no Malaysians on the list.

Had a look at the 2009 Mayasian national team and think I know who it is. Still not 100% though, can I say who I think it is?

I suspect you'll be wanting to look at the Welsh, Scottish or Nornirish ones. Maybe England, but I can't even think of an England player not born somewhere in the British Isles since Owen Hargreaves.

Or before.

But can I say anyway too see if I'm right? If I am I have no problem in not taking/being given the point.

Only reason I didn't say yet is because I did some research.

Is it Abdulrami? Dunno if I spelt it right but I remember a similar sounding name in the Prem before.

Incorrect, sorry.

Famine has got the right idea as it was, but I still need the right name.

Or before.

As it turns out, that would have been an excellent question.

Who didn't know that Hargreaves was Canadian? Before him, it might be John Barnes.

He's the only England player to have never lived in England before playing for England and the second England player to have never played football in England before playing for England.

Weird, huh?

This question is doing my head in.. :grumpy:

Can't even find the answer on Google to put my mind at rest.. :dopey:

I actually can and now have. But since I found it rather than guessed it, I'm not going to put your mind at rest.

Though I can only find three clubs he played for - one of them twice, separated by another.

This confirms that I now know that you know.

Come now Famine, share it with the class... Otherwise I stay top of the leaderboard!

If I can just nip in here and steal the ball from Famine as he's about to take his shot, that'll be Shaun Maloney.

And daan with the steal!

Shaun Maloney was born in Miri, Malaysia on the island of Borneo. He moved with his mum to Scotland when he was five years old. Two spells with Celtic punctured with a brief tenure at Aston Villa, Maloney now plays for Wigan Athletic and is the only 'Malaysian' to have played in the English top flight.

Over to daan for the next question...

He's the only England player to have never lived in England before playing for England and the second England player to have never played football in England before playing for England.

This, by the way, is an excellent piece of trivium. Owen Hargreaves is the perfect retort when people scoff at the idea of Mikel Arteta playing for England despite being Spanish. As if England wouldn't benefit from a player like Arteta if he was eligable to play (!)

I don't even know what the Rous Cup is! Unless that's supposed to be part of the question...

It was a short lived fixture that appeared for 5 years in the late '80s after the Home Championship was cancelled, and that's all the clues...
