TESTING SESSION :

7pm Saturday night 19th July

Room Host: VENDALISM

I can't make this, date tonight. Shame because I've no idea yet how the tyre wear goes on these cars. I might open a room this afternoon for practice.

With the tyre rules as I read them, its safe to say that you can not use one compound more than once in a race (provided you only make 2 stops)?

Hey ag,

We created this ATL thread as it's the most easy way for us to communicate all relevant race event information to all drivers so we don't have to use PSN's basic messaging interface. All participating drivers should regularly check for updates.

I think $400 is not a bad deal as the price of racing rigs/cockpits has come down a fair bit given the amount of new manufactures that have entered the market over the last couple of years. I remember paying 2k for my Vision Racer VR3 back in 2010 and that was with no wheel or pedals.:banghead:

Launch it ag ! ;)
That is very true Ven. Havnt got the wheel yet, I could only get him down to 450. Not sure if thats a good deal when the cockpit is on ebay brand new for 400, and if you are patient you can get a g27 for 250 or less so ill wait a little bit. Sale on Ebay tomorow so ill have a look at that.

Hey nas,

Let me know when your online this avo and I will talk you through the new tyre regs ?

Your qualifying tyre choice = 2 sets ,so if you use soft compound during qualifying and as your start race compound, you will have no soft compound left for that specific race. But if you decide to use the Med or Hard compound for qualifying then you will have 2 sets of soft,1 set Med & 4 sets Hard compound to use during the race.

As stated in new tyre regulations:

"You will also start the race on your qualifying tyre. The qualifying tyre and race start tyre count as 2 sets"
The tyre limits for each compound are;

Racing Softs = 2 Sets
Racing Mediums = 3 Sets
Racing Hards = 4 Sets

YOU MUST DO A MINIMUM OF 5 LAPS ON EACH SET OF TYRES
(including your in and out lap)

Go with the new g27 and new rig from ebay when on sale 👍

Really surprised about the tyre wear on this car. My RS tyres lasted the same as everyone else's or better, I was faster in the practice race than everyone else in the first stint. After switching to RH though (and not being able to find the pit entry losing 6 seconds or so before just going around for another lap haha), my tyres wore actually faster on RH than on the RS. It was surprising since I was not exactly careful with the RS, I was smoking them up out of every corner as I wanted to see how they would cope.

I think what happened was that they were just spinning more due to less grip and this made the difference (I was spinning the RS in 3rd, the RH in 4th). But I am still surprised, even the fronts wore fast. Going to have to be careful in the race.

Missed out on practice Saturday night due to our slot car race meet with 13 blokes and 3 classes of cars to run makes for long night anybody got a half descent lap time for us to work on for Mondays race cheers Phil.b

I found the same results....

Very similar degradation speeds between all three compounds .

It will be an interesting race that's for sure

Hey Phil,

Cheers for the update m8:tup:

Tony mentioned you guys had a race meeting on Sat night. We ran a short 17 lap race with around 7 drivers, we had a top qualifying time of 1:47.1... Set by nas ,second on the grid was Lionface with a time of 1:47.2.. Fastest lap time I think during the race was set by nas at 1:47.6..?

Gents,

As Derek mentioned in a earlier post....

Can we all please make sure we have the following settings & specific ports setup on your router so we can minimise any compatibility and connection issues ?

quote="Derek Nickels, post: 9890566, member: 257144"]This is correct, but it is only part of the issue
Everyone needs to do the following to eliminate the issues.

1: Put a static IP address on their PS3
2: Set the router to run the PS3 signal through the DMZ(Demilitarized Zone) to remove the firewalls inside the router. You don't need them as the PSN has it's own, that's why you have to sign in
3:Enter the following port numbers in the Port forwarding/virtual server.80,443,465,983,3478,3658,5223,10070. They need to be set to both TCP & UDP Various applications can block specific local computers from accessing the net via IP address. They can also block specific TCP or UDPports such as the ports used by the PSN,creating issues. Essentially there are 8 ports, each for 2 connections, this is why it is normally 2 people that have issues at the same time. When you get your router,it is configured for general use,and some of the above ports can be nominated for web protocols, blocking it for the PSN.e.g. My NetcommWireless NB604N had Ports 80 & 3478 nominated for web protocols, blocking them to the PSN,and taking out 4 people. Before i had them setup,i always found lobbies i hosted
went fine until the numbers reached 10-12.
This link takes you to a database of 10,000's of make/model routers, with step by step screenshot instructions of what to do,where & how. http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/default.htm
You don't need to download the checker programme, just follow the instructions & all will be good, but remember you have to use the PS3 IP address.
4:The main benefit of all being on each others friends list is to be using friends only rooms on unfixed ownership, which only works well if all are on each others list. Instability will be created though if some don't have their NAT of at least 2.

The only other thing is that privacy settings cannot be set "on" in anyway, shape or form. The person with them on will not be visible to anyone that they aren't friends with, but they will receive lag punts & damage from the "private" person.

In case some didn't know,Mobile Broadband is NOT an acceptable way to connect.Although it may work, lag & incompatibility will always be an issue, for many reasons, but primarily due to inconsistent ping, bandshift & network congestion. If anyone doesn't believe me,please feel free to call Playstation Support, they will confirm that MBB is not officially supported by the PSN[/quote]

Hey ag78,

Just follow the below instructions....

Setting a Static IP Address on the Playstation 3

It is very important to setup a static ip address, if you are going to use port forwarding. When you have port forwarding setup, your router forwards ports to an ip address that you specify. Without setting up a static ip address port forwarding will probably work when you initially set it up, but after restarting your PS3 it may get a different ip address. When this happens the ports will no longer be forwarded to your PS3's ip address. So the port forwarding configuration will not work.

What is an ip address?
IP addresses are four sets of numbers separated by periods that allow computers to identify each other. Every computer has at least one ip address, and two devices should never have the same ip address. If they do, neither of them will be able to connect to the internet. There is a lot of information at the following link. You don't need all of it. But if you want to know more about how networks work, you'll find it there. For more information on ip addresses, subnets, and gateways go here

Dynamic vs Static IPs Most routers assign dynamic IP addresses by default. They do this because dynamic ip address networks require no configuration. The end user can simply plug their computer or console in, and their network will work. When ip addresses are assigned dynamically, the router is the one that assigns them. Every time a computer or console reboots it asks the router for an ip address. The router then hands it an ip address that has not already been handed out to another computer or console. This is important to note. When you set your PS3 to a static ip address, the router does not know that the PS3 is using that ip address. So the very same ip address may be handed to another computer or console later, and that will prevent both devices from connecting to the internet. So when you asign a static IP addresses, it's important to assign an IP address that will not be handed out to other devices by the dynamic IP address server. The dynamic IP address server is generally refered to as the dhcp server.

Setting up a static ip for your PS3.

PS3_Static_IP_Settings.jpg

Step 1:
Turn on your PS3, and then navigate to the Settings option on the main menu.

PS3_Static_IP_Network_Settings.jpg

Step 2:
Move down this list to Network Settings. Network Settings should be at the very bottom of the list.

PS3_Static_IP_Internet_Connection_Settings.jpg

Step 3:
After you have selected Network Setting, move to the right and select Settings and Connection Status List in the list that comes up.

PS3_Static_IP_Settings_and_Connection_Status_List_Details.jpg

Step 4:
Write down the IP Address, Subnet Mask, and Default Router displayed here. You will use same Subnet Mask, and Default Router down below. You will change the last octet of the IP Address and enter it below as well. More on how to do that later. Go ahead and go back to the Netowrk Settings menu.

PS3_Static_IP_Internet_Connection_Settings.jpg

Step 5:
After you have selected Network Setting, move to the right and select Internet Connection Settings in the list that comes up.

PS3_Static_IP_Internet_Connection_Settings_Prompt.jpg

Step 6:
An short message will pop up. Press Ok to move on.

PS3_Static_IP_Method_Custom.jpg

Step 7:
Select Custom for the setup method.

PS3_Static_IP_Wired_Wireless.jpg

Step 8:
On the next page select Wired or Wireless connection depending upon how your PS3 is connected to your network.

PS3_Static_IP_Manual_Settings.jpg

Step 9:
We are going to setup this connection manually so we can forward ports to your PS3. So select Manual Settings.

PS3_Static_IP_Speed_and_Duplex.jpg

Step 10:
Auto-Detect the speed and duplex settings.

PS3_Static_IP_Address_Settings.jpg

Step 11:
We are going select Manual Settings on the IP Address Setting page.

PS3_Static_IP_Setup.jpg

Step 12:
Enter the the ip address you want to use for your PS3 into this page. It's important to choose an ip address that not in your router's dhcp range. You can check this by login in to your router and looking at it's dhcp or LAN page. Alternatively you can just pick an ip address that is not close to the ip address we found earlier. For instance if your PS3 was using something like 192.168.0.2, then you would want the new ip address to be something like 192.168.0.200. If your PS3 was using something like 192.168.0.240, then you would want the new ip address to be something like 192.168.0.2. Only the last group of numbers on the ip address should change, and that group of numbers would range from 2 to 254. Please, don't over think this just pick a number and go with it. I have just tried to provide some guidelines here so you can pick a better number.

Enter the Default Gatway and Subnet Mask we wrote down earlier.

You will also have to specify the DNS servers your PS3 will be using. This is usually required when your network's router is not passing the dns server information to the computers that have static ip address properly. First you need to find out what DNS servers your PS3 should be set to. The easiest way to do this is to give your ISP a call. They will probably ask you why you need them. Tell them the truth, your PS3 is requesting them. They should give you two ip addresses, one for the primary dns server and one for the secondary dns server.

PS3_Static_IP_MTU.jpg

Step 13:
Select Automatic for the MTU settings.

PS3_Static_IP_Proxy_Server.jpg

Step 14:
You should almost always select Do Not Use on the Proxy Server page. The only time you need to setup proxy server settings is when you connect through a proxy server. If you were doing that, you would have been given specific instructions from your isp on how to setup this section.

PS3_Static_IP_UPNP.jpg

Step 15:
Set the UPNP options to Disable. UPNP should be turned off so it doesn't try to use it, instead of your port forwarding configuration.

PS3_Static_IP_Verify_Details.jpg

Step 16:
Your PS3's IP Address should be Confirmed. If it is not then you have made an error in setting up the static ip address for your PS3.

PS3_Static_IP_Save_Complete.jpg

Step 17:
Your PS3 should save your settings. Select the Test Connection option on this page.

PS3_Static_IP_Test_Connection_Results.jpg

Step 18:
All of the tests should pass, except the UPNP test. We previously disabled it. If you have already forwarded ports, you should come back with a NAT Type 2.

Port forwarding you can do yourself by using this link http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/default.htm or just call your ISP and ask them to set it for you based on the posted information.

If you still have problems Derek (Dbn26) or nasanu our in house IT gurus will be happy to assist.

Hi guys,

I don't know if this has been discussed amongst you but the Red Bull Ring appears to still have problems with races in this car and from time to time, so does Mount Panorama. One way to prevent them is by everyone remaining in the pits before the race begins. I hope it is fixed by the time you get there...

Also, just to say if anyone doesn't have a base tune for the Lotus, check out mine at https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/tunes/ayrton-senna-lotus-97t-85.443 :)

Wish I was racing in this, all the best!

Hi All

Thoroughly enjoyed the race last night other than getting punted off  :sly: by someone overtaking me after giving them plenty of racing room 👍 👍 on lap 20 coming out of turn 14 (Campus) & then later being punted out of the race completely :mad: on lap 30 (running in 6th place) by the PSN

Yes, I need to do some work on my car set up to match the speed of the front runners but someone needs to fill the minor spots on the grid in order to have a race.

see you next week.

Hey Megs, unlucky pal. It would be nice if the other members of championship would at least post here either to update when they will be there or pull out all together so we can fill with the grid. Also start time? Im rushing around trying to get the kids to bed by 8pm est and we dont start till almost 8 45. Personaly id prefer a later start time so I done have to rush. Good race by the font runners and good win Greasy.Btw, was I lagging at all?

Hi Guys, yes, it can be very frustrating at time Terry, we are all having our own race in the mid pack and with set up and more driving we'll catch those faster guys at the front! Good race albiet a lonely one as I spent most of my laps with no one in sight front or back . . . but at least that made me concentrate on actually driving!!! I tried to be mindful of the faster guys coming through as I've been lapped in the past, due to speed or errors or a combination of both . . . but sometimes even doing the right thing can turn to crap! Hahahahaa - but anyway . . . i'll keep plugging away . . . and I didn't see you lagging at all Golfer??

We will catch those guys Gas! I have a G27 and a GT Art cockpit on the way, hopefully here by the end of the week! I just had a look at the incident Megs. Tough one, glad im not making these decisions!

great race last night had a good start but the medium tyres gave me very poor grip and had a spin and just missed the wall and damage was zero left me well behind and got stuck in rear pack challenge kept to my race plan of med, soft, hard, hard long last stint home, did have some drama hit capella13b on lap 14 he was on hard tyres i was on softs and just missed timed his early brake point, did have some laps with meggs mid way slight contact but nothing too hard on my side check replay for that and last up nearly took out greasy07 on the 2nd last lap seen ven but not greasy
well done winner and hope for some more racers next race cheers phil.b

Gents,

We had a good turn out last night and I'm glad we all had a fun time driving with the new tyre regs and race settings.
My strategy was to conserve my tyres as much as possible and was working well until I entered the pits for the third time and did not have enough time to select my next compound choice of softs and automatically selected my current medium compound.:banghead:
After my last pit I was behind in the time I had set in my strategy, but was positioned well due to other drivers mistakes.I found my self approaching Meggs on the last part of the race and noticed he was lagging and I had lost a fair bit of time trying to pass with out getting lag punted ,as each time I got closer his car would just punt a few meters from my front.By the last lap I had Greasy right on my back coming into La Source so I went wide and waited for him to pass knowing I would very easily pass him on Kemmel.I executed the pass on him as planned, and left him with plenty of room on his race line but for reasons unknowing to me he hit my back right :banghead:,and by the time I reached Lecombes and went to accelerate ,due to the damaged back right the car lost traction and I went off and so did my race victory.:banghead:
Other than that it was an enjoyable race.

RACE INCIDENTS CURRENTLY UNDER INVESTIGATION

  • Race Incident 1: At Race start just before entry in to La Source, involving Greasy & Mixi resulting in Mixi going of the circuit.

  • Race Incident 2:Lap 20 At Campus, involving nasanu and Meggs resulting in Meggs going of the circuit.

  • Race Incident 3: Last lap at the end of Kemmel, involving Greasy and VEN resulting in VEN receiving damage to his car while leading the race.

Gents please remember we all must comply with ATL's Race Rules & Regulations and Penalties System.

9: PENALTIES

Penalties will be handed out when the situation calls for it. If you see an incident you wish to be looked over, send a PM on
to a steward and they will review the replay (please include what lap it happened on and who the victim/accused was). Penalties can be handed out for a number of offences, ranging from dangerous driving to holding up a car trying to lap you.
Race Disqualification: This will occur for gross misconduct. I.e. not pitting, etc.
10 -25 second penalty: Dangerous driving, causing multiple incidents, etc.
50 second penalty: Absurd dangerous driving, causing totally avoidable incidents, etc.

"Race Hard but Clean & Redress mistakes immediately,Easy!"

Because if we don't we all might as well be racing in public lobbies :banghead:

Race incident findings will be announced tomorrow.

By the last lap I had Greasy right on my back

Wait so when I got past you that would have been for the lead?... Crazy. At that point I thought you were close to last (which is why I was not fussed about pitting as soon as I passed with still fresh tyres), Greasy was off into the distance and I was just going to go for a safety pit to cover off mixi for second.

My race started out well enough, though I was a little slow into the first turn. See I have to go through a start procedure (to setup my wheel mainly). As soon as the car is on track I have to hold two buttons on the wheel, wait for flashes on an LED, then hold them down again and wait again. Then I have to cycle though views to get back to the view I use. I was still cycling views going into the first turn and I braked early for fear of breaking too late. I think I may have caused some moments behind, not sure.

But then all was going to plan. Vendalism left me alone then droped right down the order, I thought he got into an accident. By lap 8 or so I had something like a 25 second lead to Greasy with tyres in the 6s, another 4 laps to make my 3 stop strategy was no problem, this race was in the bag.

By lap 11 I was 6 seconds a lap off the pace and getting much slower, on lap 12 I knew at this rate I was going to emerge from the pits well behind Greasy who pitted before me and was getting a massive undercut. I thought I was being a pussy on my 2 out of 10 rear tyres and figured I should just go flat out in the high speed stuff as the downforce would just stick it. One four wheel slide across the tack later and a trip to the barrier saw me limping back to the pits with cars streaming past me. When I did get back to the pits I made a fueling mistake meaning I would be slow in the next stint also. From this point on the race is a bit of a blur. I know I was angry about how I through my race away when I pitted again to get softs and set some crazy fast laps after that. But then I started to come up to lapped traffic and kept getting into trouble.

I think I hit everyone at some stage apart from Greasy and Vendalism. One was totally my fault.. Kind of. Near the end of the race fullgas was in front entering turn 1. I braked early enough to chose to go either side of him but then his car lagged jumping out at me for a second. I just kind of froze when it happened and headed straight for him smacking him in the back.

And there was another driver.. I can't remember who but again in turn 1 we touched. I closed up and was going to stay behind but then he hung out wide and I thought he was waiting for me so I ducked under and we hit wheel to wheel on the apex. Just one of those things.

And I remember one lap I made what I thought was a brilliant if cheeky pass at rivage, slipped up the inside when the car in front drifted wide but then he came back down and hit me.. :( I thought I was lapping him and if so (my timing was screwed up, maybe I it was for position?..) he really should have just relented.

Another pass on a lapped car around near turn 16 on that really fast section almost ended in total disaster. I am not sure if I confused him or if he really was trying to squeeze me off the track, but really if you are being lapped, pick a side and don't fight it. We bumped wheels and I had two wheels on the grass at top speed.

Anyway it was still fun. Strategy pays in this series, that is a nice change. Though passing is hard. If you are on softs with max downforce and you come up on someone running less downforce and RH its almost impossible. You fly at them in the braking zones like bullets as if to ram them. If you back off trying to be safe you can lose large chunks of time.

That was the one at rivage. I'd love to see a replay. Those who have the replay, can you confirm if at that stage I was lapping him?

I thought that was a good aggressive pass. Maybe from his point of view I just came out of nowhere though..?

Hey ag,

We will start Qualifications at 8:30 pm EST. Greasy will still open the room at 8pm EST so we can run some warmup laps prior qualifications. We had issues with the game loading so we all must understand that sometimes no matter what we plan will not go to plan ...it's just the sad reality we have to put up with due to the many bugs that affect this GT series game.

Dbn26 did send a PSN message to me stating he had the flu and could not make the race but I missed it and did not see it until the end of the race.
