New drama hits ATCC
March 30th 2015
The new GTOR series haven't reached halfway through its maiden season yet that polemics and clashes start to bloom. In case you haven't heard about it already, Ford is heavily rumored to withdraw its full support to the independent team On Strike Racing after their spokesman publicly criticized the car and the inability of the manufacturer to help getting things the right way this weekend.
The relationship didn't start on the right foot, the team couldn't attend the first two rounds due to technical problems with the car and couldn't pass the safety crash tests on time. Worried about its brand image, Ford committed full support to the indy team, the only full time Mustang on the grid at the time.
Unfortunately things didn't go as plan and the results of the 3rd round at Midfield were way below expectations. Despite the optimistic and confident declarations in both official conferences and paddock interviews, the tension between the manufacturer and the team was palpable.
"The Mustang ? It's the typical American car cliche : only good for straight-lines !" said the team's driver, David Talle, quickly withdrawing its declaration, stating it was only a banter, not to take seriously.

The situation got even worse in last round in the British double header. Poor results at Brands Hatch and a first corner incident in London (involving several cars) due to a suspected suspension failure, forcing the team to retire early and preventing them from taking part in the last race. The team appealed the sanction but it is more likely the GTOR/ATCC direction won't step back :
"It isn't a problem of who's at fault." declared an ATCC official
"If there's a safety issue no matter if it comes from the driver or the car. Any safety deficit is to be penalized.".
It was the straw that broke the camel's back.
The following days things escalated, both putting the blame on each other, resulting in a rumor that Ford broke the team's contract. No one would answer our questions on the matter among both On Strike Racing and Ford Motorsport division.
In the meantime BMW conducted private testing at the Nürburgring circuit this morning and some crew members of On Strike Racing were seen on the trackside. A couple of cars were running on the track including a M4 Coupé in testing livery, looking very similar to the ATCC's M4 specs. Moreover the driver seen on some pictures is suspected to be David Talle, wearing his characteristic yellow and turquoise helmet.
If all this prove to be true, the future of On Strike Racing in ATCC doesn't look that dark, although a switch of manufacturer will mean dropping the few championship points the team hardly earned this far.
