Well, last week we had a Turtle, and this week we have GTTCC-3 Division 2 Driver's Champion, Independents Champion AND Manufacturer's Champion with BMW, @Doomstorm16, with us today, this should be a good one!
1. What drew you to the ATCC?
At the time I signed up for the ATCC I'd never done any organised racing, only random online lobbies. So I guess my biggest attraction was clean racing over a longer(ish) distance in cars I know fairly well. I also thought that the multi-class would be interesting as I'd obviously never tried anything like that.
2. Do you have any real-life racing experience? (I.e; karts, track-days)
I've done a fair bit of karting over time but they were just like track days, there wasn't any real races. I would like to go to a real track day in the future though, donnington's not far away...
3. What's your biggest Gran Turismo Racing Achievement?
Due to my short time racing on this site I only have one achievement and that would be winning the independents, manufacturers and hopefully the drivers championship in D2 of the GTTCC.
(Editors Note: At time of interview, he hadn't but he has now secured the Driver's Title)
4. Which ATCC race were you most looking forward to?
Laguna is always a track that I've had decent pace at
5. Which ATCC race were you least looking forward to?
Despite being my home race I would say Silverstone, I'm just dreadfully slow and usually spin at some point as well.
6. How do you get prepared for a race, whether in the virtual world or real world?
To be honest, I don't really. I usually go on a few days before a race to set my transmission top speed and get an idea of braking points but other than that I find practice laps to be pointless for me. I always seem to find loads of time when you put someone in front of me!
7. What's your favourite Racing Discipline? (I.e; Open-Wheel, Touring, Endurance)
To watch, open wheel and touring and moto GP I like the whole pushing and shoving for position you get in something like the BTCC and how close it is (Race 2 at brands hatch indy was won by 0.04 seconds) and I like the complexity of open wheel and the constant strategy alterations on the fly. Moto GP is always a good watch because of the crazy overtakes that people pull off. they're great! To drive, I like endurance the most as I like to be able to settle in and let consistency rather than pace take over and I do like me a good long race!
8. Who's your favourite racing driver of all-time?
I know this is a bit of a boring choice but I'm going to say Lewis Hamilton. He way not be the best qualifier in racing, but I just think the way he excels on Sundays is incredible. Also the better in race than in qualifying kind of reflects me really.
9. What would be the biggest racing event in the world, in your opinion?
I personally think it's the 24 hours of le mans. It's the ultimate test of car and driver combined. Although I will admit it gets a bit boring to watch.
10. Finally, what are your aspirations for the ATCC?
Firstly, not finish last in the standings! Secondly, stop having to be in other places on race day!
Thank you Doomstorm16 for that brilliant interview, and we can't wait to see more of you in the ATCC!
