attempting to break 8 sec 400m with skyline

Yeah, I can see that TCS is set to 1. Mustang-man from what I have heard, only uses TCS = 0

I've been trying to figure out the technique for getting a good start with TCS 0. I'm using a duel-shock, Do you think I should change setup for acceleration with the joy-stick, or should I keep trying with the x-button?

It must be a reeeally special technique using the joystick. I seem to be getting better results jabbing the x-button.

But anyway, I can't seem to make your settings do anything for me. I'm sure it's the starting technique but with my settings I'm doing constant 9.059 and occasionally 58 or 57 using the x-button. I have the TCS set to 1 though. That's ok for me, but it's no record breaker. With your settings I've been lucky to get 9.190. What gives? What am I doing wrong with your settings. Or is it because I'm using PAL? I'm running automatic shift. I can't seem to get enough shifting precision with manual and I loose time. But with the automatic and your settings I'm getting engine overrun at the end of first gear. My settngs aren't doing that because I have a very long first.

My gear settings now are:
1 3.078
2 2.418
3 1.889
4 1.528
5 1.248
6 1.013
Diff 2.500

Everything else is the same as you are using.

But in any case, it looks like the Skyline R34 is never going to break into 8.xxx. But I do love the challenge

I think mine did 396 but that was in drag setup. Maybe I'll try that a little later, but I am almost completely sure it doesn't belong in this thread.

i need tutoring on the 400m, i have a ctr2, 8hundred something hp and itl run 9.4, torque 30/60 accel 40/60 decel 2020, but i cant turn, i wanna be able to turn....and i also dont get the point in putting ASM and TCS to pracitcally 0...pm me or just post here, or fone, i think fones easier

CTR2 is 4wd. Too much internal friction. 2wd is better. Setting TCS to 0 or 1 reduces the computers damping of the applied power from the standard setting, but allows the tires to spin easily. Set initial gear (1st, or 2nd if using manual gears) ratio fairly high to reduce spin.

Have fun trying.Don't get frustrated.:banghead:

so i should use a differen car, like aViper Concept, i added a couple of parts to get it to 900hp, but i get lost wen it comes to the settings, which made it run slower, be4 it would REALY go fast....

The best for a non-race car is the RUF RGT. It will do low 8.9xx if you really work on it.

For the 400m manual gearbox is good if you start in second gear. With the automatic, set the diff ratio to a high number, set the level then set the diff ratio to a low number. Close ratios are best. Play around with the ratios to get better times. Change one thing at a time and see what happens. If it gets better, try a little more. If it's worse, try going the other way. Don't be discouraged if it takes a few days to get the feel of adjusting ratios. Expect a week or two to get really good times.

Happy motoring.:P

I SAY: What are you talking about?!?!?! the cars DON'T get broken in... (what are you smokin')

Prize cars do not get broken in, but cars bought from the dealerships DO break in. They do not reach their peak (after oil change) hp until about 190 miles. They'll lose hp with use after that, but for a few hundred miles an oil change will restore peak power. Further miles result in power loss which can not be completely fixed by an oil change. And since this is a 400m thread, we're mostly smokin Super Softs.

1 3.078
2 2.418
3 1.889
4 1.528
5 1.248
6 1.013
Diff 2.500

Suspension full stiff
full height
Softest tires
Shocks and stabilizers I think don't matter
NO VCD!!!
tcs at 1
downforce 0

These gear settings are the equivelant of starting in second gear, but I use automatic shift. They are obtained by setting the diff to something high, like 4.5 then using auto settings at about 20, then setting the diff to 2.5

Donn

I haven't run any 400m in ages, but I would imagine that if you set the VCD to 50% you'd have all four wheels pulling equally, for less wheel spin.
Theoretically, you should be able to lower your times that way.

For maximum acceleration at the line you need to have the torque bias (VCD) match the dynamic traction balance at launch.

Dynamic traction balance depends on dynamic weight distribution and front vs. rear contact patch area ratios (assuming equal front and rear compounds). Contact patch area ratio depends on tire widths (assuming no camber and roughly equal diameter tires). Dynamic weight distribution depends on center of gravity height, the longitudinal distance between center of gravity and front axle, the longitudinal distance between center of gravity and rear axle, and the rate of acceleration (which varies during launch).

As you can see, many variables are involved  , and it's often easier to test and tune, rather than calculate the optimum front/rear torque bias.

automatics are okay but you gotta remember to hold the gear change button to go past where the automatic would normally change gear.

but then you might as well use manual.

Well i'm down to 0:09.005 (i will get a pic later today hopefully) and have not given up yet. 1072 hp.

TCS just slows you down so i have it removed on every single car in my garage.

And i use a very gentle movement of the right analogue stick. (years of practice ;) )

've got 9.122 with my skyline i think, i tried these gear settings which were posted earlier...

GEARS
1: 4.839
2: 3.145
3: 2.248
4: 1.189
5: 1.414
6: 1.159
F: 2.580
A: 37

...but i don't get into 6th gear. I usually start in 2nd gear but i tried it in 1st and i still dnt get in2 6th. I was on 9.3 sumthin but i changed the way i started and got down to 9.122.
Im not sure whether getting in2 6th is going to help though...

So far, I have only been able to get 9.092...:( ....Just curious, but at what rpm do you guys launch at? Been tryin to launch at 4600rpm but its nearly impossible to get the needle right on it in a matter of 4 seconds...

Yea so when I stumbled on to this forum I thought you guys on it were the biggest bunch of losers in the world. Having said that I was reading different threads for about four hours while running back and forth to my PS2. Who is the loser now, lol. The best I can hit is 9.131, I launched in second gear at about 7 grand, and shifted at about 8,400. I don't know if its possible to kiss 8's with the r34 but if anyone does I would love to see it. At this point I would be happy to hit 9 flat, I see some of you already have so I'll keep trying.

About the best I can get with a non analogue controller. Manual gears and 2nd gear launch. Hopefully when I get a new controller I can get it down a bit more.
