I said automatic. :) We're talking GT3 and without a clutch, I don't see the point in manual shifting at all. If you prefer it, that's fine, but I don't think it's a big deal.

Please don't ban me! I'm new!

I was just messing... youu'll help urself if youu use a manual tranny... When ever i try to drift with an auto, it keeps switching back between gears during a drift and becomes annoying... manual gives u better control of the car

i find the game more funner and there is more control, though i never drove stick in real life to be honest so it be hell if clutch was involved

I was serious. I've been using automatic the whole time. Actually, I'm playing around with manual right now. It's way easier to keep a consistant drift cuz you can downshift and get your revs way up.

I use auto. :odd: I cant get the hang of Manual, plus I'm still working on the whole FR thing, so I dont have time to worry about my shifting..

it's fine, because AUTO REQUIRES KNOWING THE CAR MORE, you have to know what speed to enter the corner in or else you'll lose speed and drop to an undesired gear and yopu have a lagrer chance of spinning out or completly gaining traction./

yeah, but in Manual you have to have the knowledge to know when to shift, what would be the peak time to shift so forth.

well that's not hard to figure out....you can just you know...look at the rpm'
s...if they're dropping to fast for you liking you should know what to do, or you should be driving.

Now now.

Sure it matters.
With the couple hours I've spent using manual, it's already second nature to me. It's not hard or tiring like I see some people complaining.

It totally adds to the understanding of your vehicle. I feel that you have to listen to the car instead of look at the gauges, automatically knowing what gear you are in, exactly how fast you are going by what gear and what sound the engine is making. You know when your rpm's are peaking before it even starts to bounce so you shift when the time is right.

Auto is suitable for racing cuz you can focus more on the race and what is going on around you without having to worry about shifting all the time, or downshifting with your rpm's too high and causing your tires to spin. Manual is ideal for drifting though, in my opinion.

Manual is definately ideal for drifitng, no doubt about it. Also, I don't look at the tach anymore, it's second nature like I said. At least I don't think I look at the tach... I don't even notice.

I actually use manual more often when racing than drifting. I can conserve my tires better in longer races if I use manual, because I can stay in a higher gear in tight corners and reduce wheel spin.

Awesome.

*drifts the tunnel on Midfield in his stock S13 1800cc*

Day one and it already has 220km on it.
I hope theres a drifting scene in GT4. Like judges and stuff.
It's so cool.
More of a martial art than racing ever will be.

I am only saying things I find out for myself it's fun learning but I ask questions when I feel the need. Sessioning some of these crazy new tracks in GT4, ONLINE, should be great.

I agree, I don't even think about shifting anymore. I've never even tried using automatic in GT3. :D

How exactly do people here have 'battles'?

I still really don't understand that :P

BTW, I found every issue of the Initial D comics from volume 1 to like volume 16, with about ten 40 page issues in each volume, all scanned and .rar'd

Well, in real life my car is a stick, but in the game, with the lack of a clutch and no real shifting effect (as in moving in a non linear motion from gear to gear) there (in my opinion) is no fun in shifting, it just leads to problems down the line. As far as drifting is concerned, shift lock (R2 trick) and simple throttle manipulation always do the trick for me. (I the game that is)

Shadow drifter i like you...

That is exaclty the point i was making with my vauge but true i doesnt matter because the difference between auto and manual in the game are not the same in real life... and the real life advantages of manual are not realized in the game... the r2 trick with braking and throttle manipulation is sufficient. Manual may give you more control over you wheel spin and such... but the same effect can be relaized with throttle control which i believe is more important than concentrating on shifts... I do not care wether or not you drive with manual... In racing here at gtp there are several fast people who drive on auto rather than manual... now if you can get fast on auto in gt3 then i assure you that it will not make a whole lot of difference in drifting simply because it can be compensated for with other activities... I would much rather concentrate upon my line and my throttle than gears... your brain can only do so many things at once... i would say that throttle control is instinctive for me as you all would say shifting is for you... but that doesnt mean that it takes time for you to react and that it takes brain cells to compute... Its not that i cannot drive manual... i too drive a stick... and have raced manual in gt3... i believe that there are more important things to be worriying yourself with in this game...
